What was the biggest all time UT upset win?

no one has mentioned the 89 auburn Tennessee game.tennessee coming off a 5-6 season in 88.auburn was a preseason top 4-5 team.tennessee wins 21-14 and ran the ball all over the tigers.i forgot how many rushing yards Tennessee had.thats when Tennessee had the cobb webb backfield.

Was at that one with hefty bag as a rain poncho sitting in section X with my Dad and Godfather..(Both their first game at Neyland) They had come down from New England to meet my newly born son. Dad asked when we got up that morning in Chattanooga "It is going to be raining..how many people do you think will show up?" I said 96K and no one will leave" Halfway in 3rd my Godfather looks arounfd with his irish brouge and said "Well Billy you were right no one has left" What a game and time..My Dad than became a huge Vol fan and we went to games even after I moved down here at least once a year till he passed in 06..

Reggie got himself into trouble not long after that, but to me, that game was the beginning of a great 10-12 year run and maybe the greatest decade in Vol history IMO. Granted, I'm not old enough to go back past early 80's.

This threads teaches us one thing.. Coach Johnny Majors brought us some good memories.

He sure as blazes did--and built the foundation for Fulmer's run....That point gets way overlooked....Majors may not have been very likable, and sometimes he was WAY TOO CONSERVATIVE (1990 Bama game)--but He KNOWS FOOTBALL! :salute:

that 89 Tennessee had some stud o-linemen.my favorite was eric still.and big antone davis was a road grader.

I remember storming the field after the game with some folks, not as many people as the '98 Florida game, but it was still fun. Everyone was running, and doing "Pete Rose" slides on the wet turf to see how far they could slide. I was 16. I remember a drunk UT fan and a drunk Auburn fan got in a fight in front of me. When the police were taking them away, the UT fan shouted, "Johnny Majors can outdrink Pat Dye any day!!!!"

I know that may be the best... beacause no one gave us a chance...What was the spread? Was it bigger than the 18 for the 2001 FL game?

We were only 7 point underdogs in that game; it is more memorable because of all the lousy play under Majors in the near-decade leading up to the game.

1. FSU '98: 7 point dogs with the national title on the line.

Otherwise, biggest underdog upsets were as follows:

1. Florida '01: 18 point dogs to Spurrier's last ever game in the Swamp;
2. UCLA '89: 15 point dogs in the Rose Bowl;
3. Georgia '04: 13 point dogs in Athens;
4. Miami '03: 13 point dogs in the "I'm a soldier game";
5. Miami '86: 7 point dogs in the Sugar Bowl;
6. LSU '05: 7 point dogs in the Bayou;
7. Auburn '85: 7 point dogs at home.
