What are your expectations for Jalen Hurd this year?

I can give you Brian Dardens stats while in high school in MIssissippi and can make a case that he will be a stud.
His talent didn't transfer to the college level and he was gone in 1 1/2 seasons with only a few carries in mop up duty.

I can also give you the stats for Dominique Stevenson while in high school in South Carolina and make the case that he and Jamaal will be a great 1 - 2 punch at tailback. However; Fulmer never played him at tailback but put him in as a linebacker and he was drafted by Buffalo.

We never know how things will turn out in any given players career.

Who thought that Foster would play alot as a freshman? I had Riggs as the starter the whole season and getting 90% of the snaps.

Ya just never know!!!!!!!!

Foster did very well his RS FR season, but didn't he get the starting job after Rigg's broke his leg in 2005 (Bama game if I remember)?

I think amazing but with no OL it will be difficult. I compare him to Walker that had over 1600 his first year. Hurd does 1200 for sure. Lane is not the started after game 1.

I'm not trying to be negative, just coming with the facts. The closest the TEAM TOTAL has been to 2500 rushing yards (within the last few years) is 2418 yards in 2004. For some perspective, last year was our best rushing total since then, and it was 2261 total team rushing yards... and that was with a spotty (being generous) passing attack and calling runs about 57% of the time.

So basically what you're saying is a true freshmen running back who will (most likely) start the season as a backup, is coming off a HS senior year injury that took almost his entire season, and is running behind 5 new starting offensive linemen... a dude with all that against him is going to run for 1000 yards... and that is a reasonable (your word) expectation... just, I don't even. I'm speechless.

Bet you keep talking tho. :glare:

Bhatia et al in a Cochrane Database review of 10 eligible studies in Arthroscopy Feb 2014 reported up to an 8% rate of recurrent shoulder dislocation after Latarjet and did not comment on subluxation rates which are reported up to 15%. So tell me again, how little I know or did you even understand what I just wrote. And "trust me," 100% of people on this board, including you, know less about the diagnosis and management of shoulder pathology than I do.

You sound real important  post ALL the time!!!

People said the same things about Bryce Brown before his freshman year. We all know how that worked out.

People said the same things about Lane before his freshman year. He performed well, but wasn't as awesome as some predicted.

People said the same thing about Devonte Bourque. He was gone in two weeks.

Let's start by having more moderate expectations. Otherwise, some of you guys are always going to be setting yourselves up for disappointment.

I was pretty excited for Bourque tbh

Okay.

Healthy Lane Situation

Lane: 900-1100 yards

Hurd: 400-600 yards

Unhealthy Lane Situation

Lane: 300-500 yards

Hurd: 700 yards

Unhealthy Errbody

Scott: 1000 YPC

using his injury in HS as a reason he'll be injured in college is idiotic

Agree. But getting hit harder than he ever has before more times than ever before for a whole season is a reason he will get hurt. It happens to most all RBs in the league. Few are "healthy" in January.

I'd say anywhere between 600-800 if the O-Line gels together quickly. The O and D-Lines ability will determine whether we are a 4-8 all the way to an 8-4 team.

Its going to be a very wild year. Crazy to think that we could end up losing 8 games or be a Dark Horse in the East.

It may have been posted earlier that UT and Ohio State are the only 2 teams to never have lost 8 games in a season. I would like to maintain that claim
. . . at least for UT.

I still don't understand the "importance" of this.

Losing 7 also sucks!

He'll definitely get hit harder than he ever has. More, I doubt it. He carried the ball around 30 times per game as a junior (sometimes he got up to 40 touches).

He'll likely never see that many touches per game in college.

Luckily, his shoulder injury might actually be good for his lower body health. He had a full season to focus in recovery and avoid more wear and tear.

Most RBs see some injuries the ought ther college careers. If Hurd can keep his shoulder healthy, I doubt he'll see any worse than others.

And FWIW, he totally could have played through the injury he had as a senior. He just chose not to so he could focus on college ball.

Simple, don't run backwards, hold on to the football no fumbles, 5-10 td's 1,000 yards rushing, 250-500 yards receiving and don't get injured. Great blocker. No sacks allowed. Fall forward for extra yardage don't get stood up.

I have the same expectations for Marlin Lane and Devrin Young.

I hope he does better than Bryce Brown did as a freshman. I didn't see much out of him to think he was going to be asuper star and the way some of you are blowing Hurd up I'm afraid he will be a bust!

One of those few hits in college are equivalent to 5 hits in highschool. In highschool u can just out run everyone and the kids can't tackle correctly. In college those DB's hurt worst than anything. They fly in like torpedoes. Most think linebackers or d line hit hardest, but it's the db's. They go full speed and dive into you. When u have a 190-210 db running 4.3 full steam at you and then diving into your leg, it hurts.

Jalen has massive legs, and that's all u really need. As long as he keeps his pads low and plays at 6'. He will be great. I told him leverage is the most important thing. It allows u to play heavier also. U can add 15-20 pounds on u by playing lower, so to speak. Travis Henry played really low. He could never get tackled straight up. He trucked big J 98 in practice.

I don't know how many yards he is gonna have, but I do think he will make Tenn football more fun to watch again. Just an old man's thoughts

I totally agree that he'll be getting hit harder than he ever has; I conceded that. I was just pointing out that TECHNICALLY he'll probably be taking fewer hits than he did as a junior.

You're totally right to point out the difference between getting hit by TN high school football players and SEC defenders. I just don't see him getting tackled 40 times a game in college.

i hope that all three of our back are out there as a dynamic trio! fresh legs every couple of plays and march down the field for 6!!! the vet Lane, the power Scott, and the home run Hurd!! It will be fun to see!!

My expectations: Run with the ball, don't fumble, and score every once in a while.

Other than that, I don't build up some Himalayan expectation for a true freshman in his first year.
