What is your attitude about Vol Football?

i think sometimes in order to go forward one must take a few steps backwards and i think this year even though it is a disappointment will make ut stronger next year. For one thing we will have a new OC which we've needed for a couple of years and maybe phil will be more in control with his players next season with a fire underneath them. A good OC could help our recriuting as well.

There's some validity to that statement...it's just so hard to win every year. we all have expectations each year, and that's a good thing, and when we don't meet those expectations, it sucks, especially during the season when everthing this right in your face and immediate. It's usually only after the year is gone you can look back and really appreciate the season before, with the exception of this year!

Like 2001...had the NC game in our grasp and lost the SEC CG...man that sucked, but looking back on it now, here's what we did:

We beat LSU, Alabama, Notre Dame, Florida @ UF, and it was Spurriers last game on senior night at the swamp to boot!!, and Killed Mich in a new year's day bowl. Not too shabby. And if I didn't know what year it was, that could be a NC worthy accomplishment...

2003...we tore Bama's heart out in a 5 OT thriller..and anyone that's been a Vol for more than 10 years knows how many of those types of games Bama won over us...that felt GOOOOOD. We beat Miami at Miami ending a 26 game home win streak, and we finally KILLED UF...beat 'em up and down the field...

So it's really not all bad, it just sucks because of the present day situation...and this year just points out a lot of the flaws we have all seen and complained about for the past several years...but this year there's no place to hide, no landmak win to hang your hat on, you could say LSU, but the loss to USC for me negates that...the failures are SOOO evident now.

Style points matter in CFB. a win is a win is a win doesn't apply here, and it sucks. winning ugly is as bad as losing close. And that's just wrong.

True test coming for Phil and Co. over the next 18 months. If we continue down the same road, then we can call the dogs on 'em... :gun:

The true test for CPF is actually only weeks away. To use your verbage, CPF has an opportunity to be proactive rather than reactive with his hires. Lets see what happpens.

I think Fulmer and company will be a little more reserved in giving lofty expectations in the future. I do not think there will be any more preseason talk about the SEC-CG and the BCS games ever again. They should take one game at a time.

Well, i was inlcuding the next few weeks in that 18 months...my point was he's not going to be in serious trouble this year even he does lose one of these games coming up....but rather, if we continue down the same path thru next year, then he could seriously be in some hot water.

He has three things going against him/for him depending on how you look at things:
1. New OC hire will be huge...either its a great hire and we get better quickly, or it's a flop and we see same/worse results
2. Lose one of the next 3 games and you will have a target on your back. Upside, is that you would have no where to go but up.
3. Next year. There's always next year. If we come out and win 9 or more games next year, great! Everybody's happy unitl another 05 rolls around. If we come out and there is a bunch of indecision, lack of performance, lack of discipline on/off the feild, then it could be spelling the end of the Fulmer era.

That's why the next 18 months will be VERY interesting for him...
