West Virginia's Bob Huggins booked on DUI charge in Pittsburgh

This article includes the back and forth on these letters:

Bob Huggins releases statement, says WVU lied about his resignation

Huggs is figuring if he sues a whole bunch of people at the Univ as well as the school, he can spook them into an out of court settlement. I hope they call his bluff and countersue

The simple reality of things is that if what Huggins alleges is in his contract is actually there-WVU could be in a position I would not want to be in.

Quite frankly, their AD is probably going to start getting quite a bit of heat anyway just because of WVUs general performance of late.

I don't see that the reality of things supports Huggs position. All indications are that he did retire. Now he has new lawyers. His previous lawyer is silent. It appears that his team was told that he resigned. Huggs nor his reps said until now that he did not resign. We didn't they say "whoa" when the public announcement was made by W Va? Why did Huggs clean out his office? Sure seems like a frivolous money grab to me.

I think he did resign but he "forgot" to negotiate his terms. He probably assumed he'd still he his money but then he missed a paycheck and someone reminded him that when you resign they don't have to pay you

If his contract required a signed statement of resignation/retirement and that was never done-it's a bad look for all involved.

Wv's lawyers should have been all over this. Hell, I'm sure they were going through his contract word for word not long ago looking for a way to fire him lol.

Granted, I dunno the whole backstory but apparently this has been simmering for a while. Ultimately, I agree it looks bad for Huggins but it also looks very bad for the university.

West Virginia does not want this story continuing when the season tips off in October.

Huggins once wanted the Tennessee job but Tennessee had no interest in hiring him.

Have you read the entire scenario? Huggins original attorney contacted WV and asked if they would accept an email from Huggins’ wife’s account in lieu of the signed document the contract required. WV said yes. It was sent. He retired. Told team he retried. Cleaned out his desk. He had no issues until some new attorney said hey we can try and make a bunch of money if we try and extort WV. WV is calling their bluff.

W Va says that "required" did not appear in his contract. They said the words "sufficient" were used:

The Employment Agreement notice provision provides: “Any and all noticesrequired or permitted to be given under this Agreement

will be sufficient

if furnished in writingand sent by registered or certified mail to the other party . . . .” (emphasis added). The plain textof this notice provision merely indicates that notices provided in writing and sent by registered orcertified mail

will be sufficient

. The language does not say that other notices are void,

i.e.,

thelanguage does not say: “All parties must provide notice under this Agreement in a writing sent byregistered or certified mail to the other party and any notice not provided in such manner is void.”

They go on to say that a contract can be amended if both parties agree to it and that Huggins' attorney did agree to handling this through his wife's email.

I'm not arguing with you man.

I just said the way it was done was sloppy and as a result WVU is now in a bad spot.

If all you can do right then at that moment is an email fine, but get a signed statement to put a nice little bow on things and avoid these messes.
