Western Kentucky at Vanderbilt, Thursday at 8pm on SECN

Vandy can't even get the headline of their loss correct:

Commodores fall to Western Kentucky, 14-12, in opener

VU's two-point conversation attempt comes up short in final minute

Two-point conversation attempt? Oh, it definitely created some conversations. Mostly laughter, though.

His job is to put the players in a position to make plays, which he did. They just dont, and won't have the horses to be successful. As I said earlier I thought dude called a good game, but it won't matter. Vandy is back to being Vandy.

I don't know. I mean handing off to the fullback up the middle wasn't working but they stuck with it.

The QB keep was roasting them every time, but Vandy pulled a Bajakian and saw that a play was effective so he abandoned it.

That actually would be I-24 east. MTSU gets them for homecoming. I-24 west would be APSU. They might be drooling too.

How pathetic do you have to be, to be an SEC team that is the HOMECOMING for a CUSA team? Even the lower conference teams usually try to schedule a team they are extremely confidant they will beat on homecoming.

That's where you are now Vandy; even CUSA teams think you're a sure Homecoming win.

I just can't believe how far they fell off when Franklin left. I thought they would be close to a .500 team. But they are worse than before. At least the Vandy game will be a gimme game again and we can count on that as a good scrimmage for our players to get ready for the last run of the season.

Seems like their fanbase is really split on Mason now. Some of them are going to defend him as long as the defense doesn't give up 30+ ppg and keep blaming their losses on the players.

But...who is responsible for the players? Oh, that's right--the coaches.

Difference between him and Franklin? Recruiting! Franklin is exciting and brings in the good players. College is all about recruiting. We've been outcoaching Bama since 2009. But they had way better players. We'll see what happens now!! But back on Vandy...recruiting.

This can't be serious.

Franklin stepped into a decent roster. His recruiting was average at best. He wasn't there long enough to have that much of a drop off. He got lucky and came in at the right time, and also left at the right time. He knew last year wouldn't be pretty. Vandy was a stepping stone.

These are Franklin's players. He recruited talent that couldn't out-talent a CUSA team.

Outcoaching Bama for years now? Easy killer. Easy.

Franklin brought in back to back top 30 classes and his last class was on pace for that as well, until he bolted. Mason was still able to salvage enough to keep it as a top 50 class. They have enough talent on paper to beat the likes of CUSA and MAC level teams. Three DC and OC in 3 years and an incompetent HC is showing up in on field results. Franklin was a hell of a motivator as well and guys bought into him. I'm not sure the players feel much different about Mason's abilities than fans do.

Franklin is also assembling a nice 2016 class up in Penn.
