I'm concerned that with the recent trend and decline in the Tennessee program that we will all become used to losing. I'm already getting to where I watch the games and then if we lose I just shrug my shoulders and watch something else. I don't feel the excitement and electricity when I walk into that stadium any more. It's not a magical place like it was when I was 10 years old and everything was incredibly big and it was a grand spectacle. Is anyone else suffering from the same concern? I don't want to feel this way. It's going to end up not being fun anymore. It's not just me, either. I see people at work and they just say "what do you expect" after we lose and on Friday's people say "you going over there to watch us get beat tommorrow?" It's just all different these days. I won't go on and on.....What do you all think?

I know what you mean, Jmxvol, but this has been a turmoil-ridden season, and I think that's what I'm most tired of.

I know hearing any hound cry still reminds me of Smokey, and the REAL "Rocky Top" (the Osbornes, not the PoS, god love 'em) still gives me chills, and I still think we might magically pull a whipping out of the hat no matter who we're playing. Maybe I'm just goofy.

yeah, i still love them with a passion, but i am getting that funny sense to.

they boosters and the alums wont let this losing crap keep going though. they will make moves and changes. nothing to worry about i think. this is a top notch program having a bad year, after fulmer has let off field stuff and no motivation or discipline build up for a few years.

Sadly, that is exactly how I felt last Saturday. :disappointed:

I know exactly how you feel.It sad when someone asks me what's wrong with Tennessee & I don't have the answers. And living in southwest Virginia is tough because there is only a few UT fans. Some of you probably have to deal with Virginia Tech fans who think their team is the greatest thing that walked the Earth just for beating the University of Mississippi for the Deaf and the Blind(lol).

Well I have been through a lot of the ups and downs having followed Vol football since 1951. That includes two good seasons with the General in 51 and 52 followed shortly by a miserable season under Harvey Robinson in 54 (4-6). Then in 56 Bowden Wyatt and Johnny Majors led us back to the top echelon (10-1). Then another slide to 4-6 in 58. That was the year I saw the Vols fail to get a single first down against Auburn. Not manygames were televised then but this was on national tv... and the Vols never stretched the chains..Talk about no offense this year... at least we got a first down in every game. Not sure anything was worse than that 58 season where we even lost to the University of Chattanooga. Then we played mediocre football for the next 8 years with 4-6, 5-5, 6-4 type seasons. Finally in 66 Doug Dickey gave us some 8 and 9 win seasons. The early 70's saw some 10 win seasons with Bill Battle using Dickey's recruits. Another slide started about 74 and continued through the early 80's with Battle and Majors until Majors finally gave us a few 9 and 10 win seasons (mixed with some 5 & 7 win seasons) starting about 85. But somewhere mixed in there was an 11 year stetch we didn't beat Alabama. The 90's with majors and Fulmer were sprinkled with 8, 9, 10, 11 and 13 win seasons. So I have seen many downs. In answer to your question the losing hurts me just as much. I give you this scenario: If we were 1-9 heading to our 10th game against USC, I would be expecting a win. I never liked Johnny Majors but he had a saying: "We don't fight any windmills". He claimed to expect to win every game but history shows Alabama was his "windmill". No Vol fan will be happy with less than 10 wins but it is going to happen occasionally... let's just hope we can right the ship before it is a prolonged losing stretch.

I'm just tired of all the losing, bitching, whining, excuse making, and finger pointing from everyone. I mean everyone, from us fans to the players to the coaches, etc.

I'm just over it right now. I never thought I would hope that a season would end, but I wish this one was long gone, and it was August 2006 right now.

I feel just like the rest of you guys. No point being depressed over another loss when the season is a failure. Hope it goes better next year.

ive felt that way to an extent jmx. but its just natural. i went through the same thing in ut's 2002 season. a loss hurts more if it happens during a 10 win season. im not real happy with any loss. im just sayin i think it feels this way because we almost dont have anything to play for except a bowl. aside from that nothing is at stake it seems. just my :twocents:

Whoever we do end up playing IF we make a bowl game (we will) is gonna take a serious rear kicking!!! We have struggled on offense and lost to quality opponents, but we are too good to end up against a team that doesn't deserve to be on the field with us.

I think Louisville would make a good bowl game for us.

When your best friend from college (UT) calls you up to see if you want to go to the park instead of watching the game (Notre Dame) you know we are in trouble. When is the special teams coach getting canned?

Well said, my thoughts exactly. I'm not for mediocrity, but all teams have down years. The Vols will climb back to the top.

GO BIG ORANGE

All those people that ask you why you are going to watch them lose can suck it. They are the same ones that ask you for tickets when we are winning so make sure to get a few extra while they are cheap and price gouge the hell out of them next year. As for dealing with losses, it is just part of being a true fan. Hang in there and things will turn. I am still looking foward to this week's game and the games to come. I haven't been around since the 50's but I sure do remember 88 (oof) and what a great year 89 was.

I also agree with what others have said... I just shrug my shoulders at another loss at this point and say "well, next year..." Also agree with duckman in that a loss hurts worse in a 10 win season than a, well, 3 win season...

I agree with the general sentiment here that life will continue... we can all hope for better years to come...still a Vol fan for life, etc. etc. etc.

Nonetheless, I feel a bit like I rolled into the car lot, bought a used, but hot, Ferrari and got it home to find out that my new car was a Buick LeSabre. Oh, by the way, the used car salesman happened to be named Filip Phulmer.

Will the last three games even be televised? I am sure not going to PPV to see us play (and maybe lose to) the dregs. Showing up at a sports bar with satellite will only invite the taunts of fans of other teams if you dare to support the Big Orange. Face it, our team sucks. We have been closeted. Anyone who still wears their orange in public on Saturdays is a blind homer who is encouraging the further mediocrity of the program by supporting a LOSER! I encourage everyone to go outdoors, get some fresh air, and find something else to do on the weekends for the rest of the year. IF we are still undefeated after the UF game next year I will "come out" as a Vol fan again.

Just kidding. GO VOLS! :nener:
