We're 7-1 despite having played only 1 complete game all year...

Nico is still upright because they haven't ran him that much. I think going forward he needs to run a little more. Pull that ball one or two more times to make teams respect that a little more. It's been there a lot and he's elected to get rid of the ball. I think they need to simplfy things a little more for him when they get inside the 20 to keep it fast. Although teams start laying on the ground when they go fast. It's annoying.
So, you're ok with our backup QB situation?

If you just look at our games against Power Four competition, we've really only played our A game against one team (NC State). Against every other opponent it's either been our C game or worse. Even our biggest win of the season against Alabama shouldn't have been as close as it was if we don't shoot ourselves in the foot.

Now there are two ways to read this situation. Either we're a flawed team that has been winning despite it's flaws OR we're a super talented team that has underperformed. I believe it's the latter. And not just for wishful thinking. If we were a flawed team we would be struggling offensively with the same things every week. But that's not been the case. Every week it's been a different position group messing up. One week it's Nico struggling with accuracy. Next week it's the receivers dropping easy passes. Another week it's the o-line struggling with pass protection. Then it's our field goal kicker missing easy kicks. It's seems like a different problem each week. This is actually a good sign. It means our offensive struggles are not the result of a deeper structural flaw that can only be addressed in the off-season. We're actually solving our issues from the week before. It's just that new problems arise randomly.

At some point we're gonna stop shooting ourselves in the foot and play a complete game up to our potential. When we do that watch out. Cause it means we can beat anyone. I wouldn't be surprised if we have our best offensive performance since the start of SEC play over the next two weeks.

Without our defense, we’d probably be 4-4. This team is one of the most undisciplined Tennessee football teams I’ve ever seen. Running game remains the highlight of our offense, which is a tribute to our offensive line, despite its continuing weakness in pass protection. And we have to rebuild our OL almost from scratch next season. Our tight ends are our best receivers. Eight games in and our offense remains impotent in the first half. We come out cold every game. We have been outcoached a few games and overcome it. This is a decent team, yes, but I have yet to see consistent championship football for four quarters. Maybe we will see that in Athens because championship football is all that matters to me as a fan. We not only have to win the big games like AL and GA, we have to win all of them. That is what champions do.

No way to know, especially if our offense had executed better in SEC play like we did in 2022. This defense is much better than our '22 defense. Offense might be gelling JIT. We're in the playoffs if we finish 11-1, OR 10-2. Our likelihood of making it if we finish 3-1. There are two elimination match-ups this week in the SEC! The losers of LSU-Alabama and Ole Miss-Georgia are eliminated from the playoffs

lol. Wow what a stretch to say our offense should look great against MSU. They are literally the worst defensive team in the SEC. And against UGA? lol. Our offense will like like it has every year we have played them, pedestrian. Our WRs are mediocre at best. Nico is average. Our offensive play calling is borderline terrible.

We are a flawed team. Our first half offensive woes proves that. You said Arkansas would be an easy win and that we easily win out. We barely beat a depleted UK team who is literally the worst offensive team in the SEC. Hopefully our defense is getting worn out. They are basically the only reason we have the wins we do.
Serious question: are you a Tennessee fan or just on here to stir things up? The negativity is relentless, then you say you hope our defense is getting worn out? I actually agree with some of what you say; we look like a mediocre offense a majority of the time. But it's not total gloom and doom. Are you really hoping our defense wears down, or was that a typo?

Die hard Vol fan since 1985. Season ticket holder since 2000. I hope our defense DOESNT get worn down. Guess it was a typo. I am frustrated with this offense. We can’t keep banking on playing one half of football offensively.

Gotcha. I agree, it's been horribly frustrating at times. I was losing my mind in the first half vs Kentucky when we kept figuring out every way imaginable to keep from scoring. But, we are 7-1, we have an elite defense and rb, and I think we're getting close offensively. I know it's getting late, but I think there's a realistic chance to make the playoff. Considering where we've been the last decade plus, all in all, it's not too bad.

So true….we have been lucky with a young QB and tough injuries like LB Pili who was a huge leader and solid tackler. Just find a way to win three more regular season and maybe post season games.

Yet again you show how little you actually know about the game. UF is a bad football team and we barely beat them in OT. Had Mertz not gotten hurt, we probably lose to them yet again. You cannot keep being a second half team only. When you play good teams, that gets you beat.
Pump the brakes big guy. I know it D4H we are talking to here but Florida has actually turned their season around a little. Not necessarily in the win column but they are playing teams a lot closer. By your reasoning, Georgia is struggling and flawed badly because they beat a Florida team with their 3rd string qb. I’ll agree that we have to find our offense and get the ball rolling to be able to beat Georgia. Our defense is really good. That’s what wins you big games. Offense comes along any little bit and it’ll be a headache for opponents to game plan for.

I'd say several teams can say that.

I was literally the only person not panicking after the loss to Arkansas. I predicted we would beat Florida and Alabama while the rest of yall predicted we wouldn't because how could we beat Alabama after losing to Arkansas. Not really a kiss of death if you ask me. More like I'm our good luck charm this season because everything I predicted is coming true.
Now, now, D4H, maybe reign it in a bit. I assure you that you're not Hosea, Joel, Amos, or Obadiah, nor Jonah for that matter.

No they only needed a 3rd string QB from Yale.

Tennessee is playing like Secretariat. Georgia will be the Belmont stakes and we are going to make Kirby look like Sham.

Optimistic... Sure. But I've never seen the Vols win games like they have been. This just feels like it's shaping up to be something special.

I’m afraid you’re the one that shows your lack of knowledge of the game. With one simple statement you said earlier about our play calling being horrible. Crazy. 300+ yards in the first half. Penalties, TOs, dropped passes and missed field goals are the only reason we didn’t come away with points. Alabama game was the same story. Self inflicted. But there were sure as hell opportunities to make plays given by our coaches. You’re lost.

How am I lost? The fact is we didn’t come away with points. And tell me, how many games this year have we been a complete team for all 4 quarters? I will wait. And as I alluded to, the UF game? It took us to OT to barely beat them with their backup QB. The Alabama game was the same. First half we were not very good offensively. For some reason you have a hard time with actual facts.

We have had an EXECUTION problem. Not a play calling problem. We have had opportunities to score. That's not on the play calling. Pretty simple, but important distinction. You can be as negative as you want, i truly don't care, but i won't allow you to spew nonsense.

Then again, we also barely beat them in 2022 when we had a playoff team if it weren't for those damn dirty cocks.

Agree, though: need at least a semblance of production and scoring in the first half. We will not go to Athens and stand a chance if we get blanked in the first two quarters.
