Well positioned even with a close loss?

If Clemson and TCU run the table, a 1 loss SEC team is in trouble. I expect the Big 10 to send UM or OSU, and the Pac-X has no chance That leaves TCU and Clemson with shots. If either gets 1 loss, they're done, but undefeated puts them in easily.
I’ll bet Notre Dame surprises Clemson and K-State slips up somewhere. They’re winning games like we did in ‘16. That’ll catch up to them.

The SEC championships guarantees someone will lose. That's what the OP was saying. If we lost by 3 points to GA, and they beat Bama, we are a lock over Clemson, TCU, etc. The other conferences won't like it, but we are the most popular team in the country now among non-committed fans. The game this weekend will be the biggest regular season in five years from a ratings perspective. Every network and every bowl wants us. Hard to believe after being the pariah of the FBS for a decade.

I do not believe that.

Over the final several games Tennessee will be playing weaker to really weak teams……their SOS is great but will go down.

TCU will play a Baylor and Texas and maybe. K-ST in the championship game. If they go undefeated they will make the playoff…..no doubt. They will probably be 5th or so this week……it will only get better.

Clemson…….as much folks think they don’t belong have beaten 3 “currently” ranked teams. If they go undefeated and play say a 1 loss UNC team in the championship game they are in…….regardless.

These AP rankings we keep seeing mean nothing. TCU and Clemson will definitely work into the top 4 when an SEC & B-10 lose…….if not before.

A 1 loss conference champion…..sure but not an undefeated b-12 or ACC champion.

Clemson is not a threat they will get boatraced @NotreDame this weekend. They barely beat Syracuse at home . ND just waxed Syracuse by 20. TCU is the one that’s living on the edge winning every close game so far . But they still have to beat Texas, possibly Kansas State in the title game for a second time . First they have to get by TexasTech in Lubbock. Texas tech did throttle Texas earlier this year, granted that was without Ewers.

Don't need this BVS BS ahead of time.

Worry when there's something to worry about. Right now there ain't.

Yes. Georgia would probably be well-positioned even with a close loss to the Vols, but that isn't going to happen. WGWTFA.

I sincerely want the Vols to win out with everything in me. This has been so long in coming, however, say Tennessee loses a close game in Athens and then it's Georgia/Alabama in the SEC Championship - Georgia knocks out Alabama and we enter the playoff as the second SEC team. Alabama is our nemesis either way. In summary, I think the Vols could reach the playoff even with a loss next week and NO ONE will want to play the Vols in the playoffs, that's for sure.
It should be possible but I read today on some websites that it is unlikely if UT loses to Georgia even if Georgia when’s the Sec championship. It’s all Politics. Clemson, and one loss Michigan or Ohio State , Alabama,Georgia or even an undefeated TCU could get in over UT.

It will be interesting to see where we are ranked by the CFP committee going into championship weekend if we have one loss.

Bottom line? Win and you're pretty much guaranteed a spot in the playoffs whether you win the SECCG or not. If you don't you'll need help to even get in (not good). AND. Win next week and Hendon is likely the Heisman winner....but lose Shroud (sp?) will be from Ohio State. It's that binary....because politics works that way. The game this week isn't normal....there's a ton of accolades on the table.
