Where do we end up this week?

I saw that - depends upon how the committee looks at the win over OU to be honest.
Oklahoma is showing its true colors. They should be riding a 3 game losing streak but luckily pulled out a win against UCF. They will win out and the record will look nice but their only legitimate victory will be that Texas game.

The key for Tennessee is to just keep winning - the other match ups next week:

- UGA and Ole Miss (either Ole Miss will be a 2 loss team or UGA will have one loss).
- PSU and Michigan (either PSU will be a 2 loss team or UM will have one loss).
- Oregon, Oregon State and Washington still have games that include the other one; OSU has to play both of them. Oregon and Washington do not play each other in the regular season. That conference tends to end up with the winner have 1 or more losses as the season progresses. If Washington makes it out of the conference and championship game unbeaten - they deserve on of the 4 spots - mainly because that rarely happens.

The inexcusable loss and lack of preparedness and execusion at the swamp continues to be a major thorn in the side for the Vols.

If someone can justify Oklahoma State being in the top 15 with a 33-7 loss to South Alabama at home on their résumé then be my guest.
It’s simple. Recency bias. They just beat the #9 team and are on a 5 game win streak. USA loss was long ago

Yeah but Oklahoma is getting EXPOSED. They barely beat UCF and had to come from behind to do it and now have lost 2 straight games.

They did beat Texas but only on the final drive of the game. The rest of their schedule was straight trash. OKS should remain behind us as we are both 2 loss teams.

Okay…. But we haven’t beat anyone of significance yet? OK State can say they have. I’m not rooting for them to jump us, but I’m also not delusional for thinking they COULD jump us.

Who is Oregon’s 1 loss to?

Oregon lost to Washington in a thriller but yeah there is still a lot to be decided in the PAC-12.

Yeah maybe but they would have to jump like 7 spots to get ahead of us because we will move up at least 1 or 2 spots ourselves.

PAC12- we need Washington to finish 13-0. That means they give Oregon a second loss and Oregon State has 3 losses minumum

Big Ten- We need Ohio State or Michigan winner to go 13-0 and Penn State to finish 10-2.

Big 12- Would be ideal for Texas to lose a 2nd game along the way somewhere

SEC- Need Bama to be 11-1 going into Atlanta as a likely Top 5 team. Need Ole Miss to beat Georgia but lose an unlikely game to Miss State. Tennessee needs to win out. If we finish 10-2 with the above happening, we are likely inside the Top 8-10 with a game vs a Top 5 Alabama in Atlanta. Sadly last year, the committee said Conference Champ weekend doesn’t matter but they do change yearly. So it’s up them to make the case that a top 8 Tennessee beating a Top 5 Alabama ahould rocket us up i to the top 4. The absolute worst case is that Ole Miss wins out and finishes 11-1. I think they’d be in the 4th spot over the 11-1Ohio State/Michigan loser

Sure. But blowing out UConn doesn’t weigh more than #22 beating #9. I would not be surprised if Tennessee and OK State are right next to each other in the rankings on Tuesday.

That #9 team in the country was that high for one win. They’ve been on a downward spiral the past month and looking more like the Oklahoma from last year.

“Downward spiral for a month” while having just their, checks notes, 2nd loss of the season….

It doesn't matter. Gotta win next week. And the week after. And the week after that. The rankings will take care of themselves.

And need to root for Lane next week.
I would rather eat my fingers than root for Lane Kiffin.

You are forgetting FSU. They are probably undefeated - so that is three teams in with your thinking ... Washington, Big Ten champ, FSU. It only leaves one to be selected from the Big 12 and SEC conference.

If the Big 12 conference champ has 1 loss and the SEC conference champ has 2 losses, the Big 12 champ is the 4th team - no SEC team.

If the Big 12 conference champ has 1 loss and is Texas and the SEC conference champ is Bama - Texas gets in - no SEC team.

For a 2 loss SEC champ to get into the CFP, there cannot be three undefeated teams and a 1 loss Big 12 champ. Big 12, due to Texas beating Bama is considered stronger this year.

I believe we are seeing the crazy stuff with the SEC refs because the SEC is full aware that if UGA or Bama is not in the title game, the SEC chances for a team in the CFP goes down. Ole Miss will not be in the SEC title game - Bama has to lose 2 for that to happen. I guess Bama could implode and lose on the road to UK and Auburn (believe me I would celebrate loudly), but that is not likely.

We and the SEC for that matter, needs chaos in the PAC12, Big 12 and Big Ten.

Did they win or lose?
They won after a failed 2 point conversion. UCF just won their 1st conference game of the season this weekend. That would be like Alabama beating Vanderbilt by 2 points…

A win is a win. There has never been a committee that has knocked an undefeated team for a win against a lackluster opponent. See TCU last year.

So if we had just beaten UConn by 2 points we wouldn’t drop in the rankings?

Wasn't UGA ranked 1 all year until they weren't? They haven't lost a game yet.

Oklahoma State is ranked 22nd in the CFP Rankings. That is the only ranking system that matters. We are ranked 17th and the 9th, 12th, 14th, and 15th ranked teams all lost ahead of us. We will be ranked 14th. They aren’t going to vault Oklahoma State 7 or 8 spots. They would only go as high as 18th imo. Ole Miss, Penn State, and Louisville will all slide up a spot. The top 15 should look something like this (top 5 can be hotly debated at the moment):

1 Ohio State
2 Georgia
3 Michigan
4 Florida State
5 Washington
6 Oregon
7 Texas
8 Alabama
9 Ole Miss
10 Penn State
11 Louisville
12 Oklahoma
13 Oregon State
14 Tennessee
15 Missouri
I could see it shaking out something like this. Evidently you didn't read any of my posts beyond the one you quoted.
