Westbrook Gone

What things does EW do that no other guard in LV history ever did? Where are you seeing this amazing ability?

Her size, her court vision, and her instincts are above any LV point guard at this stage of her career. Unfortunately she often tries to do too much, and received absolutely no help or development from her coaches...

I would add that the development around her seems to be stagnant as well. Players not playing up to their potential. Some players showing up one game, and the next they are no where to be found. I think she feels this which in turn causes her to do too much.

You know what? Most of you just dont get it and I understand. Fans. But here is what I know. I hate to lose and we are losing. We lost to freaking Vanderbilt. And we are gonna end up going cheap and/or hire a mid major coach, or a coach that has 0 experience? And I get taken to task for saying the search so far is a cluster? Some of you and your choices for coaches make anyone that remotely know the landscape of the game today cringe in unbelief that some of the things that has been said on here. I dont even know what to say.

I say there will be plenty of time to gripe about the hire after it is made. Hell, aside from Barnes falling into our laps when Tyndall blew apart, when was the last time a coaching search at Tennessee NOT a cluster ****? At least to how the fans perceive it?

I guess you'll be saying the same thing in 2023 or 2024 when it's time to look for another Tennessee women's head basketball coach;)

Your replies usually make sense to me. This one doesn't. My point was that with the new AD in town, looks like we're gonna have to get used to the fact that they take more time than we like in doing their due diligence. What are you saying? Due diligence means we'll automatically make a bad hire that doesn't last long?

I think since Tennessee will probably be hiring a men's basketball coach also that the next women's head basketball coach will be Kellie Jolly Harper or Kara Lawson.

Gotcha. I see how the men's job opening would certainly affect the LV hire, but I'm pretty sure UCLA would have to pay us a few mill to get him so maybe that would even things out a bit. I firmly believe our best chance to get more banners is in the LV program, so maybe that might factor in for Fulmer.

Thinking through the math, if Barnes leaves and we get his 5 million buyout money, then we hire someone like Forbes and only have to pay a mill or so to get him out of his contract, then it's possible the men's job really could help across the board.

I think more and more that the next LadyVols head coach will wind up being Kellie Jolly Harper. Kara Lawson is smart and knows basketball but Kellie Jolly Harper has a lot more coaching experience that she does.

I hope Tennessee will shock the nation and rehire Bruce Pearl;)

You’re right about the experience, of course, but does KJH have the same “it factor” that Kara has?

I believe either person could handle the job and do it well, but as far as who would be the one more likely to cause young ears to perk up when they hear the name of the person hired? Probably the one who is on TV all the time.

She has an "it factor"
I just watched her R32 game against Alexa's new team Iowa St
I watched it focusing on coaching and mainly focusing on KJH anytime the bench was on camera...My Notes

KJH
Round of 32 (no commercials, just the game)
Missouri State (KJH) v Iowa state (Alexa Middleton)

She lets her team flow uninterrupted if they are going well

She knows her team (I would have called a TO at 5:16 Q2, when the player crossed halfcourt,,but she didn’t and it resulted in made-3)

Her body language on the sidelines is relaxed when it needs to be, confident otherwise

Her husband Jon Harper in served on her coaching staff at Western Carolina, North Carolina State, and now at Missouri State...They work together, not against each other

Offense is patient without being stagnate,,,they move to get the shot they want

My only coaching critique:
In Q3 KJ with an 11 pt lead has the entire starting lineup on the bench ,,You could sense a momentum change at 3:50 Q3,,KJ has all 4 TO’s..at 3:20 she re-inserts the starters on a shotclock violation (This should have been done on a time out,,,sending them in like this is desperation-subbing,,,they go in with no instruction and against a full momentum by the other team),,,at 2:46 no benefit from the subs definitely a timeout (nope),,,6-0 run, now a 5 pt game,,2:23 8-0 run now a 3 pt game,,time out 2:21 to go Q3

Working on it GameTime...I need more inside pull though
My heart, skill and loyalty are there, but my resume is a wildcard, at best.

They need a proven at HC
or maybe not.

Remember who replaced Michael Jordan,,,it was Pete Myers.
Who?
Exactly,,
Chicago knew you had to follow a legend with a sacrificial replacement.

All I got to say is
"baaaa"

Great analysis of the MO State-Iowa St. game above, Coach. Agree with both the positive and negative takeaways and critique.

Thanks for posting that video (we only got to listen to the game). Anyway who watches that and doesn't think that the offense and defense displayed by KH's team wouldn't be an upgrade from what we usually showed this season...well, they just don't know basketball.

Also enjoyed watching Willard's interaction with Jon Harper, showing that he's earning his pay, too. Announcers also noted that Bill Fennelly's son Billy has been his assistant for seven years for those averse to family coaching staffs.

Coach Jumper, here is a radical idea to get you in the door....

Go to a Tux Shop and rent the best looking tux you can afford....Make sure you have the shiny shoes too....Get yourself looking sharp and go to the Athletic Department in your tux and carrying a new basketball....Tell whomever speaks with you that you are a classy guy that can help bring class back to the women's basketball program, which it so richly deserves.....Have your coaching resume in a classy proper presentation folder.....

Even if they don't speak with you at that moment, you will have made a strong first impression, which will most likely get you some form of interview, which is your first goal.....I guarantee you they will be talking about you...Some may think you were a little weird, but others will say "Who is this guy? Let's hear what he has to say"

In sales, (you're selling yourself) presentation is everything....

Well John Adams and that other guy on the podcast could watch and not think KH would be an upgrade. Their contention (which oddly they weakly batted down at the end) was no coach yet even mentioned, including KH, would be an upgrade since their on paper W/L record was not as good as Holly's. Which, if you paid even the slightest attention the last four years, is borderline insane.

KJH might not turn out to be a great coach, but she would never, ever be Holly grade terrible.

already past that mark, GameTime
Been communicating with the AD dept. for a week now
I am in their line of sight

I am sure I am not anything near HC considerations and qualifications,
but I am confident that I could be a key contributor

Coach, really glad to hear this.....You always have good insight into the games.....
The new coach is going to need all the help she can get...I sure hope you are one of her assistants.

I think, with proper coaching, Westbrook would have been and will be somewhere else, an outstanding basketball player. However, I will not miss all those lazy inaccurate passes she made every game. She led the team in turnovers and the team averaged about 20 TO a game. f they had cut those in half, Tennessee would have gone deeper in the tournaments and we may not be lookig for a new coach at this time.

I think Lawson will be the new coach and that Barnes will remain at my beloved Tennessee.
