While I agree with the sentiment of 30-2, the game last year was not like the fluke Memphis game in '96. Vandy has played us dead even for the last two seasons. I think people are missing some warning signs here as far as PR.
We need to beat Vandy so badly that any time they even open their mouth next offseason people just laugh. Time for a statement game. And yes, my hatred for them may be clouding my judgement, but it's time we clarify the pecking order and leave no doubt.
I must respectfully disagree.
The Vandy game last year was actually lost during the Missouri game. The team gave up on a woefully inept coach after a multiple over time game that Dooley didn't appear to want to win.
Three of the teams Vandy beat on their supposed magical mystery tour 2012 were so bad that they fired their coaches. Two of those teams were at historical lows in program history (Auburn and Tennessee).
One of those teams had already been soundly beaten by the same UT team earlier in the year (NCSU).
That really means that of a 9 win season, Vandy would not conceivably reproduce but 6 of those wins with competent coaching on the opponents sideline
If Missouri's QB stayed in the game, they are potentially down to 5 wins.
The Ole Miss game was a total toss up and I doubt Vandy pulls it out next year with Freeze in his second year.
That means they are down to 4 wins that are reproducible: the perennial college power houses of Presbyterian, UMASS, Kentucky and Wake Forest.
I do agree, however, that this fall in Neyland, UT needs to not let off the gas and make a statement. Revenge is a dish best served cold.
