West Virginia's Bob Huggins booked on DUI charge in Pittsburgh

Apparently he's already resigned. I hate these stories of guys I admired and rooted for messing up their lives to this extent. Kevin Spacey was an actor I really liked....now he's done basically...but let's not act like any of us are perfect. Everybody deserves 2nd chance. I get this WAS his 2nd chance so...it's just a sad situation.

As the article mentions, this would be his 2nd offense, if convicted. I don't know what the penalty for a 2nd DUI conviction in Pennsylvania is, but in Tennessee that comes with a mandatory minimum of 45 days in the pokey.
If you have a good lawyer and enough money they just plead it back to a 1st offense. Huggins won’t be in the pokey…

Probably right.
Lots of lawyers that DUI law is all they do, and business is good. I understand it is extremely lucrative.

West Virginia gave him a long leash ... evident by how they retained him after the incident on the radio. His career is probably over but you never know ... I didn't think Pitino would ever get another chance either. If you can win ... there is always another chance, it seems.

Steve Oberman of Knoxville is actually one of the best DUI defense specialists in the country. He co-founded the National College of DUI Defense. He has argued cases before the Tennessee Supreme Court. He is filthy rich.

Has nothing to do with being perfect. It has everything to do with making the right choice which he didn’t. He has enough money to buy a way home safe.

Save me the I guess you’ve never made a poor decision speech

I had a brother who served 6 months years ago for several DUI’s. Without question…driving impaired is among the stupidest, self-consumed, wreck less, immature acts a person can commit. Zero justification…. EVER! I believe in redemption and grace BUT the consequences for driving impaired should be harsh, long, and humiliating!

Eh ... Not all DUI's are the same.

There is a difference in recklessness between being stopped at a checkpoint with a .08 BAC, and a previously clean record vs blowing through the red light of a 4 way intersection at 40 mph and causing an accident with a .25 BAC, and 2 prior DUI convictions.

They should be handled on a case-by-case basis, and just like everything else, that is how our system of justice handles DUI arrests.

As much information and education we have today…anyone under any influence of a drug (alcohol being the worst) effecting their cognitive abilities behind a wheel should be dealt with severely. We’ll just agree to disagree.

Alcohol being the worst?

You honestly think driving under the influence of alcohol is riskier than driving under the influence of a hallucinogenic drug such as Ecstasy?

To be clear, I'm not defending drunk driving here.

CLEARLY I meant the most abused! Alcohol destroys more families and people than any other thing in society. I’m living proof of it. Have a great day!

I actually think this is the backwards way of looking at things. I'm going to assume you're not counting Spacey's nonsense in as a "mistake", he's an absolute monster who harmed children.

But DUI most certainly doesn't qualify as "just a mistake" either. It's never been excusable, but it's especially not these days. Everyone has a cell phone that can not only order them a lyft or uber ride home, but can contact any family member or friend they wish to come pick them up.

You don't need to be perfect to avoid risking innocent people's lives in an age where there's a billion different avenues to avoid said risk.

People out there doing 10+ years or more for weed and we let tards like Huggins and countless other DUI offenders just walk with what might as well be attempted murder.

I agree with everything you said here ... up until this last part, that I put in bold. That's over the top.

Not being perfect is one thing like saying something stupid in the heat of the moment.

Driving drunk or sexual assault in Spacey’s case is completely different. Those aren’t mistakes, those are crimes.

I'm sorry, but based on a friend of mine currently being prosecuted for a 2nd DUI offense in Knox County ... when his 1st DUI conviction was in May of 2010, that is not accurate.
Unfortunately I've had 4 DUIs total. Two 1sts and two second offenses. The charges never leave your record, and they can never be expunged. And I don't know the exact number of years it takes due to TN DUI laws constantly changing, but if you get charged with a 1st offense and go so many years inbetween that and the next offense, then you'll be charged with a 1st offense again. But if the appropriate amount of years hasn't been passed, then you'll be charged with a second offense. That's how I have 2 1st offense and 2 2nd offense DUIs on my record. I got a 1st offense in 2008, 2nd offense in 2012. Another 1st offense in 2018, and another 2nd offense in 2019.

You won't get any lecture from me. I have been arrested in Knox County twice for DUI. Convicted once.

First offense was in 2005. I was stopped at a checkpoint after the Super Bowl between the Eagles and Patriots. I only blew a .091, but since I didn't know any better at the time, I hired a cheap lawyer, who didn't even try to win the case. My 2nd arrest was in 2009. I hired Steve Oberman that time, but had to pay him $15,000. He had the case dismissed during my first court appearance. The cop had made some mistakes during the field sobriety test, and he got it thrown out as evidence. The prosecution didn't have a case without it.

I'm going to assume you meant .091 there.

Otherwise, good heavens.

Attempted vehicular homicide perhaps…

Just watched a local news story on a 19 year-old kid and his father killed by a drunk driver. They were in town for freshman orientation at UCF.

The idiot drunk driver had multiple DUIs.
