Westbrook Gone

Did it ever occur to you that because Evina had no direction or offensives sets to run that her turnovers were a direct result of that........She had no choice but to drive and create plays out of nothing..... it’s a very high risk type of play that will result in many turnovers..... I gurantee you that if she had offensive sets to run that actually worked she would be able to make easier and less risky passes that would result in higher assist and lower turnovers......The frustrations of TRYING to do the same concepts that Holly wanted over and over made it inevitable that Evina would start pressing more and more and make silly turnovers......We need Evina and she would be a All American under any other top coach.

Like I said in a previous post where I listed this past season's assists and turnovers for Westbrook; the Assists were because of her superior talent, and the Turnovers were caused by horrible coaching, as well as her teammates not being up to par in handling her passes.;)

Westbrook, who PUBLICLY said to the media that her coach should be fired, along with her mama, should leave the Lady Vols basketball team immediately.

Why would Coach Harper want a player with Westbrook's character flaws (and turnovers) on her basketball team.

It wouldn't surprise me if Coach Harper doesn't talk to her at all

Uh, Westbrook said in response to an overly aggressive reporter, right after the disappointing UCLA loss, that some changes need to be made in the "staff" along with off the court stuff among players.

So, how about stop spreading the falsehood that she publicly called for Holly to be fired?

And what are her character flaws; not liking to lose?; being frustrated over bad coaching?

Harper is smart, she will talk to Evina who is too good of a player to let walk without a reparation effort.

For the record, Evina DID NOT GET HOLLY FIRED and why you keep treating like Holly's Judas is beyond all reason.

If Evina had sad nothing, the team would have still had a losing streak to lowly Alabama; a historic six game losing streak followed by a "no longer historic" 3 game losing streak, coupled with a historic home loss to lowly Vanderbilt, coupled with a losing conference record, coupled with barely making the tournament, coupled with yet another early round exit from the NCAA tourney.

But, yeah, if Evina had not said that there was a problem, Holly would have gotten a big raise and a contract extension because she was taking the program to "new historical" places, right?

She created everything on her own....... yes the assists and turnovers were both her doing but at the direction of her coach........ she’s driving and trying to create something out of nothing ......If Holly had her running sets and screening/moving the defense to open up the floor it would have been completely different.

I agree! Folks just don’t get it. Kids are not enamored with UT anymore. Based on how the coaching search is going I knew it would come down to this. Some folks are so entrenched in tradition and are holding on to the past so much that they don’t care that the program is sinking like the Titanic. I said we would be the next Louisiana Tech on the Summitt last year and all hell broke loose. Seems to be we are headed that way. The kids probably know who the next coach is going to be and if its Kelly, they want no parts of it.

I don’t care how good of a coach someone is, you cannot win big without talent. She will not be able to win in the SEC or against the Notre Dames and Louisvilles with the type of recruits she brought in at Missouri State. Period. You may win a few “feel good” games in the tournament but the Cinderella story is virtually non-existent in the women’s game. Usually the top seeds go to the Final Four. Just sayin...

The LVs really could have made a big run next year with the talent and a REALLY good coach. They are going to turn this job into one that did not require rebuilding into a major project overnight. Smmfh.

I don't totally buy that narrative. There is some truth to it, but the current signees prove that tradition is still important. Jolly was not my first choice, but I do see the reasoning behind hiring her.

If you want a quick upgrade, and flash in the pan, yes, hire the hot name of the day, but if you want long-term stability, then I think Jolly could be the right hire. She has roots here. She was raised in Tennessee. She is a national Coach of the Year, etc. So, there is plenty of reason to believe that she can succeed.

Also, since we didn't break the bank, we might be able to hire the best assistants available. That is always an under-appreciated element in any coaching hire.

Thank you, Holly got Holly fired. Responsibility lies solely with her. I find it frustrating that people are trying to villainize Evina for statements she never even made. The reporters were hounding her with the same question over and over. She honestly showed more restraint than should have been expected of her in that emotional moment.

I know the situations are a little different, but not too long ago it looked like Jauan Jennings might have played his last snap for Tennessee. He had his issues, but a new coach who seems to be a much better leader than his predecessor showed up and gave Jauan a chance. Jauan made the most of that chance and is now looking forward to what could be a big senior season. If Harper decides to give Evina a chance, and Evina chooses to take it, I’ll be rooting for her. That should be all of our attitudes.

We're not hiring the best available assistants. Its being said she's bringing her staff from Missouri State.

Speaking of reading comprehension, most of my comment referred to the quoted post by Franklin Pierce. You're just his/her enabler...

The part directed at you concerned the idea that Harper might not talk to Evina at all. I really don't think KJH will just let a player of that caliber walk without making any contact. And KJH's press conference made it seem that all returners are a priority.

So, are we all clear now or do you need a picture?

Tyler HAS NOT been hired to be an assistant coach. So much for that white privileged stuff. School says he has NOT applied or interviewed for an assistant job,. School says statement was misconstrued when his wife said he would assist her.

Maybe but I would think her husband and possible 1 more but I doubt that anyone else but I know nothing. I would agree if we don't go outside and get a stud recruiter if Reeves is not retained . Cant miss this one either!!

Some one always will throw out the WHITE stuff everytime they disagree!!! LOL

I get the sense from Harper that she will talk to Evina. Harper to me doesn't seem like someone that will bend easily on her expectations. Harper is going to lay out her expectations/demands for Evina as point guard and will be "take it or leave it" type of ordeal. Harper comes across as a no-nonsense type of coach.

In the press conference, Harper said and made mention that her son is sitting with the current players. I wish they would have panned over to see what players showed up. That would be VERY telling. Anybody know if all the current players were present?
The whole team was at the press conference
