Who are the options at CB?

I think Bmoore could see some time there if riyad or coleman struggles - be a nice way to get brandolph and mcneil on the field at safety at the same time

if Bmoore lines up at CB we will be losing alot of football games this year . he is to slow to play safety let alone play CB:loco::loco:

7 Michael Williams 5-11/171
19 Tyler Coombes 6-0/191
21 David Priddy 5-10/170
21 Riyahd Jones 6-0/179
22 Malik Foreman 5-10/177
23 Cameron Sutton 6-1/180
26 Geraldo Orta 6-0/176
27 Justin Coleman 5-10/184
28 Lemond Johnson 6-1/188
29 Devaun Swafford 5-11/184
30 Max Arnold 5-11/188
31 Tino Thomas 6-0/206
35 JaRon Toney 5-10/184
36 Naz Oliver 5-10/186

Now, we can see who's available. I think I cleared out the safeties (UTsports dot com just lists as DB), so these should be the corners. Given that.....nobody seems to be mentioning Lemond Johnson as a viable option. I seem to remember him being kinda heavily recruited, but then again, I thought he was a JUCO guy. Cam Sutton's gonna be a player (yeah, I know he's a FR), Toney's seen game action, but if he's on the field, it's an indictment of Foreman, Sutton, and Johnson. Against AP, this is how I see it working out.

CB1: Jones

CB2: Coleman
CB3 (slot): Sutton or Johnson

No help for one thing. Most coaches dislike putting CB's in man without help over the top. Very, VERY few corners can make that work.

Failure to produce a pass rush without blitzing for another.

Guys persistently out of position because of an overly complicated and poorly taught scheme for another. Confusion on the DL and at LB was a HUGE part of it.

Most teams play some man to man but the amount varies greatly by scheme, philosophy, and player talent.

ANY team including those with elite CB's that puts them on an island constantly will give up big plays vs good passing teams.

If memory serves, we hardly ever played man under Chavis. It takes a stone-cold first-class athlete to play man and we often just didn't have the personnel. Remember the "bend but don't break" strategy we had in those days? Our DBs would line up WAY off the line and play zone quite a bit. We produced some great defenses under Chavis (I would take them right now) but we also got burned quite a bit giving up the short routes. What was that called? The feared Mustang package?

Chavis is working out great for LSU. Maybe they have better athletes than Tenn had in the 90s? I dunno, but the Mustang package is doing a great job of shutting down spread offenses. (LSU vs Oregon, LSU vs A&M)

I think you’re greatly underestimating the value of experience here.
