When Arkansas Fires Pittman

Arkansas's OL doesn't exactly scare anyone, maybe Pittman isn't what he used to be?
You're right, Pittman isn't what he was. He was a position coach, focused on coaching the OL. Darn good at it too. So good,,our OL begged for his staying here when we brought in Lyle Allen. UT didn't listen, and those lightweight OL guys Lyle preferred, just got QBs killed.

Pittman as a HC, can't focus on one component of a team, he has to delegate, so he isn't a position coach. But if hired as an OL coach, I think he'd prove to be what he once was, and once again darn good at it. Not to fire our current OL coach, but grab Pitty so no one else does. And if necessary, promote him if our current one leaves.

Many of our fans don’t understand that being a failure as a head coach has nothing to do with being a coordinator or position coach. It’s always surprising how many.

Regardless, we have a good OLine coach.

Wow....dude, OL has been one of our best recruited positions. I just don't agree. We have a ton of talent there, albeit young.
I feel like we have tons of talent that isnt ready. Some of that feels like under development, some of it feels like overrated. so idk how i feel about our OL coach honestly. I know last year when Cooper Mays was out our line was atrocious. This year when our tackles got hurt it didnt look good. Only time will tell i guess.

It took him a while to get rolling in recruiting but the last class and this next class look really good.

So, I think we are behind where we would like to be but the pipeline is churning at the moment.

Can we please hire him to replace our way underachieving O line coach? Just not recruiting and developing talent well enough.
Hire Pittman? 🤔

Brilliant idea! Have you let CJH know yet? You could email him but a staffer probably handles his email. I recommend you take advantage of Vol Call this Wednesday by calling in. Be sure to give them your full name and town you live in so you can get the credit you deserve.

David Sanders says hey.

Assuming the recruiting rankings line up with real ability, I agree. Not all 4-stars are good and not all 3-stars lack talent. Alabama's best-looking OL #77 was a 3-star. It's a tough position to project. Need to see how guys perform once they're here. Player evaluations are just as important as a recruiter's ability to close, IMO.

None of Elarbee's HS recruits have become contributors. It's fair to question that. But it is not fair to question his ability to coach and develop players. He inherited one of the worst OLs in the SEC and now we have one of the best. So what if he's doing it with players he didn't sign out of HS?

Pittman may be even better than Elarbee, I don't know, but one thing I do know is that all of the elite recruits who sign with Tennessee talk about how the Tennessee program feels like family. That doesn't happen by accident. That happens by having a staff that loves and trusts one another, which trickles down to players who love and trust one another. If you want a team full of players who aren't looking for an opportunity go elsewhere, it's probably a good idea to have a staff full of coaches who exemplify loyalty.

I think he’s reacting to the fact OU had 3 sacks vs us. They produced more sacks against Auburn. A couple of things first OU defense is really good imo and secondly that field we played on was trash with our backup tackles.
Not agreeing with the OP, but, to be fair, Auburn didn't resort to the plow three times and punt plan, so more sacks were inevitable.

He had some pretty solid OLs at Arkansas the first time around under Beliema but his OLs the last few years have been awful. It’s almost like how Jimbo used to be known for QBs then that ended up being what did him in at A&M. Weird how some coaches known for a particular thing become head coaches and that becomes the worst part of the team.
Like Pruitt at Tennessee and DB's

Pittman retires. It's the main reason he took the Arkie job and has told many people he hangs it up there win or lose. He could change his mind but his long term plan was always to retire in Arkansas.

VFLer,Are you just plain stupid or what? Our O-line coach has done a great job since coming here.Granted,Sam Pittman is a great O-line coach and a great recruiter, but, don't put him here when there is no need.We need healthy o-linemen right now.

Same thing happens outside of sports in any competitive endeavor (sales, research…). Someone early on has success, maybe due to a truly good idea, or maybe due to colleagues, or maybe just extremely fortunate. Get promoted and demand everyone do it like they did. Too stubborn to see it’s not going to work now. Competition races past them.
