Just wondered what it's like being in the stands for a UT Bama game, at home or on the road?

It it a hostile atmosphere with violence, or is it quite a respectful environment for fans?

Reason I ask is I really want to see us play Bama either next year or 2015 live, but I don't want to go if it isn't a pleasant game to attend.... Especially at Tuscaloosa.....

Lol...tuscalooser is the worst place in the world to go watch a game. With the worst potty mouthed, inbred, redneck fans in the world. If we beat them in tuscalooser, look for their jail to be full by the end of the night. GoVols

For the most part bama fans are respectful, you'll get a little taunting from both sides as the game plays out. Just stay away from the students and you'll be fine. Florida fans are the most disrespectful scum of the SEC (see piss bombs) UGA fans are just arrogant. But for the most part bammers aren't horrible, band wagoners are the worst bammers

At Tucksersloooza any guy/girl combination you see wearing bummer gear is a cousin/cousin or brother/sister or brother/brother combo. Any of these in bummer gear in Knoxville is the same thing.

Go next year in Knoxville. It will be beautiful that time of year and will be the perfect time for your first trip to Neyland.

I seriously hope I can make the trip!

I've been to Tuscaloosa a few times and its always been a great trip. Bad experiences are probably very isolated - things that could happen anywhere.

But why go there if you could go to Neyland instead?

I've never been to a heated "football" match, but college football atmospheres are generally very good natured and fun. I feel like pro sport events can sometimes get dicey.

I attended the contest when bama still played some of their home games at Legion Field in Birmingham. You will be fine unless you pass out on the sidewalk. If that happens expect to be teabagged and/or poisoned.:)

Going to Florida in the September heat is miserable every single time. I've always liked Tuscaloosa though.

I agree, the heat is the worst thing. I have been to the Swamp 3 times and never had a issue with fans. I was welcomed by neighboring gator tailgaters and had a good time other then us loosing.

No issues T Town other a couple of drunk guys before the game at dreamland BBQ wanting to start crap but several bama fans got all in their crap about being dumba$$'s and they chilled out and even apologized before we left.

- Probably the alcohol. It's one thing to slip in a flask but when alcohol is available for everybody, ppl start getting out of hand when the game gets close. That's typically when somebody gets out of line.

Most college events are pretty easy going. Like it was said earlier, stay away from the students and the drunks (unless they are nice drunks offering to share) and you'll be fine at Tusc or Knoxville.

Go to Neyland if it's your first game though. Nothing beats that experience in late October

Been to tuscaloosa many times. I've never had a problem outside the stadium. I'd strongly advise sitting in the Tennessee section.

I sit in YY7 at Neyland each and every home Saturday in the fall, because the majority up there are older folks it is a pretty chill environment. However, there are a couple of people every year that want to fight with opposing fans. Only two fans I've ever seen nearly actually throw the that first punch was against Georgia and Alabama. Georgia guy deserved it. (He was wearing a black polo, white shorts, and had a red sweater tied around his neck at a college football game. He needed his ass kicked.) The fans 30+ years old can truly remember the glory days of the rivalry and have that hatred for Alabama that warrants a fight. The reason that it seems like its those two is because those two fans were the only two ballsy (or stupid or arrogant) enough to act like an idiot. Moral of the story, it depends on the fans and the section. It can be a great environment, but it can turn south in a hurry if you get in with a bad crowd. Either way, I'd go to Neyland over Bryant-Deny any day.

Avoid the swamp.

My two worst away game experiences occurred in Fla, and one was a bowl game not even vs. the gators.

Fla police (at stadium events, at least) should get the death penalty [NCAA] for lack of institutional control.

Rivalry games in the SEC are like no other sporting event - way better than anything in the NFL, NBA or MLB. The fans are passionate and the atmosphere is intense. If the game is close either way, you will be in awe of the experience. I believe the horror stories of opposing fans at other stadiums are blown WAY out of proportion. I've been to road games in Athens, Birmingham, Tuscaloosa, and for the first time this year, I went to the Swamp. I had a great time at all of them, save for Legion Field in Birmingham which truly was a dump, but we still killed them (1997) so it wasn't so bad. Whether you go to Knoxville next year or Tuscaloosa in 2015, I guarantee you will have an awesome time and a trip you will remember for the rest of your life. If given the choice, go to the game in Knoxville - we have the best stadium, the best tailgating and the best women in all of college football.

I never had any problems with the bandwagon Bammers here in TN, but FL fans no matter if it's home or away are the worst. So many people think Bama is our biggest rival because they have been so good as of late, but I seek great pleasure in beating the gators more then anyone. Once Saban retires Bama will rightfully go back to the middle of the pack in the SEC where they belong, and Tennessee will then gain a few 1000 Bama bandwagon fans who will portray their loyalty to the VOLS even though we all saw them with the Bama hat on just a year ago.

I don't think people think Alabama is our biggest rival just because they have been so good LATELY, I would think it's because they've been our biggest rival since we started playing football in Knoxville. The Gators have only really been a rival since Spurrier went there in 1990.

I have never had much problem in Tuscaloosa. For the most part, the folks in Alabama are pretty good hosts. There is always an a-hole or two in the crowd, but that could be the case anywhere you go. If you do go to Tuscaloosa, be sure to go to Dreamland for ribs before the game. I have been to rib restaurants all across the USA, but I would drive four hours to Tuscaloosa just to eat at Dreamland.

My experience at Alabama has been pretty good. Most fans are respectful if you are respectful but there is always a jerk out there. I remember cheering once and a guy about 8 people over standing up and looking at me with some wild eyes and pure hatred. You would have thought I had killed his momma or something. I thought, dude you need to get a life. I will say that out of all the fan bases I've been around, I usually have been treated worse by Georgia fans more than the others. This last time at Neyland the younger dawg fans were fine but I really wanted to punch a couple of the old dudes and their disrespectful wives.
