I neither like nor dislike Oklahoma. I was stationed there for basic training at Ft. Sill and it didn't remind me of the ultra retardation factor of other football team's fans ... including most here in the SEC. I am choosing to be cautiously optimistic about the game and hope that team 118 represents well in what is probably going to be a tough environment.

My feelings exactly

Ok I stand corrected.. It just feels like half the time our RBs are getting hit in the backfield - maybe not TFLs but pretty dang close to it. We have 2 really good backs so they're able to at least fall forward and potentially fight thru an arm tackle and get back to the LoS. I wonder what the numbers look like for % of runs that net 0-2 yd gains.

Not disagreeing that the run game is bad right now due to the poor OL play. I also don't particularly care for the slow developing handoffs that are a product of the zone read.

Btw, having sifted through the play by plays of each game, there were more than a handful of 1 and 2 yard gains with more than a few no gains sprinkled in.

South Carolina was an upset. Yea, and that's not really debatable....

Although I used the words "true underdog upset" let's call SC last year an upset. How would it compare to beating a #3-#4 ranked OK in OK? I'd put it up there with one of the upsets of the year and a true turning of the corner.

Jesus. It's just constantly. We are a very good team this year. Led by a very good qb and veteran scrappy defense. Why the hell is everyone so down on us? Just go away. We don't SUCK as much as you'd like to think

We will find out if this true Saturday.

That same south Carolina team we upset ended the year with a #4 ranking

This is complete BS IMO. They beat the hell out of Bama and it was simple as that.

You're crazy. Bama absolutely wins that game 9 of 10 times, and Bama absolutely beat themselves. Keep in mind in this game where they "beat the hell out of Bama" Bama was down 7 with the ball at the end of the game. AJ got the ball stripped from him, which was what, their 5th turnover that game?

That game was a fluke if I've ever seen one.

It's not so much that Dr. Lou is a Thoonerth fan-- he's still holding a grudge against Tenneththee for spoiling Notre Dame's NC hopes back in 1991. You can bet he's hoping for a blowout.

That game was not a fluke. While I think Bama wins a majority of those games with those 2 teams, I don't think it's 9 of 10. Oklahoma, especially that QB, just made play after play down the stretch to win the game.

Haha. I've been reading posts all day and it's hilarious how all of the sudden all our fans basically think we SUCK and are OK with it. You don't think we have any advantages? We have one of the best receiving corps in college football, a very good senior qb, and some very good veteran defensive players. If Ok had played our schedule last year they'd never be ranked no. 3! I say we win in a close one. 24-21

I don't think it is necessarily thinking that we suck, but with the o-line being as young and inexperienced as they are, and with the trouble we had against ASU with establishing a credible run game, it is going to be very hard to keep up offensive drives with passing only.

Almost always, he who rushes most wins...

People are forgetting that the Sugar Bowl was by far the best game they played last season, don't expect Trevor Knight to pull a game like that out of his ass next weekend. I think we definitely have the superior advantage with our WR and LB groups. Just hoping for a good game either way!

I'd like to see a video sunday of you yelling "Comin straight outta Compton", then go ape shiznit on @ a dozen fans like Bruce Lee.

make it happen

If he makes this happen I will drive to Norman to bail him out the next day. Straight through, no sleep, and jacked up on Erwin Tennessee's best crystal meth to keep me awake.

Dude come on. We have improved a ton but freak we are playing 30 freshman, one of our top recievers just went down as did our best TE and our O line play is at minimum lackluster. Brace for impact and let the chips fall where they may.

Here are my REALISTIC thoughts as a FAN:

1) As exciting as it was to run through the T for the first two games, it will be close to equally intimidating for this team to take their first road trip to Norman, Oklahoma. Mental toughness is going to be thrown around ALOT by Butch, and they're going to need it. OU is pumping this game, since they rarely play a SEC team (last two times they played traditional SEC teams was Bama last year, and Florida in the 2008 BCSCG). I'm sure they relish the thought of "validating" themselves against the mighty SEC once again. Oklahoma has a huge little-man complex when it comes to the SEC. Trickles down from Stoops. Point is: This is going to be a tough game from an environment standpoint.

2) Losing Pearson and most likely Wolf is bad news. I was really expecting Pearson to have a breakout game, and Wolf has played great, especially as a blocking tight end. Downs is a good blocker, and Helm will probably get some catches, but definitely loved what Ethan did the first two games. Hope both he and Pearson are back soon. Really wanted to see our WRs at full strength for this one.

3) I expect to see Oklahoma do the same thing that the two other opponents have done: Stack the box and force us to throw. With a dominant D-Line like they claim to have, they may not have to stack as much as the other teams did. We HAVE to run the ball. It's that simple: We can't run, there's no way we win. We have to be able to run the ball better than 3.3 yds a carry.

4) I think the past two weeks were confidence builders and pacemakers. They were used and game planned with the purpose of getting these freshmen and newcomers settled in a crazy environment. We didn't do anything fancy. We wanted to get our offense in a rhythm, and we wanted to get Worley comfortable. If you noticed, Worley was not asked to do anything too crazy. Just easy, game management, short throws. I think this week he is going to be asked to do a little more, and I think that he'll have the confidence to do it. I think you're going to see a lot of ball distribution this week, and I think we're going to have to really utilize the fact that their tallest CB's are 6-2'', and we have several WR's that are taller than that. If we don't develop more of a dangerous passing game, then we won't have any chance at running the ball, which as I said, we have to do to win.

5) Time of possession will be big. This offense can put up points. They're averaging 508 yards a game in under 30 minutes TOP. If the defense can keep them off of the field, we'll be in much better shape. Of course, the offense has to stay on the field. How do they do that? They need to run the ball.

6) Butch called Medley's missed field goal "unexcusable." We will need to walk away with points every single time it's possible. We've done well in the red zone, but Medley is going to have to get over the jitters quick. We need him to be money when his number is called. Coming away with points on tough drives will have to keep our momentum going.

7) Defense is going to have to maintain that swagger and intensity. This game is not at Neyland. There's no "Third Down for What" playing in the background. There's no 102,455 in Orange. Can they still play with the nastiness they've been playing with?

8) I HOPE that our DLine can apply some pressure to Knight. Would love to see us rattle him a bit. I think that our secondary can have a good game.

9) 73 players. That's the number I counted on their roster of players that are True or Redshirt Freshmen and Sophomore. They are a young team as well. Not as young as we are, but very young especially in the secondary (4 upperclassmen), QB (Knight is only a Redshirt Sophomore), and RB. They have youth everywhere. The experience however? OL and DL. That's a big difference, and likely the difference in the ballgame.

10) I think that Tennessee has a chance to win this one if the following happens:
1) We run the ball successfully. 3 yards a carry will work, but if the average is 3 yards, we're in trouble. Need some big run plays. If we can average 4-5 ypc, we'll be doing much better.
2) The OL gives Worley enough time to make the right decision. So far, Worley's decision making has been near perfect. But he has yet to face a pass rush like this one. He should have receivers open. He just needs time to get them the ball.
3) WR's need to make some splash plays. Plays like Von's 50+ catch last week, and Josh Smith's play Week 1 need to become more common. We will need plays like that to take the crowd out of the game.
4) DL will need to be disruptive. Doesn't mean they have to stop every play behind the line, or get sacks, but they do need to close holes just enough to give A.J. and Weatherd enough time to track down the RB and end his life, I mean, run.

5) In case I didn't mention it, we need to run the football.

If we can do those things, I THINK we can be in this game. They are a good football team, very talented, but very young, and IMO, very over-rated. We'll see on Saturday!

Go Big Orange!

Oh snap. I bet your dad is 10 feet tall and bench presses boomer schooners.

Sorry, that was bad phrasing on my part, I mean literally, No band would be an improvement to our band. Our band is garbage. If one thing is for certain on blowout terms, Tennessee will blowout our band at halftime.

I've never been to the site of another team for anything except to look at a roster or game film. Can't imagine signing up and posting or going thru their threads

Well, I am guilty of visiting other forums. I work the night shift quite often and things tend to slow down around here in the wee hours of the morning. I only read when I visit and never join in.

Agree 100%. Quick slants, fly sweeps, screens, WR screens, short dumps to the TEs..

Roll Worley out and give him plenty of options. If nothing's there, throw it to the sidelines and repeat.

Only way we win this game IMO.

I think the pass/run ratio should be somewhere in the neighborhood of 70/30. If we get a run for longer than 10 yds, I'll be shocked.

I wouldn't be surprised if we throw 50 times Sautrday.

Facts. Tough to dispute.

With a reply like that I figured you were new to the board. You've been here long enough to know the hierarchy of VN posts. Let me break it down for you...

Booze-addled thoughts without filter
Knee-jerk reactions
Oh My God the sky is falling
The last series didn't go for 50+ yards so we suck
Gifs
We Gonna Whip Dey Azz!!!
We won, but not by 40 points so we suck
Rational, objective posts
Rational, objective post debunkers
Random troll from another board
Facts
Fact debunkers

That is pretty much the breakdown of VN posts. Don't be surprised when posts that state facts are quickly discarded and buried.

Excellent analysis and post IMO. I agree we have to be able to run the ball, even if it's just a minimal amount. Honestly, I just don't know how the line will be able to protect Worley. Maybe a 2 back set out of the shotgun could help? We'll see.
