Hit those routes where across the middle with a post route or slant. We do not do that since 2022. When Tenn plays teams like Ga. or Ohio St that brought pressure that bothered us we do not run routes across the middle or a te drag etc. We can not put our receivers way wide and run 15 yd plus routes when blitzed as Nico can't sit back there all day. I feel Ohio St didn't worry about our run game with Sampson out and if nico tucked and ran so be it but were not going to let Tenn beat them deep.
There were a few times we had a receiver running open through the middle of the zone against OSU

It's spilt milk

Yup...he is a freshman.

When Peyton was a freshman, he was the 4th string quarterback.
Peyton's 2nd year he was a 1st team all SEC QB, finished 5th in Heisman, threw 33 TD passes and 4 interceptions and beat Ohio State in Bowl game.
This is Nico's 2nd year with 18 games under his belt, 5 as a True Freshman, he will be great, has a high ceiling.
Yes Peyton was co 3rd string as true freshman with Brandon Stewart but took over as starter mid season. Finished with 89 career TDs in 4 years.

A Sampson run up the A or B gap was at least 20% of our standard offensive play patterns......Many times throughout the season it was effective, but when the opponents defensive line and linebacker play was stout, the A & B gap routes were mostly closed....

Georgia and Arkansas shut down those gaps....It appears Ohio studied those tapes very well....They dared us to beat them through the air....This was not going to happen even if we played them 5 or more times...The air waves were closed for a variety of reasons.

There was always something this season where it just didn’t click. Whether it be bad penalties or turning the ball over after putting together a good drive it just wasn’t pretty for a lot of the time.
Perhaps the most important thing, other than top athletes, is discipline. How many times when we were in a 2nd or 3rd down and short yardage, did we get a false start penalty or an offensive holding penalty? Both sides of the ball have to be aware of watching the ball under center before moving.

I agree. This might be my biggest gripe with the staff since their arrival. The lack of discipline on the line has been a killer at times, And this is something that’s been happening for 4 years now. We do a lot of stuff very well, pre-snap penalties though have been a real problem.

It's definitely a combination of things, but like some other quarterbacks we've had in the past, timing and willingness to throw/pull the trigger is a crutch on this offense. Could be Freshman mistakes, but if that doesn't improve, we will be challenged offensively for a few years. Also, wish Golesh was back in the box.

IMO, hopefully Sanders is ready and start him at LT and tell Heard he can try to win the job at RT. I'm not fretting if he's not cool with that. Need to get Thompson from Northwestern and he can either play OG or slide out to RT if Heard leaves. Maybe someone like Bennett Warren and Umarov will be able to contribute. We need OL help in a bad way.
Heard is a right guard.

Don’t forget the qb. At least the O-line somehow blocked well enough to help get Samson almost 1500 yards, over 20 tds, and sec player of the year. Luckily all the terrible receivers are gone. Maybe we can get more terrible ones from the portal again.

I selected combination of all of the above. To me the offense never appeared to get in rhythm with each other and they did not seem to have a true leader.

This all day. Some wanna say a good QB masks a lot. And to a degree that’s true. But for an offense to run at its peak and be efficient and explosive, you have to have good QB, WR, RB, TE and OL play. You also have to have good play calling.
Great QBs also have the ability to manipulate or change the called play

Don't forget Peyton actually started the last 5-6 games his true freshman season

other than Thornton we didn’t have a big play guy. Shame he couldn’t stay healthy enough to do it every game.
