what are you expecting vs. OU?

As far as Worley is concerned, I posted on the other site right after he was recruited/signed that he was not what UT fans were expecting. Got to watch him play HS ball throughout his career. So did SC and Clemson coaches, who passed on him. UT fans read that he was the "National Gatorade POY" and assumed that meant something, in spite of his middling 3 star rating. The Gatorade award is given to a player that demonstrates many things, including excellence in the classroom, community volunteering and on the field performance. It is an award for well rounded players that are great "ambassador" types. It is not awarded to the best player. Spurrier said of Worley after he camped at SC that he would need to improve his ability to make decisions and reads quicker in order to be successful at the next level. Seems spot on.

It was a decent to good throw. It was an amazing catch. Chalk that play's success up to North. And it was the K who won the game, not the QB.

...except good decisions in the pocket are what he's all about.

Well at least Spurrier is 100% aware of Worley's progress now.

Winningest QB in S. Carolina history (Shaw):
-7/21
-161 yards
-1 TD
-1 INT
QBR: 25.8

Guy who apparently wasn't good enough to play for the Gamecocks (Worley):
-19/34
-179
-1 TD
-0 INT
-QBR 52.8
-1 dagger in the heart of S. Carolina's SEC-East title hopes

You do not.
Alright then, Cock, lets do the math.

Start with the running game. If you look at OU's top rushing leaders, 3 of the top 5 of rushers are no longer on the team. The other two are Blake Bell & Trevor Knight. Bell is learning a new position as Knight will take over the reigns at QB, so his production is almost entirely lost. So 4 out of the top rushing leaders are being replaced. Now onto the rest;

2013 OU Rushing Stats
2911 total yards on 559 attempts
%78.5 of the total yards came from players no longer on the team
That's 2288 yards out of the total 2911 yards
79% of the rushing attempts also (446 to 559 attempts)

2013 OU Receiving Stats
2588 yards on 225 recs
%65 of the yards came from players no longer on the team
1700 yards out of 2588 yards
150 recs out of 225 recs (that's 66%)

Coincidentally if you remove Bells stats from the total passing yards, you also get about 1700 yards from the total 2588 total passing yards so the totals remain the same.

2013 OU Total Offensive Yards
2588 passing + 2911 rushing = 5499 yards
divided by
1700 passing + 2288 rushing = 3988 yards
So 4k / 5.5k yards equals about to 72.7% of the total offensive output (in yards) that has to be replaced this season.

I'd say the "nearly 70%" is fairly accurate. :eek:k:

Shaw is collecting a paycheck from the NFL after a record breaking college career, one in which he never even got the benefit of a RS year. The guy threw 24 TD's to 1 Int in 2013. He never lost a home game, ever. SC went 33-6 in his 3 seasons as the starter.

I am sure Worley will prove SOS wrong though. SOS probably loses sleep thinking about missing out on that stud QB.

Apparently some disagree, and his stats would back them up. And his decision making while running the "read option" offense apparently was "interesting".

after seeing what that QB did to bama's defense and the DL did to bama's OL are you expecting a blowout? or do you think you can keep it within 10 or so? maybe pull out a win

I think OU certainly will take UT lightly, but I doubt we have enough to capitalize that into a win. I believe we scare em for 3 quarters, then just can't shut em down.
Lose by 10.

I expect to see a well disciplined machine that is fast, strong and full of young power packed freshman talking the talk and walking the walk. I think we win by 10-13 and OU doesn't know what hit them. The way to turn the corner is to do something no one expects them to do, this will be the first step. You won't see a stadium more quiet as the one in Norman on this night.

The Troll is strong with this post

Being realistic isn't "afraid to win"...bro

You look at that two deep of the two teams competing in this game, don't see a whole lot of difference. We got the talent and the speed and Whoever the QB is will have as many weapons as any other team in the known world.

Experience matters.

See our O and D lines...replacing every starter on both lines doesn't stand out as a positive no matter how you try to spin it.

Almost all of our talent is new (freshman / JUCO) this season - scheme could be very limited to get the new talent on the field.

Young players tend to make mistakes - the learning curve could be painful at times this fall. We will benefit greatly in '15 - '16, but a lineup heavy with true freshman is not historically an asset.

The o and d lines will be better. They are young, doesn't matter,. Plus we are adding highly recruited studs at every level on both sides of the ball. Then there is the legacy factor( which I have addressed in great detail in previous threads). They, coupled with the key players from last year will get 7-8 wins and I don't see why OU can't be one of them. We're gunna get them or bama. Who knows which one.

If OU hadn't beaten Bama in the Sugar Bowl they would not be pre-season top 5, not even close. I'm not buying them as world beaters just yet. I think we are very competitive in this game. We will score some points.

This is a solid analysis.

I expect...
... this thread to be bumped.
... a half empty bottle of scotch
... 4 Tylenol
... some good food
... a trick play or two
... and a reminder to enjoy the good times when they come

Simply put, the outcome hinges on what OU team shows up. If they play us like they played the Hilltoppers early last season, we have a 30-40% chance at the upset. If they come to play, I predict a quarter bottle of scotch left.

Go get'em boys! attack, attack, attack

I certainly am not predicting victory over Oklahoma, but I can see parallels between preseason expectations associated with the 2005 Tennessee team and the 2014 Oklahoma squad. We rode a convincing 38-7 victory over Texas A & M in the 2005 Cotton Bowl into a top five preseason ranking, only to fall flat on our faces and finish 5-6, with one of the most inept offenses in Tennessee history. Conversely, Oklahoma played an exceptional game against Alabama in the Sugar Bowl, but the Crimson Tidy Bowl boys also somnambulated their way through much of that game. I wouldn't be overly shocked to see Oklahoma fail to live up to the high degree of preseason hype surrounding them this year.

I'm going to be a homer. I expect stoops to poop the bed like he did vs. Texas last year. Big game Bob is known for big time choke jobs. I think we'll take advantage.

Expecting? Another embarrassing OOC loss to a team that should've never been scheduled.
