What Other Message Boards are Saying-Post Signing Day (Florida)

Pruitt landed 6 of the top 10 in state this year. Of the 4 who went elsewhere, the only one he wanted was Jay Hardy. He did not want Grimes, Tucker, or Darrin Turner. Everyone here knows that. I understand if you Fl fans don’t because why would you?

But, Mehlen landed 1 of the top 10 in Fl. How many of the other 9 that went to Clemson, Ga and elsewhere did he want? I honestly don’t know, but I have a hard time believing he didn’t want all of them. That’s the difference.

Saying Pruitt only landed so many of the top 40 in TN means nothing when he didn’t want 80% of those guys. Mehlen wanted a lot more than 10 of the top 50 in Fl, I would guarantee that.

But regardless, Mehlen will recruit fine at Fl because of so much talent. He would not recruit well at Tn. That is the only argument anyone has made.
Exactly..the guy is ignorant, and idiot for saying something he don't know 💩 about.

It’s hilarious that none of these gator fans understand the argument. It isn’t that Mehlen won’t recruit fine at fl. He will. Because he can miss the majority of top guys and still land a top class because of so much in state talent.

HE COULD NOT DO THAT IF HE WERE AT TENNESSEE.

If you’re not responding to that argument then you are wasting your breath and showing the tiny size of your IQ

Never been the argument any of us are making. But if you think it’s not a bad sign that your top signee bolted and blamed the coaching staff before playing 1 game, I don’t know what to tell you.
o

Are you referring to Chris Steele? He never played 1 game and he never blamed the coaching staff. He played zero games, he left after being dominated and embarrassed for an entire spring. He learned quickly that playing CB v Van Jefferson, Tre Grimes, Swain, Toney, etc wasn’t exactly what he maybe had dreamed about. He’s from California, and aside from getting dominated, he was homesick as hell. So he left, and then tried to blame it on his roommate and that he had asked the coaches for a new roommate, despite his social media life which showed he and his roommate were having the time of their lives and best of buds.

Also, Chris Steele was 2019’s version of Zach Evans. Committed to Oregon, decommited, committed to USC, decommitted, committed to Florida. Spent a spring at Florida, announced he’s transferring to Oregon. Visits Oregon, spends a week on campus, commits to Oregon. A week later, decommits Oregon and commits/enrolls at USC. Had a very average freshman season at USC.

But go on about how Florida and Mullen were the problems in Steele’s life.

Y’all are getting repetitive now. Mullen got 11 of the top 54 from Florida, 16 of the top 100. That’s great news for UF fans.

And nobody has any possible way of knowing how Mullen would have done recruiting at Tennessee. Out of our entire discussions and conversations in this thread, THAT statement is the one that can’t at all be supported by any facts, only guessing and speculation.

Personally, I think Mullen would at least match what Pruitt did in Tennessee. There’s nothing special about missing 4 of the top 10 and 8 of the top 15 in the state

Enjoyed the banter, everyone.

Checking out for a few hours, my wife is on my case worse than Butchna about having “my nose in my phone all morning.”

Enjoy your day.

The only reason the 2019 class was brought up was my making the point that since that happened to you last year, it could again this year, and thus we should wait and see if everyone actually arrives at Fl. But carry on with whatever narrative you want to respond to

The narrative is clear.

Pruitt is a better recruiter than Mullen, and Tennessee will own the Gators for years to come.

You’re acting like we both aren’t on the same page.

His Dad is sick I believe. Dad or Mom, but someone in family is not doing well at all and his hometown is much closer to Gainesville than Miami.

Aside from that, he had a knee injury at Miami and became increasingly unhappy there through that process and the fact that Miami’s season was was in total disarray.

Thanks

It wasn’t 6 or 7, it was 5, and two of those 5 are set to return to UF. And those 5 were offset by transfers in. So your “17th” is wishful thinking. You can’t just re-rank UF and only UF. Teams in front of and behind UF also lost recruits to grades, transfer, discipline, injury, etc. So your “17th” is nonsense. But hey, whatever makes you feel better.
I know what would make me feel better.. Bye

Dense isn’t a strong enough word

I know right?

I’m not even trying to argue with you..or anyone else here for that matter...yet here you are.

I was responding to Jaws, and you couldn’t help yourself.

And I acknowledged your premise that Mullen is a better fit at UF versus UT.

Dense indeed...you get major credit for being self-aware.

I understand your argument, but I think it's flawed. Mullen is not doing any worse than most any other coach who has been at Florida as a recruiter with the exception of Urban.

Signing 10 out of the state's top 50 is a "normal" number and was normal even for Urban.

I can pull out a recruiting class from the past and show how that is common.

The premise you are making is that he's doing a terrible job, but is bailed out because he's at Florida. The reality is he's doing the same as everyone else as a recruiter except Urban and that includes Spurrier.

I thought we covered that near the end of Page 3.

We mutually agreed that Mullen at UF and Pruitt at UT was the best case scenario for both schools, and everyone is pleased with the current situation.

Urban and Spurrier weren't striking out in the top 10 in state recruits.

Yes, I agree with that. I’m pretty sure I said that in an earlier post. UF’s current 2020 class is an example of that. Two players, Manuel and Britt, are currently committed but not signed. UF is presumably waiting on test scores. It’s my understanding these two are NOT included in UF’s current 2020 Rivals ranking. So same would apply to UT and all others.

I see your point, I’ll have to go back and re-read but if said the unsigned players were counted in to the rankings then I was wrong. That means my accuracy rating falls to 99.7%. I’ll do better.
Hold you to it. More of this and I won’t give you grief. No problem with fans being fans. The conversation about Manuel and Britt was concerning how them possibly NOT being added to your class would allow us to overtake you. Zach Evans is another unknown because wherever he enrolls is going to jump up a spot or two.

Maybe so, but that isn't the argument I'm making. The point is, Mehlen is an average recruiter, and he can be an average recruiter in Florida because there are 50 4 star or higher ranked players in that state. So he can only land 1 top 10 player from the state, 2 of the top 15, and only 4 of the top 20, and still sign 17 in state players and end up with the 8th ranked class in the country.

In the state of TN there are only 11 4 stars. And judging by Pruitt's decisions and the fact that one of them went to Arkansas and the other dropped to a low 3 star on 247's own rankings, some of them are even overrated. So he would not have the type of in state talent to build up his class that he does at Florida.

I do not believe that he would be recruiting nationally on the level that Pruitt is. There is no way, imo, that Mullen would have landed Crouch, Wright, Henry To, Wanya, Ramel, Harrison Bailey, Malachi Wideman, Morven Joseph (especially since he didn't land those two in state) or many of the other top guys out of state.

To recruit at a high level at TN you have to recruit nationally for the majority of your class most years. This year, we will have to land big time players from NC, Virginia, GA, and other places like that if we are going to finish with a nice class. There are only about 3 guys, that we know of, that Pruitt even wants in state. I do not believe that Mehlen could recruit like that nationally. Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't believe that I am, especially when he is losing so much talent right in his back yard. Morven Joseph is a prime example of that as are his terrible ESD and NSD's that he had this past year.

Even when I look at the national talent that Mehlen got this year, he beat out VT and NC for Antwaun Powell, he beat out KY for Lamar Goods, looks like Baylor, with their new coach, for Princely, and, tbh, I highly doubt that Jalen Lee was a take for LSU or he'd be there. Now, tbf, he also beat some good teams for Torrence, he beat us straight up for McDaniel (although I can't understand Mordecai's decision but I digress), but it seems like a lot of those guys he got that were national guys, the competition for them wasn't exactly elite.

Compare Pruitt: He beat out Alabama for Henry, AU for Wanya and Keyton, GA and Alabama for Wright, Clemson and Michigan for Crouch, FSU and Florida for Morven, Florida for Beckwith, FSU, Oregon, and Ole Miss for Wideman (Fl too?) as well as a couple of others. I don't see Mehlen winning those battles if he is at TN. That's my opinion, and the fact that GA and Clemson landed more of the top 10 players in Fl than Mehlen did, and his horrible closing on ESD and NSD, seems to give evidence of that to me.

The reality is he's doing the same as everyone else as a recruiter except Urban and that includes Spurrier.
This has been my point about him the whole time.

He's not necessarily recruiting good or bad.

Some of it is just organic because he's at Florida... Not necessarily because he's awesome at recruiting....

Florida should pull top 10-15 classes "just because"...

You get top 5 classes because of the recruiter.... Which is why some Florida fans aren't thrilled with the closing efforts..

Dense isn’t a strong enough word

I think they understand.

They're just using 1 of the oldest tactics in debate - when the intended point hurts your argument, paint it as something else. Something easier to make an argument against. Use lots of words to debunk the point that never existed in the 1st place.

Innovative stuff.

What gets me about the state of Tennessee is how many are leaving. Pruitt only singed 9 of the top 40, he allowed 8 of the top 15 to get away and 21 of the top 40 to get away.

That’s got to sting.

It doesn’t. Our level of HS football is improving year by year but the talent pool is about 5-6ft deep right now. Y’all don’t apparently get that. We have about 5-7 great players per year in state. I honestly don’t care so much about keeping in-state talent except for those elite ones I mentioned. Florida hands out 5* players like Oprah giving away cars. Everyone gets one. Not so in TN and it’s been like that as long as I can remember.

He's comparing TN, that had 11 4 stars, to Fl that had over 50 lololol! Dense indeed.

Chris Morris and Jay Hardy. TWO that were top priorities that Pruitt didn’t net. Smaller pool of course and Mullen needed to miss on a much larger number of in-states to qualify as a negative...and he did. I’ll admit he’s better at recruiting than I projected and puts the work in...but not at a SEC HC closing level.

actually, AP said that we could’ve gotten Morris late, but decided not to pursue him due to personality and fit issues. So really, Hardy.

Yeah, he isn’t recruiting bad at Fl, and better than I thought it would. But he’s at Florida

Winning is the best recruiting tool. If Pruitt keeps winning, his ability to recruit will take us further than we’ve been since Fulmer. And sadly, the same goes for Mullen. If he keeps winning, he won’t have to be a great recruiter. Just be good enough and they will enjoy the fruits of all the talent in that nasty A$$ state. 😒 I hated the idea of him coming here for the very reason that we needed to upgrade our roster and our culture immediately and I didn’t believe he had the ability to do it. He’s a weirdo and his wife is the team whore, but all things being equal, if he was winning here and going 10-2 and winning NY6 games in his second year, his recruiting here would’ve be fine.
That's what we are saying. With where our program was he would not have been able to get to 10-2 here before he was fired because we would not have been patient and because he would not have been able to recruit well before turning it around. The roster at FL was good enough, and recruiting at FL is easy. And he is still not doing as well as he should be if you don't count the transfers.

I wanted Mullen for our HC because I knew he was a damn good coach that could get us back to 9-10 wins nearly every year. I thought it would be good stability and eventually we could land a guy that would take us to the next level. I never thought Mullen had it in him to win a National championship though. He just doesn't and he never will unless like that one UF fan said, everything goes their way in a season. I hate that UF hired him, he's going to be a thorn in the side as long as he's there, but he's not exactly an elite coach. Just a very good one. So he's beatable and we will eventually do so.

That future will probably/may not have arrived in time to take you guys out...I hate this game being where it is in the schedule and I always have...would love to get you guys in Neyland in November after we have had time to develop.
I would’ve liked the FL game moved back more, but I’m happy we get UGA later. Only reason I would’ve chose for the FL game to be later is because how epic it was in ‘01!
