IF the US becomes more competitive in soccer it may become more popular but nowhere near the top still

The US will become more competitive and while soccer obviously won't catch football in popularity, I have no doubt the World Cup final would draw incredible ratings if/when the US makes it.

That's a hypothetical IF. I don't think the US will ever be as great as some of the other countries simply because the best athletes in the US play better/ *cough cough* other sports.

Perhaps but it's one event or tournament or however you wanna look at it that involves the world. Soccer as a professional sport in the US with their own league is on par with the WNBA. There's single golf events & other single sporting events that are more popular than the world cup & Stanley cup in the US.

Go to a Seattle Sounders game sometime.

Ah. Well, obviously they are an MLS squad. They bring in 30-35,000 fans per home game. Great atmosphere. The majority of MLS teams average 14-16,000 per game. Not huge numbers, but compared to the WNBA (about 7,000 per game), I'd say it's a big step up.

2010 was the first time I actually sat down and watched the World Cup on a consistent basis and it ended up being one of the most entertaining sporting events that i've watched the past few years. I had always kind of kept up with how the U.S did in international play, but the tournament made me a much bigger fan of not only the national team, but of soccer in general.

I would rank it right up there with The Masters, The Super Bowl, and the NCAA Tournament.

You can be serious with that last sentence.

Sorry to dissapoint you.

I guess this is the part where you paint my opinion for being wrong like you do to all those in the iPhone vs. Droid thread that you troll. Well, go ahead I suppose. Do what you must.

Not trolling on either. I guess if you're entertained by a boring 90 minute game & like inferior plastic phone that's fine.

Just don't see the need in slamming some else's views if they differ from yours. You blatantly do it in every single thread where someone doesn't agree with your own superiority complexed opinion.

In World Cup/Soccer they fall down and act like they are permanently injured 3 or 4 times a game trying to get a player carded. There is very little contact. Anyone who has watched professional football, seems weak.

Sounds pretty damn similar to what basketball is these days.

Stanley Cup gets my vote...

there is significantly less flopping in the World Cup than professional soccer in the EPL and La Liga

This is my favorite:

I can just imagine Jason Smith thinking to himself "I'll give you something to flop about" just before the hit. :)
