I have a very cheap truck. It's a four-door, 2WD 2003 Nissan Frontier, manual, no power locks or anything fancy...my Dad bought it used around 2006 for $15k (and has since sold it to me). That still seems more expensive than trucks used to be and this truck has only gone 60k miles and even still it's falling apart....little things like the latch on the tailgate is broken.
I had a 99 Ranger Sport I traded back when gas was higher and I was commuting further. I'd kill to have that truck back. I've been looking at used trucks lately and it's not impossible to find a good one with low miles. It requires some patience though.
I've got my eye on a 06 Frontier at the moment. I learned to drive on one of these.I wish i had back every GMC truck i ever owned. The brown 76 with straight 6 n 3 on the tree i traded for family station wagon; the S-15 with 4.3 n Borg Warner T-5, i loved, but it developed some wiring issues; and the last Canyon with I-4 n 5-spd was all paid off ... but some yahoo totalled it. Soon, though, soon.

Dad traded it a few months before I tuned 16. So I have a soft spot for Nissan.
I got a 2019 Tacoma in August. And honestly i'm very underwhelmed by the quality. It has more interior rattles and vibrations than any other car/truck I've had. And I mean over the life of all those cars/trucks.
I've done no offroading, and yesterday I noticed that it appears my alignment is off. I adjusted the height of the steering wheel and I realized the truck drives straight if you take your hands off the wheel, but to drive straight the wheel is turned a 3-4 degrees to the right. If you center the steering wheel, you're slowly going left. I do a lot of driving in the dark, so for all I know it may have been like this the day I bought it. Not even 4000 miles yet.
I've heard some similar things about the current generation Tacoma, they say theyre great trucks but not on the level of the previous ones.I got a 2019 Tacoma in August. I was interested in them too, but everything I read says avoid any model after the 2015. The prices on used trucks is insane right now. Surely people aren’t dropping 30 grand on trucks with over 150,000 miles on them.I've heard some similar things about the current generation Tacoma, they say theyre great trucks but not on the level of the previous ones.
I would like to get one but beginning to look at other options; I was excited for the Ranger but that's just an ugly assed vehicle
I've found a few older ones (2005 - 2012) with low miles(60 - 85k) for 10k - 15k. They'll either be domestic or a Nissan, but they're out there. I found an F150, Silverado, Frontier, and 2 Dakotas that fit that description yesterday. The full sizes where here in the Tri and the Mid sizes were in the Knoxville area. That's about as good as I've seen.It does seem that if you want 4x4 you may as well just buy a new one
There's a place in Greenback that sells rebuilt title Tacomas, problem being unless you've got cash on hand you're out of luck because nobody will finance. Price is great though, mostly recovered stolen ones.I've found a few older ones (2005 - 2012) with low miles(60 - 85k) for 10k - 15k. They'll either be domestic or a Nissan, but they're out there. Skeptical of this post...I got a 2019 Tacoma in August. And honestly i'm very underwhelmed by the quality. It has more interior rattles and vibrations than any other car/truck I've had. And I mean over the life of all those cars/trucks.
