The recruiting forum has always been my favorite part of VN.

Why do you all enjoy recruiting? What about it is the part that you enjoy and spend your hours following it?

For me, I enjoy most (aside from when a player commits) when a player that I thought due to location, or previous information, would never choose us, suddenly is considering us and then loves us after a visit.

What about you all?

It's the eternal wellspring of hope. And, quite frankly, that's all we've had the last 6 years.

That is what made me first come to the recruiting forum, but I stayed for the shirtless pics.

I just love the excitement that comes with recruiting. Anxiously waiting for tidbits after visits, watching commits recruit their future teammates, and just simply watching a class as a whole take shape. There are so many what if's and what could have been's in recruiting...it truly isn't for everyone. I love every aspect...can't wait to see the rest of this class take shape and see our next wave of VFLs show up in Knoxville.

I love also predicting classes.

Like for instance...this year...

Imagine the possibility of a class of Gibson, Jennings, Reid, maybe Alvin Kamara, Preston Williams, Jack Jones, Riley Lovingood, Zach Stewart, DJ Jones, Kahlil McKenzie, Tim Settle, Cecil Cherry, Andrew Butcher, Dylan Jackson, Jaylond Woods, Stephen Griffin, and possibly players like Austin Clark, Ricky DeBerry, Josh Sweat, Cameron Ordway.

Just imagining players like that on the field for UT...it's awesome.

All of the stuff listed above, but also how much I learn. I love knowing about basically every player on our roster as well as knowing a lot about our opponents' rosters. I've learned a lot about what coaches look for when scouting individual positions and what types of players fit different schemes. Overall I think it's a good way to learn a lot more of the details of the game if you didn't play in high school or college.

Same here. I'm an optimist and recruiting is the perfect place for it.

This too. I didn't start following closely until about 5 years ago and I feel like such an idiot for not following recruiting all those years before. You learn so much about UT's roster and many of your opponents rosters as well. It completely changes how you watch the game, how you think about the game and how important the game is to you.

I can't imagine being a fan now and NOT knowing where the 3rd string QB is from, who offered him in HS and why he chose UT.

My name is Ron Swanson and I'm a recruiting addict.

Yep, pretty much that.

Knowing the team better.

Knowing what talent to expect our rivals to have.

so basically... knowledge

The knowledge is a big part for me too. I've always followed recruiting, but I began following it so much closer about 10 years ago. I love knowing our Vols of course, but I enjoy knowing our competition and seeing how we measure up as much if not more. IMO you can never gain enough knowledge when it comes to football, and with recruiting being such an enormous part--especially nowadays--being knowledgeable when it comes to recruiting is an absolute must.

What I enjoy about recruiting:

- Learning the players we will have and what they can bring to the table

- Hope that the future is brighter

- Beating other schools for a top prospect

- Discussions of how a recruits skillset fits the offense/defense and the dynamic it can bring

What I think most people enjoy about recruiting:

- The drama and uncertainty of recruiting and finding out what UT is doing to win them over

- The creativity behind and tactics to get a kid to be interested in your school

What I hate about recruiting:

-Grown-azz men making sexual references about a kid committing to our school. It's disgusting. I get it's a metaphor, but there's a time and a place. The time is never. I'll let you figure out the place.

- Stalking a kid's every move on twitter

- Questioning character of an 18 year old you've never met based off of what he said on a social media site.

- Wishing a kid injury/bad well-being for not choosing your favorite school

- Not giving kids time to develop before throwing them under the bus because they're not a freshman all-american

But.. I'm still here I guess. I really enjoy keeping track of recruiting. These are the things I'm not a fan of, but it's the nature of the beast I suppose

It gives u a peak into the future for the most part.. I couldn't imagine not knowing who next years incoming impact players could be.. It tells u a lot about the way the coaches are steering the ship, and where we r headed as a program.
