I'm not sure which one but it was definitely a Vandy game back in the 80s, and I'm pretty sure it was a non-conference game. It was back when Vandy had some fans and the stadium was mostly full but you could still get cheap tickets. I went with my friend and his dad because he had access to season tickets. I rooted for the other team.
possibly vandy since ilived there until moving to knoxville in third grade. dad bled Orange and we might have gone to game if tickets were given to him (no way he'd put any money in vandy hands) Canremember going to MBA-Hillsboro game. Safest guess is Davidson-Furman in 1968 during freshman year of college

I was talking to my dad last night. He said that he took me to a Lane College game back in like 1973. I was only 3 and don't recall. So I guess that was my 1st non UT.

NC State in the fall of 1978. Can’t remember who they played. I remember coming away thinking the atmosphere was like a high school game compared to Neyland. A few people who cared but mostly a lot of people wandering around looking to find someone to talk to.
Grew up in Raleigh about 3 miles from NCSU and Lou holtz and his family went to our church. Got some tickets from his kids and my dad and I went to my first Nc state game / 1rst football game in 72 or 73. It was impressive and went to several more in subsequent years by riding my bike over with some friends and jumping the fence to sit on the grassy hill where the field house is now. Bear in mind that carter Finley held approx 25k at that time.

My dads parents lived in Knoxville for 50 years and I went to my first game in Neyland about 76 or 77 when we played vandy and when we walked in to 80k screaming fans and I thought “this is what college football is all about” Been a Vols fan ever since and had season ticks for many years. Still travel from central Nc see my VOLS!

The early 70’s were probably a high point for NC State athletics culminating in 74 with a national championship in basketball and an ACC football championship under Holtz.

I didn’t get to NCSU until 78 but have good memories of my time there.

Lived in Lake Charles, LA for middle and beginning of high school. Father's company had season tickets for the McNeese State Cowboys. Went to most games. McNeese was a D-2 power at the time, even played in the Independence Bowl.

I think first game was vs Lamar; I know I got to walk on the field after that first game and it was pretty darn cool to 8 year old me.

Little known fact: McNeese State and Wyoming are only schools with cowboys as their mascot.
