What are you listening to?

A guy in my dorm at Duke waaaay back when was graced with the last name of Fluck. There wasn't much of anything he could do about that.
ouch. I had an Army friend in AIT and my first unit named Buchan. People would ask him how to pronounce his name and without hesitation he'd answer: "Buckin, like F*ckin, but Buckin."

I live in a place called Pfafftown. I love when people that have my address want to confirm it to me over the phone. They read the number and street just fine. Then there's a long pause and you can almost hear their brains imploding having no idea what to say for this town.

For those wondering it's pronounced Paff
My uncle in law lives in Pflugerville

we find that about 75% of people mispronounce our single=syllable last name
the percentage isnt as bad in states other than alabama

was waiter at resort on lake michigan at the time

the place catered to families from chicago and detroit, and i heard very contrasting stories from parents, and a few ;from kids my age or older who made the trip. Generally deferred to parents, as we were highly motivated to rake in the tips. Resort policy was to pair wait staff into boy-girl l couples who were responsible for table the length of stay
