We've talked about this on another thread. The NCAA doesn't have the resources to be all over him. They operate on a pretty strict budget and they are monitoring all the institutions. What they would do is just sit and wait and then pounce if it were significant enough. The lie Rucker is talking about is when Pearl and Jones went to the high school after we did self sanctions and they had contact with the recruit at the school. Also, there was one other thing too that I don't recall but it was another minor thing that Pearl's staff did. Therefore the administration does not trust Pearl. If something significant happened after they re-hired him it would probably mean their jobs too. They are not going to take the risk. They're thinking if he couldn't control himself just after it all happened and so much at stake why would he be able to control himself now and put everybody at risk? I would love to have Pearl back. But, the odds are infinitesimally small.
P.S.-At another institution they could take the risk because the history is with Pearl and not them.
The other incident was giving too many tickets to a player already on the roster (Brian Williams IIRC).
As for another institution; you can bet the NCAA won't take it easy on them if Pearl slips up under their watch. They are hiring him with full knowledge of his history, and assuming all the risk. It's precisely the reason only one head coach in history with a show-cause penalty has ever gotten another head coaching job. No one wants to assume the risk that comes with that kind of coach. Pearl's past success makes him a little more attractive, but I'll be surprised if he gets anything near a prime job off the bat. His high profile will make his case interesting. Same for Jim Tressel when his expires.
