To help get my mind off of the beatdown we're taking now, let's talk about someone else.

I went to Bobby Dodd Thursday night for Va Tech-Ga Tech, and it felt like a minor league baseball game.

About 8,000 seats empty, little noise, and oldies and other bad music pumped into the stadium more frequently than it should have been. Also, they only showed about 12 replays the entire game.

I'd heard it was a pretty electric place, and it was a Thursday night, nationally televised game, so I came away disappointed.

Tennessee @ Vanderbilt 2008. Cold, 11:21 kick off, both teams were terrible, Fulmer was finishing the season after being fired.

I went to see UCLA vs Oregon State at the Rose Bowl last year. UCLA won on a field goal as time expired, but up until that point the whole place was very quiet. There wasn't much going on outside the stadium before the game started either, at least compared to what I'm used to in Knoxville. The official attendance was in the low 60,000s, and it looked more like 50,000. The place seats 91,000.

If you're "disappointed" when you go to Vandy, then your expectations are too high. When you go to Vandy, you should expect, by far, the worst home football atmosphere in the SEC. Thus, the experience itself should never be "disappointing."

Well, yes. Compared to SEC football it's the minor leagues. I go to their games sometimes, and it's fun, but there's no way I'd describe it as "electric."

Also I don't think there's much question that Paul Johnson's offense has had a negative impact on the atmosphere there. He's a good choice for them, but the option basically rocks that crowd to sleep. It was definitely louder back when Joe Hamilton was throwing the ball all over the place.

I take into account it's Vandy, and I'm still dissappointed. I compare it to Commonwealth Stadium; I've been up there when they've sucked worse than now and that place was pretty rocking. Kentucky's football history is only slightly better than Vandy's yet the support is no comparison. I know it's state school vs. private and all that, but still.

The thing is, it wasn't just the crowd that was lame.

The music sucked, the jumbotron videos sucked, the band was average- there was just zero atmosphere.

I was there. Drunk and cold. CJ Boleman played quite a bit in that game

Any game in 2008 at Neyland Stadium. Alabama was the worst. It was disappointing then. Now it is almost like watching a neutered dog lick itself.

Rose bowl has a tough time for regular season games because of the tailgating situation. Or lack thereof.

It's the minors. If you're used to SEC pageantry, the ACC is like high school.

I'd say Clemson and Va Tech would be exceptions . . . but other than that, it's hard to argue with you. Ga Tech games are just sad.

Blacksburg is more like an SEC atmosphere, if we're going that route. Every game I have been there has been infinitely better than Georgia Tech was.

You picked the wrong year to go. The 2009 game against VT was one of the most electric college football atmospheres I've ever been a part of, which is particularly amazing since it was a smaller stadium.

They also played T-Pain at about 350 decibes every five seconds, so that might have had to do with it.

University of the South. . .They drink out of glasses and rarely face the field.

UVA - Miami in Charlottesville several years ago. Miami was undefeated and UVA was 5-2. Everyone sat down after the kickoff and rarely stood. 9 minutes left in fourth, uva pulls within 3. Miami returns kickoff for td. All the fans get up and leave. worse than some vol fans.

Sounds a lot like going to a game at Neyland. I'm sorry but for a place that holds over 100k, Neyland is a disappointment. Way to many people sitting on their hands. I said this years ago, a lot of people who go the game only go to tell everyone they went.

I know, I'm not a true fan.

Michigan Stadium

Mich State at Mich. have been in the stands twice, on the field once.

In the Stands: the seats are too narrow. Im 5'9-1/2 :) and about 200lbs. Not a big guy, not small. There was barely room for ME in my seat, but then you count all the fat behinds that were in the same row as me, and it was uncomfortable. VERY much so.

And there are a lot of fata$ses that attend uOFm games. Most of their fanbase.

The worst part is that even with 100k people, it was like sitting in a morgue. so quiet. MSU lost the two games where I was in the stands. They were very close games, and the place was quiet.

I was on the field when MSU beat um in 1984. The fans have ZERO impact on the game. You might see them going nuts in the stands, but there is no impact on the field.

Has to be an issue with how the place was built, or maybe just that the fans are not as into the game as they look on tv. But three times, it was dead.
