What Heup had to say after the game

Hate seeing the negativity on CJH. People forget how damn bad is was with Dooley, Jones, Pruitt. He is a great coach, we are done on CB's. Better than anything the rest of the bunch did.
We can critique this $8 mil coach without hating him. The product he put on the field tonight was an embarrassment and that needs to be pointed out.

After three seasons, the W/L record of each of them:
Dooley 15-21
Butch 21-17
Pruitt 16-19
If we beat Vandy and win our bowl, Heupel will be 27-12 for first three years.

The obvious good thing about the negativity is that Heupel is the first coach since Kiffin who’s shown glimpses and games that he can compete with anyone. The downside is that it will take time and losses like today are concerning.

People are louder with Heupel than say Butch or Pruitt because Heupel has shown how high level he can coach. Butch and Pruitt were just morons who lucked into any success they experienced here.

I used to cut the coach some slack, but no more. It's embarrassing watching the vols set up for a field goal with a huge point differential and 10 seconds left. What's the point of that? It's just horrible coaching and decision making. They got their butts handed to them, so with 10 seconds just run a play or take a knee.

WORSE? Your kicker misses a easy FG. So now the coach doubled down on a really bad initial decision to go for a fg and then it's missed.

Picture a 18 year old kid deciding where they want to play and seeing THAT sequence of events. No recruit wants to go to a school that would even contemplate going for a fg in those circumstances. It makes it easier for kids to walk away from the vols than play for the vols.

Seriously: Every game is a recruiting opportunity. players know what to look for in the decisions a coach makes.

Think about how much that sequence undermines the coach for quite a while: He can't tell any player or any player wired like me to "Use my head" because I'd immediate think, this ahole is gonna tell ME to use my head and he's going for a fg in THOSE circumstances and then miss it. LOL good luck with that coach.

And that just that short sequence at the end of the game. Coach H makes all kinds of mistakes that aren't discussed here. THIS is actually a very protective site of this coach. He's being mocked severely else where or he's been dismissed, which is worse.

I get it. But at same time this was always a bridge year.

I’m glad the fan base has this frustration because Heupel has shown what he can do. That the maddening part of this. With Butch and Pruitt, you knew it was a ticking time bomb until they blew up. Heupel has Atleast shown he can go toe to toe with top teams in this league.

I never got the sense the future will be bright with those guys. Heupel I do.

We got punched in the mouth and didn't respond. We took it.

That shouldn't happen...I can take getting beat in a dogfight but can't handle getting taken to the woodshed and asking for more. It happens too much.

Not time to even think about any HC change. To win a SEC Championship it is going to take better recruiting. I'm not ready to jump ship with CJH!

Folks, CJH has to toughen up a little bit! Develop that mean streak! He just doesn't push his players enough, or motivates them enough! We also got out coached by Florida, Austin Peay, Bama, & now this game! When the refs make these horrific calls, he just absorbs them like a sponge! What do you think Saban & Kirby Smart will do in these situations? I will tell you what they would do! They will snap on the refs, their players, or even bench them if they have to! They will do WHAT EVER IT TAKES TO WIN!

UF QB dinks and dunks every game because he is not accurate down the field (Milton). We should use same strategy with Sampson squirrel wright and using their speed in the open field

I think its on the coach to not get embarrassed on the road. It's one thing to get beat, but that should be unacceptable to even the casual fan. Maybe a QB that isn't afraid of his own shadow or a defense that played mad might help..
To be as big and strong as Milton is he’s too tentative when it comes to running the ball. When he does run he appears to go down too easy too. He’ll drop his shoulder now and then, but he looks like he gives up early and jumps or leans forward to the ground instead of keeping his feet moving

It sure didn't make me feel better to kick a FG in the waning seconds so we could lose 36-10 instead of 36-7. That is rinky-dink. It was almost poetic justice to have missed it.
I believe the FG attempt was more about helping our kicker in his drive to win the national kicker of the year rather than points. I believe he is a semi-finalist. Too bad he missed it.

We’ve had such a bad run and over the course of those coaches, that we are all very sensitive to anything that feels like those years did. Today definitely felt like those years did.

I agree but the bad part is he didn't recruit any of those guys last year ..Did our wide receiver coach leave after last year ? He has been here how many years ? What players has he recruited and actually developed ? Just really asking not being a ass ..I like coach and want him here for the long haul but having a **** game every November will not work , not to mention coming out flat against weaker opponents..Our D has been a issue since he has been here .. Doesn't make a difference why ...Can anyone tell me with a straight face that things look good for next year outside the letters NICO??

That may be true… so far. But today rhymed with all those other losers. We got absolutely embarrassed by mizzouri and they ran right at our strengths and stacked the box. We got absolutely owned and it left us feeling like we cared more than the team did. A hallmark of the previous losers to coach us.

Exactly...I can stand losing in a dogfight to the end. I can't stand bending over and taking it and then asking for another....

And you are right...we are having too many games like this like we had from some previous coaches. Not a good feeling.

The field goal at the end of the game just about got me off the Heupel finesse garbage train..Figure out you have to be physical in this league or be the next to be fired in a few more flop around years..The running game is simplistic in nature and the linemen aren't really that big.. More of a get in your way line than push you out of the way. The scheme May not make it here without some tweaks..
