Where is Bruce Pearl?

Do you think if the school is hit REALLY hard Pearl will resign to spare the school the hammer? The NCAA penalties won't be officially given until sometime in June, I believe. Of course it might be too late for any mercy if they urged UT to fire him, and they didn't. Or, if suspended 1 year, turn the program over to Jones and Forbes then come back in 2012?

It is sadly looking like our BB program is going to be set-back 2 to 3 years at least no matter what comes down.

I agree, the program will be set back several years no matter what happens. Even if they use the interim coaches for one year it won't be pretty, look at what happened at Arizona when they stumbled around at the end of Lute Olsen's tenure and still haven't recovered.

Acts like a man who knows or thinks he knows the hammer is coming. For a man that perscuted the guy in the big ten for cheating. He deserves what he gets this was all minor until he lied. The embarassment continues everytime we play the Univ gets bashed.

Will this be the first time that the NCAA makes a ruling on major violations committed by the UT basketball program? Should UT expect any leniency since it isn't a repeat offender?

This is why I believe the university made a serious mistake when Pearl wasn't fired. Keeping him as a lame duck coach and keeping the media frenzy going all year is continuing to have a major negative effect on the program. How can he be himself when his career is very likely hanging by a thread. I don't like the approach by Hamilton that unethical behavior is acceptable if you can just win enough. Pearl has done an outstanding job at TN till this point, but he destroyed the good by his unethical behavior and is taking down the program with him.

As much of some of you would like to believe that we will be fine without bruce, its not true.

Just based on the fact that you talk like that automatically disqualifies you from having any credibility at all.

Tennessee could easily get a good coach for the money they're paying Pearl.

Sure they could.

Or, they could fail to do so.

The problem with hiring a new coach is it's a bit of a crap shoot, and history proves schools are wrong far, far more often than they're right.

What are the chances that Pearl/the team have received some information that has led them to be playing with less drive than they otherwise might? I suppose it would be out by now if they did have some more specific info...but it makes you wonder.

I think if he's going to fired at some point late or after season, the team would play like gang busters to run the table. The recent reactions by players and coaches alike reflect more of a year long suspension.

Also, public humiliation is very powerful punishment...the 'AA may be purposely stalling for this reason and may not do anything else.

I'm inclined to believe this. One of the "higher-ups" at the NCAA just recently made some comments that seemed to be directed at Pearl and his situation. He made it sound as though Bruce may be in for a world of hurt. I think Pearl is as good as gone and he and his team know it. I doubt this season ends well to be honest.

What "higher up"? And when were these statements made and where can they be located?

NCAA president Mark Emmert. Early last week. Gary Parrish and Mike Decourcy both wrote extensively about it.

Well, the NCAA president likely doesn't really know what he's talking about as a previous poster indicated that he isn't the one who makes decisions on investigations, probably has no actual input at all.

For those who think B Pearl is going to be out by start of next season, who do you think could come in and not just maintain what Pearl has built but take us further?

My guy is Lawerence Frank. The one issue is if he looks for another pro job after a couple years.

Only options are Wade Houston, Jerry Green and Buzz Peterson.

Right, we have absolutely no chance of hiring any decent coach if Pearl leaves. UT basketball as we know it will no longer exist. 2.5 million has no chance of attracting a decent coach such as Jay Wright.

I've heard Tubby Smith owns property in Ky and Ga so he would like a central location....
