They are THE worst fanbase in the conference, it isn't even close. Only one nationally that might be worse is Ohio State.South Carolina fans never had anything to say back when they were essentially Vanderbilt East. That all changed when Spurrier got there and they had a couple of winning seasons. They've been a mouthy bunch ever since.
Yes. Lesser teams with A LOT less talent play press coverage. It is more about technique, scheme, and aggression than raw athleticism. You press him then give help. You think we have the DB's to press a guy like Legette? Banks will be backing off trying to keep everything in front of our guys.
Agree… Tim Banks defense has great numbers on 1st & 2nd downs…but he loves the zone on 3rd.Yes. Lesser teams with A LOT less talent play press coverage. It is more about technique, scheme, and aggression than raw athleticism. You press him then give help.
This has NEVER been about talent. From day one it has been about Banks' philosophy on how to play pass D. You can play aggressive with the same talent as you play "bend don't break". In fact it may take better athletes to give cushion in space and then close and make tackles to minimize yardage. Chavis was a good DC but 3rd and Chavis was a real thing. When he called soft coverage, teams abused him. It is similar but worse with Banks.
To your point about Leggette. In practice, most of these guys have been going up against Hyatt, Tillman, Jones, Bru, etc in practice playing press. It isn't like the skills haven't been practiced. They've won some and lost some but they can do it if given opportunity. You see that some because UT has been more effective once the field shrinks. They haven't been great between the 20s.
Blitzing and giving a 10 yd cushion is easy money for any good QB... and some that aren't that good. Giving that much even defeats good pressure with 4. You don't have to do it all the time but you have to do it often enough to keep the QB honest when you get pressure. Banks doesn't do that. He's too afraid of giving up the big play.
I’d press him and double with help on top and just take him out of the game - we should be able to get to Rattler with 4 menYou think we have the DB's to press a guy like Legette? Banks will be backing off trying to keep everything in front of our guys. He'll be hoping that our front 7 can pressure and tackle well enough to keep a game like last year from happening again. What Rattler has done with a line like SCjr bunch is really impressive. Kid can make plays with his legs as well as his arm. It's a case of pick your poison. Honestly, I don't trust our team to block and tackle well enough and consistently enough. SCjr's strength(Rattler/Legette) aligns with our defensive weaknesses (secondary and tackling). Bottom line, neither SCjr or UT are very good football teams. Comes down to one thing in my mind....they have Rattler/Legette and we don't. One potential variable we might be able to take advantage of is the home crowd, but if UT can't get off to a fast start, our crowd can be taken out of a game pretty easily. I don't have a good feeling about this one.
To be fair they beat a top 5 team with a Heisman candidate on their team. We beat a middle of the road SEC team. So I'll take their off handed compliment
USCjr is never good enough to ever be an impressive win. Beating them by 50 isn't that great. Their program sucks and is only going to get worse once Rattler leaves. It’s still pathetic because they have their same QB and we don’t. If they wanna go by all time results, their feelings will get hurt because UT owns the biggest a** whooping in this series 54-0
Enjoy the Duke’s mayo bowl. Have some egg salad for me!
I dunno mate, the Dukes Mayo Bowl may be out of their grasp this year. The SEC this year is pretty split. About half very good teams and half meh teams. The Lamecocks are pretty far down that list of meh teams. They may only be a step or two above Vandy honestly.
