What Happened to the Affordable Pickup Truck?

There's a place in Greenback that sells rebuilt title Tacomas, problem being unless you've got cash on hand you're out of luck because nobody will finance. Price is great though, mostly recovered stolen ones.
I bought my first car from a guy that did that with Hondas. Do you know the name of the buisness?

Edit: I found out.

I've financed 2 rebuilt vehicles. You've either got bad info or bad lenders.

I saw a 2019 Chevrolet Silverado in a newspaper ad that was discounted down to $57,600...knocked off $10K.
Good Lord.......that's ridiculous just for personal use. I heard on local talk radio the other day that some dealerships were now going to a 84 month payment plan now......imho, that's plain stupid to spend that much.
That's why you see so many of those 50k trucks on the road. A lot of people finance them for 7 years. Ridiculous imo.

A good lesson in the cost for a new truck. This is in every truck you buy today. People love touching the gas pedal and being able to go, but don’t understand the mechanical side of it.

Check out local government, police, universities, etc. for surplus or confiscated vehicles. You can usually get a good deal price wise. Police or government owned vehicles probably have a bunch of miles on it, but probably also has been maintained on schedule. Confiscated vehicles are a crap shoot, but are usually pretty cheap.

Issue with former service vehicles is that the hours are generally much higher than the mileage would indicate

My son turned 16 last November. We were able to budget $5000. He was impatient as I knew he would be when we started looking. Looked at a mid 2000 Ranger xtra cab. Trans wouldn't have made it too long, and having an extremely used 4.3 S-10 garbage hauler myself, didn't really like the Ranger. Same guy had an F-150 4WD that was horrendous. Had to pry the boy away from that thing. He couldn't understand why I said no. Made it to look at two others 30 miles up the highway. One was a 2004 Silverado Standard cab with that great and economical Chevy V8 they should have never got away from. Truck ran good, but he wouldn't come off the price and I was still not totally comfortable with him as seller. At $4000 prob should have bought anyway. Ended up with a 96 Dakota V6 with new interior, an engine bay that was showroom clean. No leaks, no spills, no errors. New tires. $2400. With the left over money put brighter headlamps in, rolled on bedliner, new Sony stereo and speakers, after market power door locks, tinted windows. and a few minor maintenance items. Thing runs like a top, and inexpensive if anything does need fixing. Mileage averaged out to less than 8000 per year. Only real future mod at this point is to replace the wiper motor and mechanisms to quiet that function down. All those parts can be had on Rock Auto for less than $75.

The affordable truck died when ding dong suburbanite dad started buying them for his grocery getter.

We have a winner. I'll never forget a dealership trying to snowball me over scratches in the bed. I told them a truck was made for working, hauling, and the bottom of the bed having scratches was normal. Told them to give me my keys as I wasn't playing their games.

I question why a person needed a truck if it has no scratches or dents in the bed.

I used to thing car/truck financing had gotten insane (and it has), but then I made friends with a guy that sells new boats.

People basically carry mortgages on these damn wake boats and high line bass boats. I'm not sure if I can think of a more stupid financial transaction.

What? Are you saying a 20 year note on a $150,000 - $175,000 boat is a bad financial decision?

Nah, the boat is probabaly fine. I'm just talking about the part that covers the custom powder coated/color matched trailer with 20" color matched wheels.
Don't leave out the $15,000 sound system so everyone can hear what you are listening to 7 miles down the lake!!! Or the awesome $50,000 Corvette Engine Malibu puts in some. I used to do loans on these things like hot cakes. It's always the guy who makes about 80k/year with 2 kids that has to impress the neighborhood and the people they associate with 3 months out of the year. I guess paying $1,100 a month for 20 years is worth it. The island we go to during the lake season is loaded with them. 8/10 are douche bags who have no business owning a boat and take up the ramps for 45 minutes at a time because they have no idea how to load or launch. /Rant over

Dude, I'm right there with you. Those kids running that Mastercraft up into a tree on Douglas a couple years ago is the perfect microcosm of those things. Its a thousand wonders they weren't all killed.

Don't get me started with how they ruin simply cruising around the lake, or are frigging destroying shorelines because they can't be bothered to run out in the main channel...

Its borderline sad when you see them trying to sell them on Craigslist of FB Marketplace...but I have no sympathy. Prayers for their micro peens.

I have no sympathy either. It's what happens when you live above your means. You live broke and in debt to the lender your whole life while trying to impress everyone. My absolute will not tolerate event is when they cruise through an inlet where everyone is anchored. They proceed to beat and/or unanchor everyone's boats. I've hopped a few jet skis before and threw up a middle finger or two when that's happened. Complete lack of respect.
