This board has gone to hell quite frankly, due to the influx of trolls. There must be >100 posters here now who've arrived just to bash the team and bash Holly in the past few weeks. Half of them have <30 posts, and the other half only have a history of posting in the football forum, plus a handful of people who've dedicated their winter to racking up hundreds of troll-posts. It's impossible to have a discussion about team play before it's derailed by "Holly sucks" posts. Last night's game thread went to hell before the game even started, because the Holly bashing began with post #14 and never stopped.

We get it. You're entitled to your opinion. How about starting a daily "Holly sucks" thread, and letting those of us who want to discuss basketball actually discuss basketball in threads about basketball?

As a devils advocate, poor coaching is a part of assessing a basketball game so if a coach substitutes in/out a player at the wrong time, or plays a player who is struggling too long, or is just making horrible decisions as a coach, people are going to say something.

IMHO Frozen doesn't mind actually discussing Lady Vols baskeball, it's the "bashing" of the team and Holly, as coach. Constructive criticism vs trashing...:peace2:

GO LADY VOLS!

Holly doesn't suck. Holly is simply in over her head with an extremely challenging team.

But, Holly will always be a VFL.

Even if you honestly discuss basketball, it is difficult not to discuss the present state of the Lady Vol program. The present state is reality. I admit that sometimes we go too far with our criticism of Holly's coaching and that of her staff, however, it is difficult not to notice the disarray of this program and its potential negative future. The bashing is really bad when we start throwing players under the bus and try to justify how the team is being coached.

That being said, it is difficult to discuss some of the failures of this team without laying some of the blame at Holly's feet. It may be sad, but head coaches have to be prepared to shoulder a great portion of the blame when their team's recruiting and playing goes South. Being a head coach is a what have you done for me lately job. That is the way it is and will always be. Not only was I a high school head coach for several years but I also hired high school coaches. I received criticism for both coaching and the hiring of coaches. I have to admit some of it was warranted and some of it was not. In the end it was my job to correct my mistakes and weaknesses, if not I knew I would lose my job or be replaced.

Holly took on a lot replacing a legend that built women's basketball into what it is today. With that comes a lot of responsibility and a great amount of stress and expectations. Yes, her record looks very good, as far as wins and loses are concerned, however, when you review recruiting and the present season, the program is leaning more towards middle of the the pact territory rather than a top 10 program. Holly has to determine what has gone wrong and how to right the ship. Just saying something is good and offering excuses, and being overjoyed and/or sad, she will, or will not, be back next season, does not create, or lessens, a great program. We are facing reality and presently it does not look good. There is something broken in this program that requires fixing.

Very well articulated and on point.

Fine. A comment of "That was a bad substitution because it XYZ..." is useful. Seventeen consecutive posts of "hollydooley sucks" adds nothing to any discussion.

That is good post by teacherdean and is appropriate to any discussion about the state of the program. But "holly sucks and this team is going to the doghouse" isn't contributory to a game thread or recruiting thread.

We can probably break this down into some basic types.

Not really trolls; LV fans who are rightfully upset about this poor season and want a coaching change. All reasonable sentiments but it tips into unreasonable when it becomes the only narrative that they will tolerate; when they continually insist - I REFUSE TO ACCEPT THIS-- as though their screaming into the (virtual) wind of a message board will somehow force a change or when they root against the LVs and/or hope that key players leave so that the AD's hand will be forced to make a coaching change.

Football fans who don't care a whit about LVs basketball but harbored animosity that the football program could never measure up to the LVs. This season is there chance to pump up their macho parts.

Holly haters- they exist. People who will never accept Holly because she had the temerity to replace a legend or because of her sexual orientation.

And there probably is a segment of opposition fans who come on to basically stir the pot. I don't think it is many but, on a message board, it only takes a few.

They come from the same place that the men's board trolls come from. They only show up when we lose and all they do is whine about how we'll always suck, get out the black curtains, and shut down the program.

And the baseball trolls, who only show up to say Todd Helton needs to coach the team; because that's the only former Vol baseball player they can name for obvious reasons.

I accept the following facts: there is a 100% chance Holly will be back, Holly will have to be fired no matter how bad the team gets, Holly, sad to say, is in over her head, Holly is doing her best no matter how bad the team becomes, and that things will not get any better next season. Last but not least there is nothing I can say or do to improve the team but pray and hope for better but not be surprised if things get worse.

I am not a troll and you do not have that many posts yourself. People have a right to express their opinion and thankfully not everyone has to agree with you!

How about pulling your head out of the sand and realizing what is going on. If you think last evenings win was anything less than an embarrassment then is deeper in the sand than I would have thought. SEC network as well as ESPN said the same thing that it should have been a mismatch, and that the team was making a statement just in the wrong direction. I have nothing to say about her as a person, just she can't coach and doesn't even understand that she is the problem

When we discuss bsketball, part of the discussion will be the mistakes that were made in the game. This will lead to a mention of the coach, who is Holly. Then it will turn to "it's her fault"

(Poster A) " I can't believe that we lost that game. Had we gotten that last rebound and prevented them from putting it back up for the winning score, we would have won."

(Poster B) "Yeah, had Mercedes been in the game, she would have gotten the rebound and we would have won. NOt sure why Holly had her on the bench at that crucial time."

(Poster C) "Holly sucks and can't make good substitutions. Her decision making is horrible"

If you are classifying all those who are critical of the current team and coaching staff as trolls ,then that quite frankly speaks volumes about you both as a person and a "fan".That frankly is just preposterous.

I take much pride in the fact that i was post #14 in the game thread last night. I have a few more posts than 30... and have posted in the lady vol forum for years.

We're entitled to share our perspectives here, just like you. Why was it unfair for me to criticize Holly for saying, "half the team doesn't know what our record is." When that's reported on national television, you do realize that only adds to to growing image that's she incompetent as a coach, right?

Also, important to note, I was a huge Holly supporter for years. I even penned a thread here last season calling out Holly bashers, after we won a share of the regular season championship. I don't think anyone hates Holly- most are simply saddened by the current state of the program.

Good post. You should not have to defend yourself because a poster cannot handle the truth. That's the OP's issue to handle for him/herself. This is a message board, open forum to everybody. I would say that whether I agreed or not.

If Holly loves the LV's and their/her legacy more than she loves her power and paycheck she will offer her resignation at season's end. Then it will be up to Hart to accept or not. Four years in and the program is in clear decline, she's lost most of the roster mentally, and has zero recruits committed. Potential top recruiting targets are not stupid, they know what is going on and will steer clear of the turmoil. Those are the facts. Or we can pretend all is well and she will get it together, which is exactly what the Dooley supporters did.
