Where were all of the rational posters before the season?

I've always wanted a big green egg. the dang things are just so expensive!

I happened to get mine on a really good deal. Otherwise, I'd still be using the Brinkman smoker.

Check Craigslist. Sometimes there are people that get them/ win them and don't want them. Make them an offer.

You are right....we almost beat Ga. For some reason we always play Ga very well.....and I am not giving up on Saturday. Yes, it is getting very old because we do all love the Vols. I just still believe in Butch Jones. If we can hold them he has done an amazing job recruiting. He needs the players to run his system. I was hoping for 6-6 this year....and am still hoping for that. We all want the glory days to come back.

I hope like anything Butch works out. I'm tired of hearing the audio not match up with the video!

Butch has said and Tweeted all the right things in the off-season but the product, so far, doesn't match what he's preaching.

There's a thread started by a Gator fan on the 1st page called, "here's the deal folks."

He's basically saying UT sucks in a "we all tried to tell you so" way.

Actually, just read that post. And was fair, objective and spot on in many aspects and was not saying outright "you suck." 99Gator is saying what many have said and is an outside opinion looking in right now which can be a far greater perspective than looking at this team through orange colored glasses.

There's a huge difference in someone saying "I see some things in your program that are broken and this is why" rather than just plain "Worley/CBJ/Vols suck!" posts that tend to get started on Saturday and Sunday.

What exactly do you expect this season? There are a lot of great coaches who would have a hard time winning 6 games with this team. They're just not all that good. It doesn't matter what plays you call, if the players don't execute, it doesn't matter. Butch may or may not be the answer, but it's way too early for anyone to know. I'm not sure why this is such a hard thing for people to grasp.

I expected a more disciplined team that, while they may be short on talent, could make it up with discipline and execution.

The 1st game produced no penalites. The 2nd game produced some turnovers. It's fallen apart since then

I was hoping, as were most on here, that UT could pull an upset over UF, UGA, or USC.

I know that's a lot to ask for but to hear all the talk in the off-season, it was believable.

There were plenty of people talking about adjusting expectations before the season started. I guess we see what we want to see.

And they were called Negavols and told to GTFO and go root for Vandy, UF, or Bama.

Okay then. But I'm Full Butch and think Butch gets it and all that stuff, and I didn't pick those upsets.

I am probably just burned out on these threads, from both sides, and should just quietly exit stage left.

I was one of them. I don't remember anyone calling me a negavol or anything of the sort. Maybe it was all about the delivery.

More disciplined how? Apart from yesterday's game, this team has had fewer penalties than any team I can remember. We aren't getting personal fouls. We aren't having to burn timeouts over player confusion---for the most part anyway. What other ways do you judge discipline?

It's asking a lot to expect a young inexperienced team to pull an upset over any of those three you mentioned. A first year coach with inferior talent is expected to out-coach Spurrier or Richt with Dooley's players? I mean, it's not impossible, but that's a pretty tall task you've put on our coach and our team in order to win your approval.

So you're ready to cash in your chips because UT had a few penalties? Here's the thing, if you're really disappointed with this season so far, it's your own fault.

6-6 is/was a realistic expectation. My question was, do you feel better about this team after the WKU game or the USA game?

Knowing what I know now, the USA game. Here's why:

I felt good about beating WKU, but I was unsure how the game would turn out without getting the ball placed in our laps over and over as we did.

USA beat WKU fairly easy, this made me uneasy about yesterday's game.

We got up big on USA yesterday, and honestly I feel like we kind of let our guard down. They got back in the game, and WE STILL WON.

I honestly don't see that happening last year. I think mentally, we would have been extremely fragile, and would have snatched defeat from the jaws of victory.

Yesterday was ugly, but we found a way.

Championship teams find a way, whether it be getting lucky or creating your own luck. We lack championship talent (or anything close), but I'm confident that our players will have the right mental attributes to win, as we obtain championship caliber players in the next few years.

The foundation and mentality of success is being built. Losing is a sickness that is being corrected. Lack of skill and depth is a reality that can't be fixed right now. I'd love to sign a couple of free agents, but that's not the game we're playing.

Make do with what you have, suck it up, and cheer the hell out of your team.

I didn't put it on the team and coach. Go back and look at the threads, tweets, etc.

Discipline is more than not jumping off-sides. There isn't the fire in the team that Butch seems to emit. I know that isn't discipline, per se, but it all ties together.

On Worley's int. in the endzone the announcer said that Howard needed to protect his QB and fight for the ball. Those little things.

Did you see Saban jump the entire O's Sh&t before halftime last night? His team was up, shutting Ole Miss out, and he's going ape bananas on his O. Why? He didn't like the execution of his team.

Butch got fired up as well, yesterday...which I was thrilled to see. It just seems we're moving at the speed of poured honey when every team around us is flying by.

Thank you for your answer and explanation...and I don't totally disagree with you.

I think too much gets played about last year's team losing that game but that's ok.

I hope UT plays well on Sat. They have to get some production out the QB position. Otherwise it will be a long day.

I agree with you. It is impossible to know whether last year's team would have won or not. But my gut was telling me on Saturday, we were going to blow it. I was pleasantly surprised.

Saturday will likely be a long day. Vegas must know something I don't.

Thanks for initiating some good conversation and making some good points. This is why I joined the board.

I don't know where you get there is no fire...

This team last year would have laid down and died, D E A D on Florida after three turnovers in the first half.

But they still kept fighting against a top 5 defense and pulled to within 14 with a fraction of the talent of last years offensive production.

To me, that shows there is the start of a no quit attitude in this team. They don't have swagger just yet, but they are being taught that it isn't over until it's over. And in time, with a couple of big wins over opponents we aren't supposed to win, the swagger will start to return. Won't happen overnight, but as soon as they see they can and do win over a ranked opponent, I believe you'll see a drastic upshift in the temp of this team. All they need is that one little spark to get it going and to prove to themselves more than to any of us out here.

Losing confidence in yourself and your team is easy to do. Getting it back is one of the hardest tasks to ever accomplish. But the building blocks (bricks if you will) are being worked on and discipline is a part of it. Along with desire, motivation and hard work. We're already stronger than years past and continuing to improve.

I consider this game yesterday a bump on the road to recovery and not indicitive of the team as a whole. They needed a reality check from a supposedly inferior foe and they got it yesterday. I wasn't impressed with the way they telephoned in the second half, but managed to get yet another in the W column. And as stated in so many other threads, we're right where we are supposed to be at this point in the season.

People knew it was a down year before the season but it's like going through a sewer in a glass bottom boat. It's much worse when you see it .

We were here, people didn't want to hear it. Even when Butch and staff tried to temper expectations, people said they were just trying to motivate. No, they had seen the team and knew this year would be an f'n struggle at times. People jumped any media person that predicted a record of 6-6 or worse.

If you expected the team to be better than they are right now, you were either delusional or weren't paying attention to reality.
