Rucker is on 104.5 FM in Nashville right now, on the Midday 180.

He said that unless he's being lied to, there's no chance Pearl will be hired if Martin is fired after this season. He said if we brought him back, the NCAA would be all over the UT program and UT doesn't want that.

He also said those that say it's just about a BBQ are missing the point; that it goes beyond that. He said Pearl probably burned bridges with the whole "conspiracy" to get people to lie to cover it up, and said that it wasn't just to the NCAA but also to UT. He then said he doesn't know too many people who tried to embarrass their bosses getting a second chance.

Having said all that, he said he'll never say never and didn't rule out that Pearl could be the coach again in the future, but that it won't happen next year.

Just passing along. Proceed to rip him a new one :)

Anyone who really believes Pearl will be back should be taken out to the woods, hit in the head w a rubber mallet and left.

Pearl is probably not an option, however Rucker doesnt know Jack

The more I think about it, I really wish I would have gotten into "sports journalism". Especially in this age of the internet and social media.

I mean how many of these guys make a good living writing/talking/tweeting about things that most of the time they are dead wrong about? And there is usually very little consequence for being wrong.

That or take the Hyams route and just be a week late on everything.

This is what I have been saying the whole time. Real world, people. You don't give a guy a second chance who does that to your organization. Now, please don't take this as me not liking the man. I loved UT basketball when Bruce was here, and I was pissed when he was fired. At the time, I think our school could have done more to protect him. If it was so egregious, then why did they let him have that September (I think) press conference and then let him coach the ENTIRE year? They could have nipped it quickly.

All that said, when the decision is made, it's made, and you don't bring him back. No logical leader would ever do it, and I think that is pretty simple to understand.

I seriously doubt we would ever get Pearl back, but I still think it would be a big win for Tennessee basketball if he did. We would win more, the fans would go absolutely nuts, and it would create a buzz for recruiting. He's also sitting in our back yard, and given his NCAA troubles, we might could get him for cheap.

The "buzz" around a new hire is significant by the way. Saban wasn't the end-all-be-all of coaches when he initially came to Bama, but there was such a buzz about the move and how it happened. I think this was a catalyst for recruiting to go through the roof. Maybe on a smaller scale, I could see Pearl returning creating a similar buzz.

Proceed to call me a stupid idiot for my opinion.

Not to split hairs with you because I agree with the thought UT will not rehire BP. But I am in the mortgage business and also have friends in the car business. In those lines of work it is not nearly as uncommon for someone to embarass their boss or crap on the company and still come back there to work.

If the person is good at their job and can make them $$$ it outweighs common sense sometimes. tifwiw

But when the person who was hit in the head with the rubber mallet falls and hits the ground, does it make a sound?

Discuss....

Happened at my company too.

Money talks, and Bruce would bring it in by the truckloads.

Rucker's source is Climer and Climer's source is John Pennington who is quoting Jimmy Hyams who he overheard discussing the matter with Mike Strange.

And happens after worse things than getting caught in multiple lies and violating company policies(aka bumping into a recruit). hahaha

You may have better stories than me. :)

I have no doubt it happens. But, in a well-run company, it isn't happening. It also depends on the act that is committed. If you don't burn bridges and at least take your lumps, then it is a possibility. But, you absolutely cannot burn bridges and criticize and then expect to come back to the same place. There are people that would not support him- like it or not. An organization needs unity- not division.

Don't underestimate how much energy it takes to sit around making up complete garbage to talk about.

I am not sure there is a good comparison with recruiting violations and lying to the NCAA. Basically, he got the school put on probation, cost them significant money in legal fees, and put the roster back a year.

Lying to a boss is not the same- basically no ramifications. If some organization rehired someone who stole or embezzled money, then some manager needs their head examined. What does that do to the other employees?
