When will McBee live up to his hype?

He's a true freshman and a walk-on. I would expect him to play like crap and be inconsistent at times. Every freshman, except for a certain few, goes through this phase, it's just a part of growing as a basketball player. Give him a break, lower your expectations, he's no Chris Lofton or JJ Redick and never will be so quit acting like he should make every shot he throws up. I'm a lot more concerned about how we played defense in the last 10 minutes and not McBee's shooting.

Skyler Mcbee has got to have better footwork. I cannot believe someone who shoots as much as he does in the gym could receive a pass on the left wing with his right foot facing the top of the key and his left facing the free throw line and go immediately into a shooting motion off the catch. Watch this game tape, his feet and his resulting form are awful awful in the second half. He had one opportunity I would call a "spot up" shot.

Completely agree. He fixes his feet, he makes a lot more shots. He has pretty good form from the waist on up, he just needs to work on his footwork.

STFU Orange. You obviously no absolutely NOTHING about basketball. I don't give a damn what year he is. He saw Vanderbilt come down the floor and hit a few threes and chucked some bricks and airballs up to match. He didn't even LOOK for a shot. Just threw it up. I am looking at the roster and I see Tatum, a player that is 1000000X better than this. What hype? Seriously? Go away.

Good lord! He walked on, made the team, was sent on the floor, and is playing as hard as he can. By the way, he pays for own education, at least for now, unlike the rest. If you think he sucks so bad, go walk on yourself and take his spot. Otherwise, you need to take your own advice.

Where is the deadeye shooter I heard so much about? This kid was supposed to be an unstoppable outside shooter, but he rarely hits open threes. I'm not saying he should hit every three, but I would expect him to be into the high 40%'s.

We need him to be a run stopper and a soul crusher against the other teams.

WOW!!I am so sick of all you fair weather fans. Love 'em when they win, Hate 'em when they lose.

Where do we start, how about... 1) He is a freshman. 2) He is a walk-on, which for you idiots means no scholarship. 3) He hit an amazingly clutch shot to help seal the deal against then #1 Kansas. Did you forget all the posts yall made about giving him a scholly?
Give him a break. Everyday there is someone on here *****ing about one of our players (pick a sport) not playing well or "not living up to the hype". And this is the best part from this particular post... You think he should be "into the "high 40%'s" from behind the 3-pt arc huh? Chris Lofton, yeah you remember him? The guy who posted the best all time 3-pt shooting percentage at UT? Yeah well he averaged barely under 45% over his brilliant career playing for UT. Guess you didn't know that did you? You don't know how stupid you sound when you write this stuff. You love them when they win and hate them when they lose. JP Prince scores 22 tonight and leads the team in points and it was his technical that single handedly lost the game for us right? Get a life.

Half of this rant is directed at the poster of this thread, the other half is directed at everyone else who feels the same way or posts the same stupid sh1t. Do our university a favor and either quit your *****ing or find another school to root for. You make me sick.

so because he hit a lucky shot against Kansas he deserves our benefit of the doubt? He was so hyped coming into the season about this "Mcbee for 3" crap. Whatever. He cannot guard anybody in big time college basketball. If you can't see that then stop drinking the Kool Aid or get out of Granger County. He is a liability on defense. If he isnt defending well, isnt hitting threes, and is taking dumb shots...what makes you think he deserves to play???

I thought he was supposed to be the next Carmelo Anthony. If this guy were half of what was promised, then we would be clear favorites to win the National Championship. Maybe he needs to start practicing instead of doing drugs and hanging out at the strip club all day.

If he was making shots I might could forget about him running around like a chicken with his head cutoff on D but I've yet to see that deadly shooting threat.

I was going to say "he crushed my soul tonight" but I am going to retract that and say that he need to finish his threes and not float off to the side. They might also consider following their shots once in a while as well. He and Steven combined to really struggle in the second half. With very limited resources at our disposal somebody better get the starters out when they pick up their third fouls at the start of the second half. Somebody also needs to get them out when they pick up their second fouls late in the first half.

Worse coaching mistake I can recall seeing Pearl and company make.

His shooting was definitely legendary on these parts.

What a stupid thread. He's a walk on. Don't act like he was supposed to come in with an auora or something. He doesn't have a scholarship so every point he scores is a plus.

You should be complaining abt why we never play D. But you think "if we start hittin our 3s we will win". You apparently have no clue about what it takes to be a good college bball team. And for what it's worth, mcbee plays great D.

he is what he is. he is a white dude that fans want to succeed simply because he is white. he didnt get many scholarship offers because he isnt an upper d1 player

McBee got hype coming into the season, message board hype, hometown hype, orange-drinking kool-aid hype. It is not his fault he does not live up to this (and he hasn't).

I wish he was as good of a shooter as was hyped, but he isn't. I think of him as the anti-Prince, he makes good decisions (for the most part), but just does not have the talent to compete at this level. He seems to know what to do but cannot do it.

He is a walk on, cut the guy a little slack. He had scholarships waiting for him at other schools, but decided to play here because he is a lifelong Vol. That gets him a lot of leeway in my book. He plays hard, and is paying his own way because he wants to be here. I am a McBee fan.

If I'm not mistaken, I believe the best basketball offer he got was from ETSU. We could have certainly used him down here in Johnson City though, but I'm glad he is a Tennessee Volunteer, even if no one else is.

no.hes.not.only.in.title.he.will.be.on.scholarship.next.season. When he signed here people acted like he was the second coming of christ, so yes he is hyped.
let's worry about this season first.
with the talent coming in next year, he will be lucky to get 5 min a game

Listen people, at least McBee isn't going to be one and done like some of you claimed. Right now he's probably a mid second rounder, and he's not going to go unless he gets guaranteed 1st round money. I think if he works on his offensive rebounding he might be a lottery pick next year. I talked to an NBA scout at the Rocky Top league who said that teams are really enticed by his head fake.

I usually understand sarcasm, but I am at a total loss on this one. I think, maybe, you are poking fun at the people that said McBee had a lot of hype coming in. And maybe, just maybe, you are bringing in a little of what some said about Hopson when he came. But, honestly, I just do not get it.
