Stop using wisdom on here... I understand the age thing, I really do, but Tennessee isn't a 3 or 4 year rebuilding job. The right coach starts winning immediately. Eight years out of someone like him would be better than another experiment. He's a great recruiter too. Did everybody think he was going to bring in McDonald's AA's at Chattanooga. He dominated while there.
At NC State he has one McDonald's AA on the way. He won ACC coach of the year in 2017 which NC state had never won in their 43-year history. He's one of 4 finalists for the Naismith Coach of the year this year. He's one of the few coaches that to me can do more with less. He beat Holly Warlick in her coaching debut, he's beaten McGraw and Walz too.
I of course would have Walz as my top choice but if that's something Tennessee can't pull off I believe Wes should certainly get a look along with some of the others mentioned.
Coach K is 72
Tom Izzo is 64
Roy William's is 68
Geno Auriemma is 65
Muffet McGraw is 63
Nick Saban is 67
No, Walz is 330-99 for .769, all at a power 5 school. The vast majority of Moore's wins have come at mid-major Chattanooga and lower level colleges, which is a completely different animal. The more relevant numbers come from his time at NC State which is 139-56 (.713), still good but a bit more modest. In his six years there he has never finished higher than 3rd in the ACC and never past the Sweet 16. Walz has three Final Fours (four if he wins tomorrow) including two National Runner-up's to UConn. Walz has proven he can build up and maintain a national power, and has consistently recruited at a high level. Moore has not. Walz, in addition to being more accomplished, is also significantly younger.
It isn't hard to decide who is the better fit at Tennessee. It isn't even close...
Kara would absolutely have to give up her other jobs and for sure the trustee! She is happy where she is from all I can tell!If Kara is hired, I may have to quit my job and become a full-time Lady Vol game junkie, making attending every home AND road game my new vocation and RFL.
Even with no bigtime coaching experience, I am more certain that she’d turn the program around in short order than I have been of anything else ever.
And go ahead and feel free to laugh at me for expressing this opinion. It’s mine and there’s nothing you can do about it! *stomping my feet with clenched fists and a furrowed brow* lol
Really, I just want Phil to do a comprehensive search and to reach out to others who are more knowledgable — someone like Lawson, for example — for solid advice about who would or wouldn’t be be a good fit for Tennessee. Phil has always been a fan of women’s basketball, but I doubt that he personally knows many of the coaches who might be candidates. I hope he seeks wise, hopefully unbiased, counsel.
Stll love Hammon, too. While Moore is a fine man and coach, I’d kinda like to see Phil make a “sexier” choice. Not sexy as in “physically attractive,” but sexy as in the type of coach that today’s social media-loving young people would think is kinda cool and famous and possibly even be not too old or have anything about them that their friends could make fun of. It certainly wouldn’t HURT recruiting to have someone like Kara or Becky Hammon at the helm!
Take your time, Phil! We’re impatient, but we’ll wait as long as we need to for you to land the right coach!
P.S. Kellie’s team sure did give Stanford a heckuva game, didn’t they?

Nothing about wes moore seems exciting to me.

Good points but Hammon will not be contacted. If Kara had really wanted to get into the pain of full time coaching I am sure she would be doing that now. The trustee job from best I remember is not a high paying job but a prestigious one! Her others salary wise I could not guess. And no she has not had a chance like the one we are talking about but still would be a huge sacrifice. Yes this is the ultimate job in womens basketball for sure for anyone and that is why I would reserve whether Walz is considered. If he made the call to Phil rather than the other way around he would have to tell me No and make it public. If he wins it all then may be harder for him to leave. Now all this is JMHO as always!!But has she ever had an opportunity like this one to consider? In all seriousness, if she has any interest in coaching — and her recent stint as a two-time Gold Medal-winning coach for women’s 3x3 USA Basketball indicates that she does — then coaching the Lady Vols is literally the ultimate job in women’s athletics. Plus, it will likely pay better than all her other jobs combined.
Same with Hammon, who earns, I believe, less than half as an NBA assistant as Holly was paid last year. Tennessee’s projected salary would be a huge raise for Becky.
