I know it's nowhere near as high profile a job but where are all the concerned citizens bashing Kennedy for being a moron incapable of tying shoes. Or how unqualified she is, much less qualified than Palin ever dreamed of being.

At the end of the day we're all the same. Democrats, Republicans, liberals or conservatves do the same thing. If the left isn't bashing Palin the right is bashing Kennedy, or vice versa. So...if you are coming to a conclusion that people on the left are hypocrites, well many are, and so are people on the right, just as good honest fair minded people are found on both sides.

Very true, it was directed at some who frequent this board as well as the media that mocked Palin's intellect but have been silent when it comes to Caroline.

Her father/uncle will probably get her elected. We're arguing the rationale of electing someone purely because they've got a powerful name.

I think you've just gone back on your staple arguement.

I said in my first sentence in my first post in this thread I didn't think she was qualified to be senator. Now I'm saying it for the 3rd time. How many do I need say it before you will read it?

Oh I know what your saying, I respect your point of view very much. The media has a love affair with the Kennedys so they will be unfair in this. I doubt Katie Couric hits her with any "gotcha" questions.

Her father was President and was assasinated in office, it's not like she has no background in politics.

But on the same tune... you're saying that she does have justification because she's the daughter of an assassinated President?

Forgive me if I'm completely misreading that... but that looks like you're saying she does have a background, therefore some equitable worth in any political office.

Her father was President, one uncle attorney general, the other U.S. Senator. Why is it so difficult to see that being advantageous to her?

I am sure LG is working on this right now.

Many thoughts, at least one of which might surprise you.

First, to be honest, I have been so freakin busy that I haven't seen a whole lot of the coverage about Kennedy. I have noticed a little banner about it pretty much 90 % of the time I've flipped through Fox News, but that is not surprising.

From what I gather, many contend she would not be a good choice for U.S. Senator because she has no significant epxerience operating a governmental agency or a business.

While I am not quite sure what experience a U.S. Senator should have, and I've no clue as to who is alternatively in the running for the appointment, it does seem to me that this criticism of Kennedy is perfectly valid and legitimate. If she has no such experience, I would question what she can do in that post. I, myself, would not appoint her if that is indeed true.

On another, but related subject, I do see some dissimilarity in that Kennedy's failure to prove her mettle has apparently been very much a closed process. Palin, IMO, crashed and burned in the most public of ways. Whether you consider that accurate, I would say its not that easy to compare the two situations simply because of the two very different ways in which the issues have come to light.

Assuming what I've heard about Kennedy to be true, she is not IMO qualified to be a Senator, or anything else for that matter. Given what I saw of Palin, I am convinced she is not qualified to hold any federal office and certainly not Pres or Vice Pres.

because being elected and being appointed are two completely different things. She would never win, unless she ran unopposed (like Obama did in Chicago), in a real election where she actually had to articulate her views on the issues and the policies she would pursue on behalf of her constituency.

If your family business was politics, I would think you would be knowledgable on it. Her father was President, her Uncle attoney general, another Uncle Senator, etc.

It's a moot point anyways, if she runs she will be elected, Mass. loves Kennedys and lots of Senators have been elected with no experience. Tennessee had a senator a while back who was a surgeon, who's first political office was Senator.

I'm sure Paris Hilton is qualified to run an international hotel chain.

Edit: I see MG beat me to the punch on this one.

Right on Peyton Manning's dad being Archie Manning didn't help him be a better QB. Because we know family history makes no difference.

Yes, that's why there are so many sons that follow their fathers into NFL quarterbacking success. Great point.
