Folks - it's a long time until August. Many things can be worked on individually over the rest of the spring and summer, including guys getting their heads right. When fall camp starts it will work itself out.

Why does a guy like Carter have to prove anything to any fan? The guy is just a good football player, period. He slipped through the cracks in recruiting from HS and UT is the beneficiary of his personal desire to be a Vol. The thing I really like about Jones is that he doesn't care how highly rated you are coming out of HS. He wants guys to get it done on the field, where it really matters. Who knew Travis Kelce before he developed into the one of the very best TE's in college football at Cincy? Jacob is one of those type of guys at his position. In the end, so could DY at slot or returner. It's up to him to get it done. Jones will lay out the path and give him the chance.

I'd rather have ten Jacob Carters then one prima donna !

Carter will catch anything you put infront of him........

Hey, too all the arm chair coaches who laughed at the idea of Carter getting alot of playing time....

Who's laughing now?

Carter has caught a few punts in spring practice. If our performance is based off of spring practice why have we had three losing seasons in a row? Bama, Florida, Oregon, etc. would destroy this kid on a punt return. and i actually did laugh when i read your comment...this is SEC big boy ball..not a league of walk ons.

I remember Young's first Kickoff return. He almost took it home.
He was very close to scoring a touchdown on 2-3 different occasions as well, IIRC.

What I like about Devrin back there is that he heads up field. Not a lot of thinking and dancing.

I remember that too. It was vs Buffalo in 2011. He was about 1/2 step from a TD the first time he ever touched the ball at UT. I thought he had done a good job with punt returns...don't ever recall a fumble.

Pretty much anything involving a kicked ball has sucked here for the last few years.
Basic things, fielding a punt, kicking a point, punting deep, blocking a kick.
Geez man I recall when we could depend on special teams / kicking game to keep us in the game.
Damn I miss George Cafego !!

I find it strange that Young has apparently been having troubles with catching the ball. Early on it was that he WAS catching the ball well that was being lauded as being such an upgrade from seasons past. His return production was pretty good too. He was obviously greatly overshadowed by CP in that dept last season but that's a wholly unfair thing to criticize him for. How many players in the whole of the NCAA deserved to be lumped with CP as a returner?

Sounds like you have a bias there. Actually Carter reminds me of kids like Larry Seivers and Dale Jones. Both were under recruited and ended up on All-SEC and All-American teams due to their work ethic. I agree with the original poster that he would do better than a prima donna. And when you say that he would be destroyed by Bama, Florida, and Oregon, Johnny Football sez "hello."

I think DY does a decent job catching the ball. I am more concerned with his lack of speed and tripping over the 35 yard line on several occasions.
