What school in 2-5 years might have a Head Coach opening that Fulmer could land?

He will stay retired IMO. at least i hope so. I liked Fulmer but knew it was time for him to go. I don't want to remember him finishing up elsewhere.

It would have happened by now. Kind of tells the tale about how inept the leadership was at UT. Set on their hands and look where that got us. Also the reason they need a AD that has just a little bit of football sense. Too many signs ignored or just missed by the bean counter, it's got Tennessee where they're at today. CEO types are good for profit, seem to suck at making the right call when it needs to be made.

Judging from the hiring model for their last two coaches, South Carolina will probably be calling in a couple of years.

Have you ever seen another coach with at least 150 wins, a .750 winning percentage and a NC on his resume who can't even get a job coaching? That is the only proof needed to show he should have been canned after 2005.

It is sad that people just can't accept that no one was or has been interested in Fulmer as a coach. He doesn't have it anymore hasn't for a while.

First...The SCar line is GREAT...and probably true...:)

Second...Perhaps Phil has finally realized this...He is beginning to remind me a lot of Bobby Knight...has become self-aware in his laters years enough to realize that the young guns have passed him by.

Are you all really that retarded that you think he couldn't have gotten another HC job at a good school if he wanted it..

There were many inquiries sent to him to see if he might be interested in interviewing for a job... he told them all no because he knew he would not be able to put his heart into it because he is 100% a VFL

I find it amazing people could be soo dumb as to think no one would want a coach with a win percentage like his in the SEC and a NC ring on his finger...

please just go bang your heads against a wall for a few hours... knock some sense into your heads.

We'll check back with you after we bang our heads against a wall for a few hours. Maybe by then we'll see things your way.

Not joking. Two years hence, Phil will be coaching at either a Wyoming or Montana university.

Not joking. He has the down to earth demeanor that fits the culture there. he would attract decent level talent to make the school very competitive in their conference and certainly spark fan and a degree of media interest. They'd certainly get more attention than normal. Big fish in a small pond, perfect arrangement for him.

Not joking, it's happening within two years if not less.

he had discussion with multiple schools in the first 12-18 months. Some he declined interest in on initial phone call. a few he had interest but was not pursued.

He is definitely no longer interested in pursuing any HC job at this juncture. Enjoying his family.

I don't expect his critics to accept this and I really don't care if they do or not. But it did happen and I know they have a hard time accepting it.

That sounds reasonable. If He no longer interested in a HC job, has he terminated his relationship with his former agent, Jimmy Sexton?

If Phil wants another HC gig, I honestly hope he gets it.

Just not at UT.

I doubt that. I imagine Sexton is still involved with getting him TV deals and such.. I feel like he would lean on Jimmy for things from time to time..

Out of curiosity, do these agents charge their clients or do they charge the people who hire their clients?

the agents get a percentage of every "agreement" they make for a client. Normally its like a 3% cut... could be different now but that was cut several years ago..

so he got 3% of CPF's 6 million.. gets 3% of CDD's 1.9 million or whatever it is now

Inquiries initiated by Sextillion aret what you imply and no program wanting to compete via new coach and build program was seriously considering Fulmer. None winning would have even remotely considered it. Backwater might have been available, but that would have been utterly stupid for both parties. His coaching sucks, but he has no business stooping that low.

Thanks. Do the agents charge any 'annual fee' for the clients - to keep their names out there?

I'm not sure but I doubt they do. Especially someone like Sexton. He has so many clients making huge dollars I suspect it is not necessary. He likely sets up speaking engagments for Fulmer that he collects on as well.

Given his age and the $ he has in the bank, if I'm an AD looking around I have to figure that Fulmer just isn't going to be interested in putting in 12-14 hour days very often and that he is going to get his doors blown off by the younger coaches on the recruiting trail.

He might be better off shooting for a job in administrative position at a school out west, like a BYU or an Arizona.

Don't know if I would want to see Coach Fulmer on another teams sideline. I actually liked him on cbs college sports as one of their talking heads. Wouldn't mind seeing him still associated with Tennessee athletics. Not as AD but in some role. The man did a lot for the university and I hate that people bash him like he when did so much for it.
