What is ur top 3 Vol plays?

1. Jason Witten out running the entire Michigan secondary in a 2001 Citrus blowout.
2. E.Westmoreland almost decapitating a Vandy Runningback on a screen pass in 98. (40-0)
3. Of course the Arkansas fumble, followed by "The Drive" by Travis Henry! The man wasnt going to be stopped until he put it in the checkerboards!

There are a ton of great plays in UT history BUT... every list should include the Arkansas Fumble and "The Drive." That was unbelievable. As soon as Arkansas put the ball on the ground that game was over.

No fumble and "The Drive" and we could be talking about Arkansas as the 1998 National Champions... Scary Thought.

I know we lost, but the 95 yd INT return for TD when Berry picked off Teblow. Hate Tebow so I loved every second of that, especially when Tebow was the only one who could stop him and Eric broke his ankles clean in half!! GBO!!!

45-3 was actually 1990. I believe the game you're talking about is '92. That score was 31-14 if I recall correctly.

Correct. Both were memorable but the 1990 game was more enjoyable, simply for the pure joy of beating the everloving excrement out of Spurrier's first Florida team. In that respect, it ranks right up there with beating Florida, 38-7, in 1970, the first season after Dickey returned to his alma mater.

In 1990, we led only 7-3 at halftime, then Dale Carter broke the game open with a 90-yd. kickoff return for a touchdown. That game also featured one of the most beautiful passes I have ever seen, an incredibly tight spiral that hit the receiver in stride, deep for a Tennessee touchdown. It was a pass thrown off of a reverse by tight end Von Reeves. See Packer: Pass put Reeves in UT history : govolsxtra.com

I can't possibly limit to 3, but here goes just as the pop into my head:

1. Peyton Manning to Joey Kent on opening play vs Alabama
2. Dale Jone's intercepted lateral vs 'Bama in '85.
3. Dale Carter 2nd half kickoff return vs Florida in '90 (igniting 45-3 romp)
4. Condredge Holloway run to tie UCLA in early 70s. (71 or 71, I think)
5. Jeff Powell TD run vs Miami in Orange Bowl
6. Defensive stop of Larry Csonka on the goal line vs Syracuse in '66 Gator Bowl
7. Larry Seivers catch for 2 point conversion to tie Clemson in late 60s.
8. Dwayne Goodrich pick 6 in BSC championship game.
9. Screen pass to Aaron Hayden to take the lead vs Notre Dame
10. Cordarelle Patterson end around vs NC State

Oh, and how could I have forgotten Deon Grant's interception vs Fla?

Very good list. In honor of no. 6, I would also submit Bill Duff's goal-line stop of Heisman Trophy-winner Eddie George in the 1996 Citrus Bowl and the legendary goal-line stop of Billy Cannon in 1959, which ended LSU's 19-game winning streak and gave us a 14-13 victory.

With respect to No. 7, that play occurred in 1974 and gave us a 29-28 margin of victory (see Tennessee Historical Scores). I was there as a freshman that year and it remains one of the most incredibly athletic plays that I have ever witnessed, one made by Condredge Holloway and Larry Sievers. Condredge retreated and reversed field back to the 19 yard line before heaving the ball deep into the back of the endzone, just as he was going down. Larry made a tremendous leaping catch to give us the victory.

Amazing that it took 18 posts for this play to be mentioned again.

Another worthy nominee would be Condredge Holloway's extraordinary run against Georgia Tech in 1973, one in which it is alleged that he eluded or broke tackles from every player on Ga. Tech's defense. Condredge displayed great elusiveness and surprising strength. He dragged the first defender for 3-4 yds. before breaking free and later ran over another defensive back. Such great memories...

Not counting the entire 1998 season,

#1) Mike Terry's interception of Walter Lewis in the end zone with 17 seconds left in the game to seal the 35-28 victory which broke our 11-game losing streak to the Tide. I was a student then and we shut down Cumberland Avenue and carried the goal posts up and down The Strip.

1. Dale Jone's tip and interception of Shula in '85
2. Screen to T. Stephens against UGA in 2001..I know we lost, but that was the LOUDEST I've ever hear Neyland
3. 4th Down reverse to D. Tinsley against Miami. Gutsiest call P. Fulmer ever made..

GO VOLS! :salute:

Manning to Kent on the first play of the Bama games is still one of my favorites.

That '03 Miami game was a throwback to an era when defense and special teams were of paramount importance. Check out this magnificent 56-yd. punt (roughly 50:00 mark) which Dustin Colquitt launched into the wind, which pinched the returner right against his sideline and forced him to fumble, thus securing the final victory:

I think my greatest moment as a Vol was when Fla missed their FG try in OT in 1998. 2nd would be Wilhoits FG to beat Fla in '04 & #3 would be stumble fumble crumble vs Ark in '98! SO many great UT plays thru the years!!

In the 1995 Alabama game when Peyton Manning threw to Joey Kent would have to be up there, but my dad and I still love the fake hand off Peyton did to walk into the end zone in that game. When I saw those plays I knew Tennessee wasn't going to lose that night.

Tee Martin to Peerless in the NC game

Missed FG by Florida's kicker in OT in the 98 game.

You all covered the best ones. But recently, watching CP run, zigzagging and juking 10 or more players every other game was awesome.

It wasn't a play per se, but this event was illustrative of just how thoroughly we dominated Alabama in the 1969 game, one in which we led 34-0 before 'bama added a couple of late touchdowns for cosmetic effect:

"Tennessee linebacker Steve Kiner chastised Alabama players for not playing better for Bear Bryant in the 1969 game at Legion Field. Former Tennessee assistant coach Bob Davis was there on the sidelines when it happened. Tennessee was ahead 34-0, and coach Doug Dickey was getting his first-line defenders out of the game.

"They had a play that ended right in front of us," Davis said. "Before he came to the bench, Kiner screamed at the Alabama players. He pointed to Coach Bryant and said, 'Look over there at that poor old man. He looks pitiful. Can you see him? You've let him down. You should be ashamed of yourselves.' " Tom Mattingly: SEC talk not for the faint of heart » GoVolsXtra

Other accounts also allege that Kiner added as a final stinging remark: "There was a time when those crimson jersies meant something."

Three plays from Tennessee football history made ESPN’s List of 100 plays, performances and moments that defined college football:

Clint Stoerner’s fumble, which was described as the “Hand of God,” was ranked 75th. ESPN.com - NCAA College Football - The 100

Gene McEver’s 98-yard touchdown on the opening kickoff of the 1928 Alabama game, which propelled Tennessee to a 15-13 victory, put the Big Orange on the college football map. This play is ranked 70th. ESPN.com - NCAA College Football - The 100

Unfortunately, Herschel Walker’s touchdown run in which he ran over Bill Bates is listed 36th. ESPN.com - NCAA College Football - The 100
