What the hell Bruce?

Why is everyone so worried abour finding a suitable replacement for Pearl if he should leave/be fired? As you can see, there are 4 pages of posts here, all from successful, capable Division 1 NCAA coaches. I am sure any of them could do a much better job with their insight and experience.

coaching a big time program is over-rated, we don't have to have a big name. the belmont or the butler coach could come here and do the same thing at half the cost. unless it's coach K or someone along those lines, any coach can do what pearl is doing. don't be afraid to lose pearl, there are 20 coaches that could fill his shoes tomorrow. i've loved pearl since the get go but this season has opened my eye's to his lack of coaching ability. truly sad i like bruce. oh well, i liked wade houston, kevin o'neal, buzz petterson, jerry green, dang i'm 0-5 in coaches.

Have to admit it is hard to stick up for Pearl after that game. Missing all those threes and still jacking them up tells me the players either are not listening or they are gettin bad coaching. And it was another bad end to the game with clock management. As little as I know I yelled when they called their last time out. Not smart. No calls on blatant walks at the end of the game helps to destroy concentration too. But they just played poorly. Harris has no elevation and gets blocked too much. Hopson can't get a call inside and dribbles on his leg too much. Tatum has just disappeared for some reason. And I agree that other than Steven and Williams player development has been poor on this team. Last years players were much better developed.

I'm not so sure very many coaches would take the job after we get hammered by NCAA. Sanctions will set the basketball program back a few years. Mediocrity, here we come again.

of course you were ...

Had Pearl waited to call the timeout and we turned the ball over or got off a bad shot anyway due to poor execution, you'd still making this thread. **** already.

So true. Close games are won and lost at the free throw
line. I was there the whole game and never saw Pearl miss the first free throw. Players do not understand the
importance of making free throws. If you miss a free throw, that opportunity is gone for all eternity. You may
make the next ten in a row (with our team ha ha ), but
the one you just missed is gone forever.

First of all, I'm a Vols fan no matter what. My blood bleeds orange. But I absolutely can not stand watching this team play. I think I will just do something else next time they are playing and check the score later. That should keep my blood pressure down. I thought the team put out very little effort, the coaching was terrible, and the fans at the game were pathetic. Reminded me of the Wade Houston era. All around sorry effort from coaches, team, fans.

You must have been at a different game than me. We lost this game at the foul line as we have most others.

Had Pearl waited to call the timeout. I would care less if we turned the ball over because we would have had a chance to get a good shot. But you go make your assumptions and I'll make mine.

No doubt. The Cam Tatum miss on front-end of a one & one late in game at UF cost UT a W for sure. There are at least 5-6 W's we lost at foul line, maybe more.

With one timeout left, instead of saving it in case he ended up missing the FT, and you can still set up some form of a play, you instead, for some inexplicable reason, take a timeout before the free throw. So what happens? He misses intentionally, and Hopson has to jack up a 50 footer with no hope of going in. Instead of waiting to take a TO, and maybe you can something closer to the basket. Why wait to take the timeout? I have no earthly idea. Anybody want to explain this to me?
Where the heart is, the mind will follow...to the ****ter. :frown:

It should not have come down to the last seconds anyway. FT's, over-subbing, jacking stupid 3's, etc., etc.

That being said, simply call time out to set your defense after Harris gives you the lead. Go man with token pressure on the ball on the inbounds. Double Bost or Johnson with your better defenders if they have the ball in their hands in scoring range. Keep Williams and Harris in the paint.

Really all you had to do was use the same D you used at Vandy to hold Jenkins. Of course you would somehow need to have them motivated to play the whole game. Easier said than done apparently.
