Was the law not enforced? There was an arrest. Charges will be filed. Considering there's video I have little doubt there will be a conviction and punishment. The gun itself was not guilty, but the man wielding it was.

Ev, the U.S. has lost wars to guys living on a daily handful of rice wearing tire treads for shoes. The Soviet engagement in Afghanistan was already at a stalemate and they had decided to withdraw months before U.S. aid.

The framers understood warfare history quite well. It is not necessary for the populace to have equivalent armament; it is a numbers game. Including reserves, the military is about 2M members; probably at least 40% of the population have weapons and there are likely 300M> weapons in circulation. There is a perpetuating, large amount of military expertise within the general population, even if no military defected which would not be the case. The framers gauged that such destruction necessary would not only cause massive defection in the military and civilian police, but that even a large number of loyalists would join a revolt when their family and friends end up as red mush.

In a bloody conflict that'd make the Civil War look like an ice cream social, I see no path for such a government to win.
