What is the most disappointing stadium atmosphere you have experienced?

I remember reading that the way the bowl at UofM is built transfers virtually none of the sound from the stands to the field. Makes sense, look at how shallow it is. There are a few stadiums out there that are either acoustically designed to transmit noise on to the field (hence why Autzen with 55k is volumes louder than the Big House with 100k+) or just have a fargin wall of of people (the swamp, Neyland, etc).

Honestly, UGA.

Athens was okay, but I found Sanford to be good, but not great. Vandy is not really a fair answer, nor is Memphis, b/c no one expects a great atmosphere at either.

You picked the wrong year to go. The 2009 game against VT was one of the most electric college football atmospheres I've ever been a part of, which is particularly amazing since it was a smaller stadium.

They also played T-Pain at about 350 decibes every five seconds, so that might have had to do with it.

I find it hard to believe that a 10-21 matchup would be the "wrong year to go".

If they can't get excited for that game on national TV on a Thursday night, then screw em.

I've heard from just about everybody who has been to a GA Tech game that it's pretty underwhelming.

And ETN28 makes a good point; I think underwhelming game experiences are worse. If, for some reason, I ever find myself at a game at Vanderbilt, I wouldn't go in expecting some awesome experience.

Michigan Stadium

Mich State at Mich. have been in the stands twice, on the field once.

In the Stands: the seats are too narrow. Im 5'9-1/2 :) and about 200lbs. Not a big guy, not small. There was barely room for ME in my seat, but then you count all the fat behinds that were in the same row as me, and it was uncomfortable. VERY much so.

And there are a lot of fata$ses that attend uOFm games. Most of their fanbase.

The worst part is that even with 100k people, it was like sitting in a morgue. so quiet. MSU lost the two games where I was in the stands. They were very close games, and the place was quiet.

I was on the field when MSU beat um in 1984. The fans have ZERO impact on the game. You might see them going nuts in the stands, but there is no impact on the field.

Has to be an issue with how the place was built, or maybe just that the fans are not as into the game as they look on tv. But three times, it was dead.

When I went (2006 Vandy-UM), the fans were more interested in the wave. The guy next to me even said, "Watch this, now we'll do it in slow motion." And after that he said, "Now the wave goes in both directions." He was so excited that I was sure he creamed his pants when the waves collided in the student section.

Worst experience was probably at Commonwealth in lexington. Kentucky vs. Vandy, 11:00, 30 degrees spitting rain with some ice. I was hungover as hell with the beer shats and no coat. Paid 50.00 bucks for a 20.00 sweatshirt, and ate 8 polish sausages and drank 10 mountain dews. Have no clue what the final score was.

It's fine. It's fun. It's cute, even, in a bless-their-hearts kind of way. It's surrounded by the Atlanta skyline so it's even moderately spectacular at night. It's incredibly easy getting in and out. It just doesn't compare to what you're used to if you're used to a Genuine Giant Football School, is all.

I will not be going back to a night game in November, though. No freaking way. I want Tech to win, but I don't care enough to sit there in the wind when it's 40 degrees outside. I watched the fourth quarter last Thursday from a bar next to the subway station.

40 degrees out? It's topping out at that here and I'm still wearing shorts out. :)

My sister came right down to GA Tech and Purdue, ended up staying in Indiana.

If you'd wear shorts to a 40 degree night game when you were going to be sitting in a stiff wind in the upper deck, then all due respect to your giant clanging balls. I drank two hot chocolates and then decided to get the hell back to humanity after three quarters. I forgot to double-sock it and my feet were frozen.

It's 45 out right now and the rain is blowing sideways, just went out and gardened for a couple hours in cargo shorts, boots, and a windbreaker. I snowboard in a t-shirt pretty regularly (good motivation to keep you from falling, that's for damn sure). I'm just a cold weather person.

Conversely, any time it gets north of 85, I've got to get in numerous applications of deodorant and gold bond powder a day.

I'm pretty sure that could fit for 2,4,6,8,or 10 years ago. That is usually one crappy game.

1981 in Commonwealth Stadium....Temps were in the low 30s with ice on the seats...It had snowed the night before and the wind was swirling around and it was wet and cold and miserable...UT took a 10-0 lead and the bottom fell out an We ended up losing 21-10....I hate Kentucky

Speaking of UK and cold, remember when they iced their field for the Tennessee game a few years ago. It almost worked.

Hate the Wildcats

I don't know how any game at Vandy can be a disappointing atmosphere. What did you expect??

Honestly, I will say any day game at Ohio State. I've been to a couple and I'm always underwhelmed.

the shoe is overrated. doesn't get nearly as loud as a stadium of that size should. the only thing I like about it is the mustard they have at the concession stand. That stuff is awesome.
