You have to give the current guy his shot. It's what happens when you make that commitment. Just made a bunch of rushed ho hum hires, while everyone around us made good enough hires to jump us in the SEC pecking order. Coaches know there is some sort of internal power struggle here that makes it unattractive to guys with a name and rep. There are other reasons too but no need to get into it. It is and always has been a deal where if you're going to play in the same sandbox then you have to get your hands dirty. Tennessee seems too want to be Harvard Monday thru Friday and Bama on Saturdays. Just doesn't work that way.

How do you move on from a coach for cheating (that's the reason used for firing Pruitt) to hire another coach that was recently fired for cheating? National (and local) media would have a field day with that one. So would the NCAA.

I am so sick of hearing about this moral high ground crap. TN has been cheating for decades. Along with every other major college football program. Everybody knows it.

Ok what would the NCAA have done? Please explain how hiring Freeze would have us under anything more than what Pruitt has us under. And let’s be honest. If Pruitt won 6 games last year, would ANY of his cheating EVER seen the light of day? No.

Freeze should’ve gotten jail time for what he did to that poor girl when he was at Briarcrest. I would’ve boycotted the program if he had been hired.

Oh yeah, no one cares. They’re too busy praising Matt Corral and the dynamite offense.

That moral high ground thing in sports in more hindering than the opposite.

Ifs and buts..... The fact is that he was fired and the violation accusations were made very public by the University. It's all optics man. You hire Freeze and it's not some redemption story. They didn't pay Pruitt because they said they care so much about running a clean program, but hire another proven cheater to replace him? If you can't see sh!t show surrounding that potential situation, then I don't know what to tell you.

if Manning had been a successful coach and just won a National Championship somewhere, then came to Tennessee say this year

Then went 4-7, 5-5, then 4-2…..you think he would have been forced out? (Saying Manning as he is the “Majors” of nowadays)

I think people “think” Majors early record is worse than it really was.

He had 2 losing seasos (out of his first 11), but was .500 at year 2, 7-5 with a bowl appearance in year 3, 8-4 by year 5 with a bowl win.

that year 4 might get your everyday John Doe…….but not your championship winning and hometown hero.

Just my opinion
