What is going on with Georgia recruiting?

Over the last few months they've been picking up crazy amounts of very highly rated recruits despite their lackluster season. Do kids really want to play for Smart that badly? I would have imagined recruiting to slow down for the Dogs but Smart's doing better than even Richt.

New coach bump. Same as Jones got. The issue is who sustains it by actually proving they can coach and fulfill the "promises" of taking the program to a championship level.

Remember how Hurd and others came in parroting Jones' talking point about putting UT football back where it belongs?

That's why Smart is competing for 5* players and Jones is trying to swipe a 2* RB from WKU and Purdue.

Oh you mean like UT did after Butch's first year?

Agreed. The Georgia game in Neyland Stadium will be the most important game of the year next season, not only to sustain the momentum for our program but to keep Smart from building Georgia into a serious SEC contender.

Florida has won the East in McElwain's first two seasons, but he doesn't impress me much as a recruiter or gameday strategist. Smart's experience at Alabama and the patience/loyalty of his fanbase (because he's a UGA grad) make his program a far bigger threat to us.

Plus, he doesn't have an accent.

You have to give Smart credit recruiting this year especially. That said he had two VERY unhappy campers in Chubb and Michel that demanded a closed door meeting midway during the season. 2 games when 1 yard was needed they went with the human joystick that failed and the other game went to their true freshman QB who failed. Chubb and Michel had seen enough, screaming hollering and demands along with Kirby's boys and Richt;s boys thrown in the mix. It worked they started getting the ball a little more. Smart even convinced them to stay around next year, but he has HUGE problems doing that. #1 it seems they are going to get 3 really good freshman OLs starting for them. They may be road graders but freshman they will be in the SEC. Couple that with Herrien and Evander Holyfield's highly rated son at RB along with a 5 star RB coming in and Smart has discontent problems of his own making potentially blowing up in his face all season. If he manages through it, he could be on to something, but he didn't set the woods on fire and scare anybody so far this year.

The University of Georgia might be the easiest recruiting job in the country. All you have to do is drive to Atlanta and you can field half your team.
