What does a record attendance for the Orange and White game mean

I went to an Orange and White game when I was in school there in the 70s and I can tell you it's like a big ole orange and white Valium tablet. A real sleeper. If i lived in Ktown (and thank God I don't) maybe would go over to show support if I had Honey Do list finished but otherwise "Forget about it".

92volalum is really starting to piss me off...you're a kook dude. So quit kookin' up the joint.

I can be bipolar at times.. lol but last year VN said 9 or 10 wins n if we would have broken the spring attd record would it have change the season or our recruiting status.

My understanding is it was the year after the smashing of the Canes in the Sugar Bowl. So, '86-'87? Don't quote me. My memory has had a 50 year razzle dazzle mumbo jumbo scramble chip installed.

:)

LOL Well, no offense, but fortunately and unfortunately, the Sugar Bowl and thereafter are some of my earliest memories of being a Vol fan, since I was born in 1981. My knowledge history and memory only go so far back! :) But, our stadium didn't hold as many then as it can now, so I guess it's all relative to what era we're talking about.

Either way, that's a heck of a lot more than it has been in recent years. I'd be ecstatic if we brought in 70K+ .

What year did we have that many? I thought the year we had Kiffin we had around 52K and that that was the record?

Manning's return for his senior year was a bigger crowd than the Kiffin season. Neyland was under renovation in 2009 as well.

Yeah, I was living outside of Nashville then and my first O&W game was in the 1999 season. Thanks for the info.

And I do remember Neyland being under renovations in 2009 for the TN Terrace additions and whatnot, but we still had plenty of spots open in the lower bowl. We could have done better that year, IMO.

IMO, it looks like UT has a coach that wants to create a "Big Orange Family" atmosphere. Which is outstanding. With that I think the UT marketing dept. has dropped the ball.

The O&W game needs to be more than a boring Spring football scrimmage. It needs to be an event. Tailgating should be encouraged, Vol Walk, Band, and maybe a post game concert, etc.

UT has tried to pair with a baseball game in the past, who cares?

I've never been a star-gazer regarding recruiting but with the instant info available I think a great crowd/ atmosphere at the O&W would only help. However, once the game starts, look around. There's not a lot of energy in the place.

Back in the late 80's I was in HS in Charlotte, NC. The Hornets had just started playing there. They led the league in attendance many times because they had the largest arena and it was packed. But the team sucked! Why was it packed? It was simply the place to be.

UT needs to spend some CASH and make the O&W weekend the place to be if you're a Vol fan. That would create energy with the fans, players, recruits, and the program as a whole.

The spring game means nothing if we win 4 games next year that is what recruits n bama n Fla etc will use to turn recruits come Jan of 2014 not that we had a record crowd. IMO

This is more of a vol nation thing n coaches n hart want u to be there so they mark off hurdle no 1 convincing big orange nation that we r back... most will wait n see.

This is the ultimate stupid negavol post. Apples and oranges. Having great attendance at the O&W game builds momentum for the program, shows recruits an incredibly supportive, positive fan base, maybe makes them want to a part if it.

Also, shows team and coaches how much we support what they're doing, helps them buy in even more. Stop with the negative "means nothing if they don't win in the fall..." crap!

For the 2014 recruiting class? It will send a positive message to all that can see, through news articles, the infamous Bleacher Report, tweets from all around the country, various sports radio broadcasts (The Animal, TSR, etc.), and all of the video's released of the crowd, and the game, and the autograph signings, THE FAN DAY... After all, it's stuctured more towards The Fan, isn't it?

Can you imagine the Ammunition Byron Moore, Jalen Hurd, Vic Wharton, and all others would have if UT FANS broke the attendance record for the Orange and White game?

I say let's go ALL IN!! It is our responsibility to hold up our end of the bargain when it comes to the RETURN of the REAL Tennessee Volunteers, and I will be there, standing tall, with a BIG ORANGE smile on my UT face, because I will Volunteer to do everything I can to push our Vols back to the top, where we belong!

What say you? Will you be there?
I'll be there, but I doubt the crowd will be that big. I mean think about, who's autograph do you want?.......Worley, Johnson, Neal........no big names.

Deanthonie Summerhill and Nikolay Timoshchuk are probably the biggest names on the team.

I will be willing to bet there will be a FAMILY LOAD of ex-Vols all over the place. Think about it...

I've heard its free admission. I've never gone before and my brother, me, and a few friends are definitely going. How does seating work if you're not buying a ticket? Do you just sit where ever you want?

Good question. If it's first come first serve, I will be PRIME TIME!
