Have you seen what ESPN shells out for the World Cup TV rights?

Soccer has the 3rd largest crowd average in the USA behind the NFL and NBA

Reading comprehension. In America, the World Cup isn't the number one sporting event. If you're considering the entire world, the World Cup is number one (in terms of pure passion from the players and fans), and I really don't even know if that's debatable.

Reading comprehension. I said US. That's the United States. Where I assume most of us live. I don't care what sport is most popular in other countries.

You can try & spin it all you want. In the USA soccer is a 2nd tier sport. If I was in a bar drinking I could watch anything. It's right there with hockey.

It's not as popular as football, basketball, or baseball. However, even in America, the World Cup is considerably more popular than a lot of the events listed in the poll.

Perhaps but it's one event or tournament or however you wanna look at it that involves the world. Soccer as a professional sport in the US with their own league is on par with the WNBA. There's single golf events & other single sporting events that are more popular than the world cup & Stanley cup in the US.

The Masters and a few other single events may get a lot of attention, but I'd say the World Cup generates more excitement when it comes around. When the USA is good enough to really be a competitor in the next 20 years or so, the World Cup will be a far more popular event.
