I can give you Brian Dardens stats while in high school in MIssissippi and can make a case that he will be a stud.
His talent didn't transfer to the college level and he was gone in 1 1/2 seasons with only a few carries in mop up duty.
I can also give you the stats for Dominique Stevenson while in high school in South Carolina and make the case that he and Jamaal will be a great 1 - 2 punch at tailback. However; Fulmer never played him at tailback but put him in as a linebacker and he was drafted by Buffalo.
We never know how things will turn out in any given players career.
Who thought that Foster would play alot as a freshman? I had Riggs as the starter the whole season and getting 90% of the snaps.
Ya just never know!!!!!!!!
I'm not trying to be negative, just coming with the facts. The closest the TEAM TOTAL has been to 2500 rushing yards (within the last few years) is 2418 yards in 2004. For some perspective, last year was our best rushing total since then, and it was 2261 total team rushing yards... and that was with a spotty (being generous) passing attack and calling runs about 57% of the time.
So basically what you're saying is a true freshmen running back who will (most likely) start the season as a backup, is coming off a HS senior year injury that took almost his entire season, and is running behind 5 new starting offensive linemen... a dude with all that against him is going to run for 1000 yards... and that is a reasonable (your word) expectation... just, I don't even. I'm speechless.
Bhatia et al in a Cochrane Database review of 10 eligible studies in Arthroscopy Feb 2014 reported up to an 8% rate of recurrent shoulder dislocation after Latarjet and did not comment on subluxation rates which are reported up to 15%. So tell me again, how little I know or did you even understand what I just wrote. And "trust me," 100% of people on this board, including you, know less about the diagnosis and management of shoulder pathology than I do.
People said the same things about Bryce Brown before his freshman year. We all know how that worked out.
People said the same things about Lane before his freshman year. He performed well, but wasn't as awesome as some predicted.
People said the same thing about Devonte Bourque. He was gone in two weeks.
Let's start by having more moderate expectations. Otherwise, some of you guys are always going to be setting yourselves up for disappointment.
I'd say anywhere between 600-800 if the O-Line gels together quickly. The O and D-Lines ability will determine whether we are a 4-8 all the way to an 8-4 team.
Its going to be a very wild year. Crazy to think that we could end up losing 8 games or be a Dark Horse in the East.
Agree. But getting hit harder than he ever has before more times than ever before for a whole season is a reason he will get hurt. It happens to most all RBs in the league. Few are "healthy" in January.
One of those few hits in college are equivalent to 5 hits in highschool. In highschool u can just out run everyone and the kids can't tackle correctly. In college those DB's hurt worst than anything. They fly in like torpedoes. Most think linebackers or d line hit hardest, but it's the db's. They go full speed and dive into you. When u have a 190-210 db running 4.3 full steam at you and then diving into your leg, it hurts. He'll definitely get hit harder than he ever has. More, I doubt it. He carried the ball around 30 times per game as a junior (sometimes he got up to 40 touches).
He'll likely never see that many touches per game in college.
Luckily, his shoulder injury might actually be good for his lower body health. He had a full season to focus in recovery and avoid more wear and tear.
Most RBs see some injuries the ought ther college careers. If Hurd can keep his shoulder healthy, I doubt he'll see any worse than others.
And FWIW, he totally could have played through the injury he had as a senior. He just chose not to so he could focus on college ball.

I totally agree that he'll be getting hit harder than he ever has; I conceded that. I was just pointing out that TECHNICALLY he'll probably be taking fewer hits than he did as a junior. One of those few hits in college are equivalent to 5 hits in highschool.
