Found this interesting..From today

“@PeoriaIrish: 2013 Wing Alec Peter has received a scholarship from Tennessee!”

Wonder if we may have got some bad news somewhere or that this offer is conditional

Must be.. I also found this as well

“@scott_chihoops: RT @cavwalsh: Class of 2013 Washington HS wing Alec Peters ( @petersalec ) informs me he has picked up an offer from Tennessee”

That's very odd. Peters is a decent prospect, but awfully late to offer somebody.

Definitely an interesting offer, I'd say it's most likely conditional...

Also, most guys will want to visit before making a decision, so you can string him along that way.

He's a guy we have been watching for awhile, but definitely a bit surprised by the offer.

Honestly I take this...the J3 ship has most likely sailed, and this staff wants to sign 5 guys this year. Nichols being 4, you have foster, Rimmer and now peters competing for the 5th spot. Rimmer is not a given, he's a good prospect who's receiving interest from some very good schools...well had our work cut out if that's who we want.

Maybe, but that's exactly the way the Reese deal went down last fall. They offered. It was by far his best offer and he jumped before taking a visit. Looking at the kid's other offers, wouldn't surprise me if he says yes in a hurry.

Definitely don't need another Hopson on our hands

Honestly, I'd take Hopson again every time.
It's not like he had a bad career here.
He didn't turn out to be as good as expected, so a lot of people act like he sucked, but he was one of our best players.

Its not that he was a total wash, he just could have been so much more if he would have actually put forth the effort day in and day out. He was a great talent, but I would rather have a lesser talented player with more drive, determination, and heart than another Hopson.

Hopson could have flipped his reputation to near-legend by making 2-2 FT instead of 1-2.

Scotty had a very good career here. He never fully reached his potential, we only ever saw it in flashes. But he was still a great player for us, though extremely frustrating to watch at times. I'll always wonder what would've happened if he'd have stayed for his senior season. I hope he puts it all together here soon and makes it in to the league.

Highly doubting its a committable offer, if it was I'd definitely question that move.

i would take peters in a second. this team is full of slashers and finishers at the rim. what
this program could use imho is a shooter that can find open spaces ala lee humphrey, not someone that can shoot but a legit shooter. this kid appears to be the prototypical indiana school boy shooter and at 6-7 can get his shot over a zone when needed.

That and his ball handling skills were horrible for a D1 level wing.

Still think Hopson was out of position his whole career. Should have been playing small forward. That would have given him a quickness advantage on defense and helped hide is lack of ball handling. However, the pressure to prove to the pros that he was a 2 guard over ruled that move.

So, what's the deal with Sam Edwards out of Memphis Oakhaven? I see Tennessee has offered him. A 3 star 7 footer. Or is he a project?

with all the negativity surrounding the football program, it is so refreshing to have such good news pouring in from our basketball program. GO VOLS!!!

What would really hurt this class is not getting Nichols. JW3 may not be in the fold, but Having Hubbs on board makes the class better with another quality BIG like Nichols. I think we have Duke or Vandy to beat out for his services. Although he visited Memphis, that was only a courtesy call.

To be honest, Edwards recruitment has been pretty quiet for a while. He's a project IMO, but 7-footers don't really grow on trees and could potentially be molded into a dominating big man if he had the right skill set to work off of. He's been to several schools in the past so transcripts may be an issue for him, but I really don't know. He will be a "Plan B" type of guy if someone like Rimmer doesn't work out. I'd look for his name to come up more if that isn't the case and depending on how his season unfolds. I didn't hear anything about him during the AAU circuit.

bleedingTNorange = post too much ( get a life)

BTO is one of the best posters in the bball forum and provides this board with a great deal of info. You should probably consider bringing some useful posts to the board before you say something like that.

As I understand it, there are some character issues, and issues with his "camp". Not sure if this is still the case or not.

In a traditional offense, I would agree, but Pearl's 2 and 3 position were fairly interchangeable. It gravitated from two undersized guys (Lofton and Smith) to two longer athletic guys in Hopson and Tatum-JP. Hopson was also a weak rebounder, even playing from the guard position.

In a traditional offense though, I think you're right, and we would have been demanded to rebound.
