What has happened to this offense?

Oh, please, brother. Nico has underperformed all year. We’ve all seen it. He has yet to meet his expectations and earn his NIL money. Not all his fault, of course…e.g. he only has a couple of receivers who can consistently separate and get open. That said, he’s our guy and we wish him great results and glory.
What he makes NIL wise is irrelevant to me. We don't even know how accurate any of those numbers out there are.

Nico throws the deep ball like Joe Milton. That is a big part of the reason. Missed so many this year on overthrows that would have opened up games early. It is worrying because Joe struggled with it his whole time here.

To sum it up, this year's team is 2023's offense with a better defense.

Cashing checks & that’s all that matters to most of these kids, unfortunately.

Do you love your job? would you do it for free? point is, get off your high horse, not gonna say im a huge fan of NIL, or at least the current implementation, but it is what it is. 90%+ of highly hyped players out of high school will not make it big in the NFL, so it is in their best interest to take advantage of it while they can

When I was 19, if I was getting paid millions of dollars, I’d have little to no motivation to 100% dedicate myself to my craft because I’d be set for life.

Don’t act like you wouldn’t feel the same at that age. Answering the question as a 50 year old is a different discussion of a different context. Get off of your high horse trying to act like you would have put the Tennessee Football program above all else as a teenager taking in millions. Delusional.

Once again, they have skills they are getting paid to use to make a lot of money for UT.

Whether you like it or not, they deserve to be paid what the market says they can get. You're unAmerican to suggest otherwise.

Point out in my posts where I said it wasn’t deserved. I’ll wait.

My point, which you are having a hard time grasping, is his mindset as a 19-year old because of the money involved.

So you're just stupidly generalizing about age and money then. Got it.

I think all guys who have Calls in their handle are morons. See how stupid generalizations are?

I know he has been posted here before, but if you watch some of The Film Guy breakdowns on YouTube then you get a sense of why the offense is struggling to throw and catch the ball. The theme all season is that often times ony 2/3 of the offense is firing at once while the 1/3 kills the play. Sometimes blocking and WRs are good, but Nico overthrows. Other times Nico is running for his life because pass pro was awful. Other times Nico hits WRs in the hands and they just drop it.

We just are not in sync enough to be dominant downfield. The elements are there but we are always missing something.

This is true of most programs that don't meet expectations. No matter how well you recruit, if you don't have consistent execution from everyone on the field, you're not going to excel.

Saban called it the process. I hear Heupel repeatedly talking about how "we need guys on offense, defense, and special teams to perform their task at a high level...."

It's discipline and, as you say, it's been "whack a mole" spotty in a lot of games.

I think the loss of Pili on D was huge as far as leadership and buy in goes for those guys. Pili was a great leader. I feel the O Line hasn't gotten the leadership from Cooper Mays that I expected when he returned. I'm glad he came back but I expected him to help keep the O Line together and disciplined but it doesn't seem to have worked out that way.

We have had pr,o lens running our ‘normal” offense against SEC caliber teams all year. When we get a bit more creative, we seem to be able to do much better. It was fun and relieving to see us play some of the younger players and show that we can do something other than run off tackle throw the sideline screen, and throw the deep ball. We did not score in the first quarter running the same old stuff we have been running all year; plays that opposing defenses had been expecting. The players seem to appreciate the change in play calling and the desired results.

The motivation is

1. Winning. Most players do care about that, money or not.

2. Getting to the next level, which is literally every players dream.

I don't understand when we are in 12 personnel and the defense shows a 5-man box why we still pass it. Didn't see it much today but saw it many times vs Georgia. Why not take the numbers and run the ball? What are they seeing that I'm not?

Haven’t you heard? When a QB gets NIL, he is expected to throw it, catch it and do all of the blocking.
Serious questions. What was your realistic expectations for Nico at the beginning of the year? Has he met, exceeded or failed to meet your expectations? Do you honestly think Nico has played good this year?

Nico has gotten better and better after some obvious early SEC struggles. I think he will be a star in 2025.

My bigger concern is development in the passing game and routes being run. One of our biggest offensive threats was a a non-scholarship player last year at Alabama! Squirrel, Bru, Thornton, Brazzel, Nimrod have all had crucial drops and each have critical faults.

We need Mathews, Staley, Leacock to emerge and hit the transfer portal to expect more success in 2025.

Also something needs to change with the OC/WR coaching
