holy schnike duckhook are we ever lucky tht you posted even a second time about our recruiting / staff issues. Now that you've done that, maybe now we will wakeup to the issues and we can do something about it. Oh wait, whistling by the graveyard equates to every othe solution that we might effect - exactly dick.

I doubt we will ever recruit better than Florida for obvious reasons. I'll get worried about UGA if they can beat us once and awhile. And I really don't find myself worrying about Bama either for some reason. Let's wait til we get kids on campus before we start doing anything drastic

I'm not comfortable at all. But this nonsense about "UGA is outrecruiting Tennessee" and "Fear Saban" is stupid.

Quit pissing your pants. UGA is 1-3 against Tennessee the last 4 years. :snoring: Tell me why I should worry again? Is it because Knowshon Moreno is so good? Or is it because we play them at Sanford Stadium next year? Oh Tennessee is 2-0 the past 4 seasons there.

Saban is a good coach and a damn good recruiter. Yet they are still 6-6. Let me tell you, those guys in Tuscaloosa are something else. They almost beat ULM.
I agree. We play in the SEC CG and we roll GA 2 years in a row, yet GA is recruiting better than we are? Who cares what rivals and scout says? They don't know how a player will perform on the field. This year is going to be a down year in recruiting. We are pretty deep in a lot of spots. Fulmer may catch a lot of junk from a lot of people, but most Vol fans agree, the man can recruit. Recruiting is one area of this program I am not worried about.

On a side note, I saw AJ Green of Summerville HS (future GA WR, top 5 WR in the US) play in the SC State Championship game against Byrnes HS and the Byrnes D made him look stupid (I think he finished with 29 yards total). Add to that the fact that he was STILL throwing up gang signs and talking smack as his team was losing 48-9. He won't do squat at GA, so count that 5-starrer out.

UGA is where 5 star receivers' careers go to die.
Gibson, Massaquoi and Bailey to name a few.

Well, it looks like a lot of Whistling past the Graveyard in a lot of the responses to my original post. Continue to tell yourselves that "all is well" if you wish. What's new? All I'll say is remember this thread over the next 4-5 years, as 5-3 SEC records become the norm around here. Get used to consistent losing to Florida, UGA, and Bama before Halloween every year. Each have superior coaching, along with soon-to-be superior talent. It is what it is.

Not to be overly dramatic, but what in the world is going on with recruiting? With Chris Jordan commiting to Bama, that makes 3 of the top 5 players in-state leaving with Saban. We don't exactly have a lot of in-state talent to choose from, and this is a concerning precedent. That leaves us the regional and national base that Fulmer has made a living off of. Only problem is, the big dogs are walking early this year, and almost all of the rivals 100 have commited. As it sits, I'm afraid we will have to scramble to just sign an average class....the 2nd of its kind in 3 years, with a great class in-between. This is not how programs are turned around, how championships are won, or how Florida and Georgia are caught. I know CPF believes last year's class will win a national title, but it won't without help. Frustrating, especially while Meyer and Richt continue to stockpile.....and now Saban is clipping along at a speed unseen in Tuscaloosa in over a decade. Make no mistake: he will turn that program around in record time, and he'll do it the right way. It's only going to get tougher folks, and all I see is a slouching toward mediocrity. :whistling:

Who said anything about turning around a program? We are right where the majority fans seemily want to be..........winning 8-9 games a year, playing(and losing) in the SEC c'ship game ever third year, and going to a minor bowl game. Mark my word, we will rue the day than Dan Williams blocked the Kentucky field goal attempt. Otherwise, instead of the "Panic Button" our AD might have been pushing the "Eject Button" under CPF seat!:banghead2:

where did Eric Berry come from?
He came from his father, former Vol captain, James Berry, otherwise he's at UGA now.

If Fulmer and Co. were smart, they would plead with former UT greats like Manning, Al Wilson, Jamal Lewis etc. to emulate Shawn Kemp and have as many prodegy with as many women as possible..........Wait!!!! Travis Henry is already in the program from what I here.:eek:hmy:

Last year UGA was rebuilding and this year the Vols were fortunate enough to catch them before they started clicking on all cylinders. Richt still has a winning record against Fulmer. The Dawgs are outrecruiting the Vols. I miss Rodney Garner. Athens is a much cooler college town than Knoxville and their gameday atmoshpere is second only to perhaps Oxford. UGA is a better mascot than Smokey, at least according to those mascot popularity polls.

I know I'm probably missing a few points here. Any help?

If I recall, y'all had a top 5 recruiting class last year. Thats a great class of freshmen. There really is no need to panic. Oh wait, I just found out that Fulmer signed a contract extension. Feel free!

Oh c'mon! I know some of you laughed at that!

Every single year the Volnationers proclaim it is the end of the world. Last year, it was "Oh nos! Our WRs are gone, and we are doomed! DOOOOOOOMMMMMED!" Well, this year turned out better than any of us imagined coming in. Now the responses to this will probably be because "Fulmer this" or "Fulmer that." The fact of the matter is the only year we were doomed was 2005. The thing is, Phil can sneak an SEC championship win on the backs of this years freshman, and we may not even notice the down recruiting period he seems to be going through right now. I tend to think we are on the way up, but there is still plenty of time for me to be proven wrong.

The spotty recruiting and player development is overplayed, but it is certainly worth discussing. Recently the UT team has had missing parts necessary to win a championship. For instance in 05 we had a great defense, and our offense, though loaded with good skill players simply stunk.

Last year UT had a senior QB, and a very shallow receiving corps. Next year, the receiving corps looks to be coming together, but we will have concerns at QB and across the d line.

No, the team hasn't completely tanked (with the exception of 05), but for the last three years we have gone into the offseason with serious question marks in some major areas. Maybe those are answered next year, but I am not holding my breath.

Well, I guess I just feel that recruiting is an issue for every school that is not in the states of California, Florida, Louisiana, Texas, and maybe Alabama. We've had to dismiss a lot of players from our team in the last few years, and if we are going to complain about anything recruiting wise that seems to be the big one. As far as recruiting is concerned right now, it feels like we are a couple (or even one) stud Defensive tackles away from being a really competitive team. Every one has to deal with the rotating QB situation, and frankly from Kelly -> Clausen we never seemed to have too big of an issue plugging in the next guy. I honestly feel like if Crompton ends being a huge bust that the odds of Coleman or Stephens or whomever we bring in also being busts is so slim that I'm just not that worried about the QB.

As far as recruiting goes, you may be right, but it is still a question mark for next year. Our lack of depth up front on D is frightening. Actually, our lack of depth at every defensive position could be a problem next year. It has been a long time since UT has kept their entire secondary healthy for a full season, and we are still banking on the development of key players like Martin, Donald, and Walker at end.

Berry, Donald, Walker, Martin, O'Neal, Paige, Jones, Creer, Langley, McKenzie, and Willingham.... ALL committed after this point last year if I remember correclty.

Those are basically the guys that put UT in the top 5.

IMO, this year's class is very unlikely to be top 5. Has a long shot at being top 10 but will more than likely be top 20.

Two things to remember with these ratings. UF will do well most years because there's alot of talent in Fl... and there's alot more media exposure in Miami than in Soddy Daisy.

Rogan and Frazier make two good examples of guys UT found who were badly underrated. Wilks, Poole, and Johnson in this class look underrated to me.

:

Exactly! UT gets a kid like that once in a blue moon. UF, UGA, Texas, LSU, and even Bama have great prep talent almost every year that grows up in a home with a strong team allegiance or alumni of those schools.

UT does an exceptional job of recruiting considering the mountain they have to climb to compete with schools that have a ton of in-state talent every year.

I know you have an overwhelming urge... maybe a psychological compulsion with spinning everything as negative as possible concerning the Vols and particularly CPF... But.... UT hasn't just beaten UGA the last two times... They've crushed them.

I know it won't last forever. MR is too good for that. But it has just as much chance of lasting forever as UF's dominance over UT. Those teams are STILL the elite of the SECE... and UT has won the East twice since UGA last won it.

CPF is now 3-4 against MR... and as mentioned, all three of those wins came in the last 4 years.... And all four of the losses occurred when Randy Sanders was UT's OC. Three of them came with Casey Clausen as UT's QB.
